Caveat Emptor.

I have a simple rule. If its worth to me what is asked, I will pay. If not, then I walk away.
Applies to clothes, shoes, meals and places that charge entrance fees.

^^
I think that is the main point here. Whatever the national crime stats, foreigners here are generally safer than in their own country despite any lawlessness that might surround us - perceived or real.

Doubt if you need a prescription for Counterpain anyway ....

Pasang Pesar's trade used to be Malaysian Chinese rather than Malays but the point is taken.

Comparing Pattaya with a major city is just plain ridiculous it's a tin pot town against LA, London, Sydney....
I think the comparisons were by country - UK, Australia etc. versus Thailand as a whole.
-
Yes, but from the world population review ...
"The last official national census was carried out in Thailand back in 2010 and the country’s official population was declared at 65,479,453. Current estimates show a small increase and the figures with regards to the Thailand population of 2012 suggest that there are around 67 million people living here, making it the 19th most populous country on the planet."

According to BBC programmes, 7,000 violent crimes occur in the UK each year, 150,000 vehicles are stolen each year and London is Europe's most crime ridden city. I know where I prefer to live. Violence against non-Thais here is proportionately very low indeed even if we might be targets for profiteering etc.

The simple answer is that they come from somewhere else. As does most of the population here.

Officially, a 6 months sentence and/or a 10,000 baht fine can apply to sellers of alcohol during the designated ban days/hours so it really isn't worth the risk for shop/bar owners in my opinion.

Yes, in four years in this house, I seldom have had all of the essentials (water, electricity, phone, internet) working well simultaneously.
At present only two out of those four .....

Connected to City water which normally fills my own 1,000 litre tank.

I live in an estate directly opposite Mabprachan reservoir which is as full as it gets but we have no water supply.
Anyone around this area having this same problem ?

Some solar powered garden lights - 214 baht each at Home Pro.

Personal protection is unlikely to be enough reason on its own for a permit to own a gun regardless of where you keep it.
Apart from that, the laws and practice for cases where excessive force is used against any home invader are very vague and there is absolutely no guarantee that use of a gun even in your own home is acceptable legally should a "victim" or his family sue you. I would consult a good lawyer before aproaching police.

I would join a gun club, and use their guns.
That is the safest and most sensible option if you like guns.
Having one at home is fraught with many complications like misuse, theft and other things.

The reality is that even well trained, any foreign volunteers have few rights but many liabilities when offering first aid or help to anyone here. If someone they helped has real or perceived complications that they claim resulted from any original aid from the one who helped it can get very complicated legally. I believe there is one - at least - such volunteer who has the authority given by the Police division he works with but everyone else needs specific orders to assist from a Thai officer to be legally covered. That is my understanding of things anyway.

The driving habits are one thing, but what gets me most is those expats whose mother tongue is English but speak to me (also English) in broken English as if I am a non-English speaker or a Thai bar girl ....
.... "He very "mao" last night. Not go home." and worse.

I'm sure it does no good for many here to see the obvious truth printed above in the "Update".
Bad jokes or skepticism seem to rule instead of common sense.
Pity.
-
Indeed. Sensationalist.
They are obviously at the police station where they surely would not be gambling and given their vests (not worn inside) they have come from somewhere else and are displaying stuff found.
-
People, please.
The thread title had it right.
The pic appears to show gambling but it does not actually show that.
Sensationalism only.

That is INCREDIBLE that the police responded that fast, to actually be called while the guy was at the ATM and get their while he was still at the ATM.
Really, incredible.
Station police don't often leave their posts but they can and do radio for the nearest policeman.
Luckily one was very nearby apparently - so a good result.

That first sentence threw me .... "... supplying women to foreigners for sex on Tuesday night."
Obviously not a full week's work then.

This is what happens when you tell that drummer on an electronic kit with trigger delay that he is not synced to your bass output ....

He and his shop are old time and love what they do and you could not find nicer guys to deal with.
I had a buddy come all the way from Shanghai to use him.
