    Hilux Vigo

must admit I keep looking at those things when I'm out cycling and think 'camper', I could sleep in one pretty much full time then I don't even need accomodation lol

You can buy second hand cars for next to nothing in Japan, just such a shame it's virtually impossible to then import em into Thailand......might look at shipping one to France.......what do I look out for going wrong? cheers

The melting-ice coolers do work, but in reality, they only produce a stream of cooled air for a relatively short time.

ok, I did a test overnight and slept without the aircon from 11pm, it was fine

I'll post this here for future reference, I came across the inspiration for this project a few years ago and actually have a never used DPS5020 but it's in a different country

Give us an idea of just what you expect to be running and we can come up with some sensible suggestions.

Do you want to be truly off-grid or will there be grid backup available for those dull days?

actually I've just had a 'recollection' lol.......I remember those 'DIY aircon' using a 'foam box' full of ice and a hole in the top with a fan......

i know I'm sounding like a tramp but I haven't even found anywhere to live yet........I'm really interested in living a simple off-grid life....

I just bumped into a guy on a bike ride this morning and he was convincing me I don't need a car........just look at those 9-10baht bags of ice you can buy too.....cheaper in bulk surely? I've seen guys delivering them on motorbikes!!! ????

118k Baht including transport to Bangkok Port. There will be a further VAT bill to come but, after contacting customs, they look like zero duty payable.

cheers, how many watt/hours or whatever they call it are you hoping to get?

i'm trying to calculate how many I need to run say 250watt draw overnight, so say 12 hours which means I need 3kWh......ooh that sounds like a lot......maybe if I got my overnight usage down to 1kWh say, so 50% battery discharge I can get away with 2kw of batteries?

First of all 2 panels is not a lot.

what is the BTU of your aircon? And is it an inverter?

what is the usage of your fridge during the night?

Maybe buy a power monitor to check the usage of the fridge and then you can start to estimate your battery setup.

Wont you run anything else of these batteries? Lights etc etc

hi, thanks for input......as I'm 'exploring' I'm just between places on airbnb and agoda at the moment so haven't even decided on a 'semi-permanent' place even

i'm just thinking 'small place', small aircon, small fridge (i'm doing OMAD, cycle every day and generally live off Thai street food)........lights are a non-issue to me, as the circa 8watt bulbs don't take any power and I can buy LEDs....and I don't even like hot showers anymore!!!

    cheers!

  6. ok I''m over here 'exploring on my bike' lol

let's say I wanted to live 'off grid' with my collection of bikes including an ebike or 2....

if I got say 2 x 340w* panels, what sort of battery setup would i need to power an aircon unit and small fridge overnight? And a recommended MPPT controller?

I recall i think it was @Crossy bought some amazingly cheap LifePO4 batteries from somewhere online a while ago, still deals available?

    thanks!

    *I know that's not a lot, I'm a minimalist nowadays lol

I do not want to hijack this OP discussion, but can the experts tell me if I can install a hard drive onto a 3BB router, as a network drive, and what is the password for a 3BB router if I need to change any settings?

again I would use a 'modded' Android TV box with armbian on it, it turns it into a 'small linux computer' then you can do 'anything' with them! google, hold on I'll finf it....this is the thread' *************** awesome lol https://forum.armbian.com/topic/26978-csc-armbian-for-rk3318rk3328-tv-box-boards/page/44/

You have to know that I have a Samsung tv not using android system and I can not install a vpn  app if I do not use android. The only way I think is to install the vpn on the router

I try to do it by myself but it is not my job at all and it looks a little bit difficult for me.

as a bit of FYI, I have used hacked android TV boxes to run kodi and IPTV and it generally works great cos you can install zomboided VPN on it...

I have a gorgeous looking Samsung TV in another cuntry, they spy on you, I also used a router with openvpn on it briefly and reverted back to the original cos the ISP throttled it from a rock steady 95meg link to about 60meg........you can 'bypass' some stuff by configuring your own DNS stuff ie Adguard DNS server is very good

If, for instance, the holder travels 5 months after the visa issue date, and wants to stay for more than the one month remaining on the visa validity, he can apply to do so ( in the UK, but only up to a maximum of 180 days stay in total). The cost is around 1,000 GBP for the extension application.

is that price for real? 1000 quid strikes me as a lot when you can do 180 days 'visa exempt 'with the fly in and 2 border runs. ie 30 days each time plus extensions at 1900baht a go, gives 60 days each time x3......I know it's not for the lazy but the cost is only like £133 doing it that way, yeah ok I guess depends on location but somewhere like Chaing Mai is only 60 odd miles to the border in any case, that's a nice bike ride ????

then here is a link to an article addressing the topic from The Guardian, a rag that many of you might find annoying:

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2023/apr/03/can-monk-mode-help-improve-my-productivity

understandable though, when a load of woke eejits are telling us how to live our lives and do things like stand on yer doorstep clapping for 'c u next tuesdays' at the useless health service, doncha think? do you miss england at all?

    MONK MODE

yes sounds like me, although I haven't heard that expression before.....the western world is broken with the TV and social media induced BS..

we don't need sugar and carbs.....OMAD for me.......and I might go on a long long bike ride when the weather cools a bit....

Peace out brother (or sister) monk ????

ie flew to Bkk from Germany <€300 return

use airbnb and agoda to get accomodation <€12 a night

bus to Pattaya from the East Bus terminal - 131 baht

pickin up 'loose women' Thai Friendly app (advice from an acquaintance)

getting around and keeping fit, really decent Giant bike off faceache €160

not being overweight and understanding OMAD - priceless ????

how do you know you won't wait months to get treatment through the NHS? source https://www.bma.org.uk/advice-and-support/nhs-delivery-and-workforce/pressures/nhs-backlog-data-analysis

The latest figures for February 2023 show:

    • around 7.22 million people waiting for treatment;

    • nearly 3.0 million of these patients waiting over 18 weeks;

    • around 362,500 of these patients waiting over a year for treatment – which is around 169 times the number of people waiting over a year in February 2020, before the pandemic began.

    • a median waiting time for treatment of 14.5 weeks – nearly double the pre-Covid median wait of 7.5 weeks in February 2020.
