OP, where are you located in Thailand. That determines your best border crossing to some extent. Entering Thailand via land should not be an issue but expect to send couple of days in eg Nong Khai. Also some nonsense such as proof of accommodation and even flight out of Thailand. A minivan border run agents is your best option.

OP, your old TM6 has no relevance. If the new online TM6 commences May 1 then to enter Thailand after that you will do the online TM6.

It's not visa on arrival. It's visa exempt entry and gives a 60 day permission of stay. That can be extended by 30 days for 1900b Folk usually apply for extension week or 2 prior to stamp expiry. The 30 is added to the current permission of stay so no days "lost" by applying early

The deal breaker for me was the need to do TM47 in person after travel abroad. This is rather recent due to some brain fade idea to sync online reporting with TM30.
