  1. Interesting but I really can't see this as becoming commonplace in the average Thai home. As the TV is always on, game shows and poorly done rinse and repeat dramas of rich people exhibiting poor behavior take precedence, I can't imagine a TV with speakers blaring something totally incoherent being tolerated for very long by the majority in the room.

In many developed countries, the wealthy and others that can afford to do so, hire Chinese nannies so their children can become fluent in Mandarin. Most of us have grown up speaking English, not because we were schooled in it, but we grew up around it. If Thailand would drop it's elite status and racist way of thinking and allow those native speakers that consider quality of life takes precedence over money, and wish to live in the Kingdom, let them legally live here as nannies if they wish to do so. Money is not everything.

The work permit requirements are a farce and seem to pertain only to Caucasians. I went to restaurant the other night and only the owners spoke Thai, the workers were all from Burma.

Just a thought, something I've considered, but so far not even a concept.

  2. my first thought is living within one's means, the other is what defines quality of life? For me it means riding my bicycle, going to the fresh market, and hanging out with friends. that doesn't cost much at all. To the one that posted living on 120K per month is not enough, I just don't know what to say about that and not get booted off this forum.

  3. it's not really an education system at all, but more a knowledge system. The goal of the "school" system is to get students to pass a test.

There is really nothing in it that relates to education, which means actually using the knowledge gained.

If there is an interest in something, then that person will do what it takes to learn about that subject, for example why bar girls speak English better than most Thai teachers.

The kids today have a full time job, called school, it doesn't pay anything, all they hear is they are not doing well enough, and when it's all said and done, some rich kid takes their spot at the university because their parents paid for it. Not a lot of incentive, which should be the motivating factor. ermm.gif

  4. "Things have returned to normal now," he said."

"Today we look forward with hope [of making] Thailand grow further," he said.

Things have returned to normal? I guess normal is relative

Hoping Thailand grows further is probably the right thing to do if one is not going to make an attempt. to make it grow further. Grow further which way?

  5. I have an idea; make it easy to legally work here as long as one has the skills to do the job. If someone has the skills and not the piece of paper from some school showing a degree in whatever, then hire them for the skills, not the degree. Pay that that person whatever one would pay any other Thai employee, collect tax, increase the economy, get more English in the schools, diversity, contact with different types of people and all would benefit. As long as they keep the "us and them" mentality, Thailand remains a plowed field and not a diverse forest. If the Thai over 40 or 50 don't have the skills, import them, just like they do soybeans. A no beaner

  6. Those aged from 40 to 50 seen as being slow to learn, may require extra training

    MP's, Ministers, Gouvernment staff included?

Slow to learn? I'm over 50 and their isn't much I can't figure out on a computer. today's younger generation are gamers, not techs or marketers like myself. I find this kind of insulting, although considering the source more stupid than anything else. Maybe the Thai people over 40 are slow learners, would be a good idea to get all those in government over 40 out of it because as far as I can tell, they haven't learned a thing. This sounds more like planting a seed for an upcoming excuse as to why this stupid idea/campaign promise isn't going to work, just add more cartoon time to an already low alpha wave coma induced brain.

  7. My understanding that Thaksin was banned from the US. should he arrogantly show up he may be arrested by Homeland Security. that could be his plan, get arrested, by extradited to Thailand and then pardoned by his courts. On the other hand, I do believe Thaksin has a bit of a terrorist background and the power of the NDAA could backfire in his face. Somebody with his background going to the US to rally the people for his political gain could be dangerous, let's hope he goes for it. The US is pretty well known for stabbing "friends" and "businesses acquaintances" in the back.
