  1. They are a tiny minority. I very much doubt that they could even encourage 150,000 people (or approx. 1% of people who voted for just Move Forward) to "rise and fight". And even such a number of demonstrators (if they could get 150,000 at a time) would easily be dealt with by the military...
  2. True. Also, some Russian tourists don't speak English. So, where are the Thai staff at nail salons, etc., who are fluent in Russian (or English, or any other foreign language) and can cater to these market segments? Same applies to tour guides, hotel and restaurant staff, taxi drivers, sales staff, etc., etc. More lost income for Thailand, but never mind, or to quote staff at Central that cost their employer business, as they couldn't communicate with Singaporean customers, but where asked why they couldn't speak English, answering: "No need..." - If I visit a bank, and the only staff there that understands and speaks English is the security guard from Myanmar, I know that they are not prepared for all the tourists.
  3. You'd think that Move Forward is not a one-man show. Typically, if their candidate for PM is disqualified for whatever reason, there should be an alternative candidate (elected by the party). That's how it would play out in most democratic countries...
  4. Easy... Pheu Thai takes over, later Thaksin does, early 2000s all over again...
  5. Maybe the Russians could speak better English. Another example, went to Tops (which does have foreign customers), asked staff #1 where I can find mashed potatoes, answer: "No English" and she just walked away... I asked staff #2. Puzzled face. She asked staff #3, who suggested to me potato chips... (Both didn't understand any English either.) - My point is that business done by knowledgable and English-speaking staff is better than no tourism income, and tourists returning home telling everyone: "Gee, we couldn't even find a good salon and nail service in Thailand. Let's try Bali or ****** instead next time..."
  6. I bet, but maybe (some) Thai customers do. Not sure what they buy, but maybe the other products are just 'leftovers' from the last delivery.
  7. One reason might be higher producer prices that shop management thinks may deter (most) customers from buying such goods.
  8. That happens when entertainment venues are forced to close early, and the night-loving Thai youngsters are bored in the wee hours...
  9. I personally don't use them, but I noticed staff shortages in other industries, particularly after the pandemic.
  10. I'm sure they could communicate more with their customers than just: "Hello you...", and "How much you give me?" I bet Thais could do this kind of work at a lower price, provided that there are enough these days willing to do it at all.
  11. So, that's the best they've got? Then they probably deserve whatever government they get next.
  12. Nice! That will distract the masses from what's going on in politics for a while - bread rice and circuses lottery gimmicks...
  13. Not the smartest cookie in the jar, amassing 5 million baht debt for a stranger.
  14. The real criminals will be living under a false identity here, we all know brown envelopes can help smooth the passage. A few weeks ago it was the Chinese who bought the Police out to set up illegal gambling in Thailand. Exactly. Criminals will always find ways, or have the money to stay nonetheless. But some of the bonafide retirees may decide that Thailand isn't worth the hassle anymore.
  15. Some people might not be able to get this in Thailand, so they would have to travel back home just for such a requirement.
  16. Probably all will have to attend a full-body exam to determine whether they have tattoos, and how many, and all applicants will have to prove that they don't own a Harley Davidson... Just a Big Joke, for now, but who knows.
  17. Plus, I can maybe find reviews in English, or, otherwise, paste and copy them into Google Translate. The only English words one can get out of (incompetent and useless) staff at shops are: "No English..."
  18. That's because people at the TAT truly believe not only that tourists learn Thai before travelling here, but also that they come here to visit temples, and for spa treatments...
  19. Only if many people joined. Not likely to happen in Thailand.
  20. That's just one reason why I wouldn't do it (besides heights dizziness), cause all those people in front and behind me would add extra stress to this.
  21. I never cared much about Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc. I used to follow forums on Facebook, but found FB more and more boring, not to mention all those angry posts of people who think they have a monopoly on 'truth'... Nowadays I mostly stick to news websites, this forum, other Thailand-related websites, etc., as well as to YouTube where I watch mostly history documentaries, talk shows, and old TV series. Sometimes I download TV shows via torrenting (recently "The Mandalorian", "TWD Dead City", and "Friends"). I rarely buy things online these days, unlike at the height of the pandemic when I often bought stuff, and I find online dating to be more and more meaningless and a waste of time.
  22. Yes, exactly my guess too. Most probably just a sales pitch, stating outdated rules. But then again, who knows...
