I'll go to Immigration tomorrow to try to self file the TM30.  Failing that I'll be reporting the landlord.  I don't have much time either way.

Since time is issue....just file tm30 as ubonjoe outlined in person at immigration. You do this as "possessor". You will need a lease. Your identity page pp. Copy last entry stamp to los. I would also copy tm6 and reentry permit if you have one. From reports you may be fined 800baht so have it with you. File it first same visit as doing the extension.

    Good luck.

  2. If I entered on an O-A many years ago my extensions do not have to be based on retirement. Subsequently if I got married I could present for next extension and apply based on married to a Thai. Or parent of a Thai or whatever. Surely I don't need to obtain a new non O (marriage)....I just need to apply for extension satisfying the requirements??

  3. There are reports of people receiving receipt by mail. However it seems to be taking some weeks rather than days. I plan to do mine by mail as the "possessor". Mainly to avoid relying on owner of condo.

I will send the copy of identity page. Tm6. Most recent entry stamp. Lease. Prob include reentry permit as well. You cannot just send tm30 form alone.

Send by ems mail including self addressed envelope.

Personally I'm going to only do ONE. That will be my last reentry to los prior to visit to imm for my extension. Not sure what happens if my receipt has not arrived.

You would be much better with a fixed account.

    Around 12,000 a year.

Yes. With recent changes to requirements I recently opened FD ac at Kasikorn. Not brilliant interest @ 1.55% but better than nothing. Recently back au and needed to place some cash quickly. Decided on FD at 2.65% which was OK given au has extremely low cash rate now. Only mention this to demonstrate that "money in bank" method bit of pain now. Previously like many I just ran the 800k down for living expenses after extension granted. Not any more. Pain in butt

Thanks for valuable feedback - much appreciated. Now have a much better route aligned going forward.

Just one added note. If you decide to bring your money in cash with you, then you will need to have some proof it came from overseas. I cannot advise on method of proof as I did not do a "conversion" to non o inside Thailand. I obtained non o in Vientiane. In that case there is no need to show where money came from. You do not (as yet have bank a/c so wiring it here has some small jumps. People will suggest transferwise or OFX etc, however the best way (apart from security) is to bring the cash and exchange at superrich (green). There is no limit on bringing foreign currency into Thailand however amounts over 20kusd must be declared. A member recently informed me that this has been reduced to 15k. So check that out. Also note if landing somewhere (connecting) and need to clear customs then need check out that limit also. I stuffed up once coming home to bkk and rather than direct I spent few days in Saigon. I had about 30k USD and realized on plane that Vietnam has limit 5k.

Happened to me but was sent back to Laos and they cancelled my exit stamp.

I didn't express it well. I recall your thread. Think you went back to Vientiane and entered via border with your intact valid TV. In any event, the guy I was typing about was refused entry to Thai and again to Vietnam.

Guess you needed another Laos visa on arrival ?

@dtag Out of curiosity, if you don't mind, how did Cambodian immigration handle your return after you had been denied entry to Thailand? Did they cancel your exit stamp, or did you need to buy a new visa on arrival and got a fresh entry stamp? Any "extra payment" for letting you back in under those circumstances?

Very good question. Some time back a UK guy had a thread. He was obtaining setv back to back. Obtained last one Saigon. Denied entry DM. Flown back to Saigon. Refused entry even though UK are visa exempt Vietnam. Then sent to UK.

They do not cancel exit stamp.

Why not look around and find a country that will just let you go there and do what you want in the way of volunteering.

    Just sayin'

Your thinking its about volunteering? The OP was initially asking about 2 weeks. What's that about. Then in a reply stated it could be a month. Has not put lot of input into thread since earlier.

Maybe I'm harsh but sounds like a nice blog opportunity and feel good gig.

Could you explain a little more about detail?

1.What documents do you enclose in the envelope?

    -passport copy? which page?

-No need to enclose envelop self-addressed with stamp like 90 days report by mail?

2.How do you get reply, by mail or anything else?

      Because you need evidence, right?

3.How do they know it was sent within 24 hours?

    Thank you.

Firstly I have done it ONCE 7 yrs back. CW never required it.

So from threads I've read. Your identity page. Your last tm6. Your last entry stamp. I will also include reentry permit. Lease.

You enclose self addressed stamped envelope.

In my case addressed to cw bkk. Same address for 90 day report except you start with TM30 office... on address.

Your reply will be by mail but reports taking few weeks.

They know about 24 hour because you post with tracking. That shows when posted.

PS...I fly out of los every couple of weeks. I only intend to post tm30 on last trip away from 'home address' just before my next extension cw.

Worst case I get fined 800baht. Getting bit over Thai crap.

That is standard. It's pretty much the only legal reason for denying entry when they suspect you are not a genuine tourist.

Sent from my SM-G930F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Exactly.,... So many threads with ...."but I had 20kbaht on me...."

The op could of had 20k USD on him. Would not make scrap of difference.

Brew has pointed to that fact.

If this is even a little bit true, can the moderators construct a template/Pinned Topic with all of the Immigration offices on the vertical axis, and their requirements upon a return from international and domestic overnight travel on the horizontal axis ?

    It is very true.

As for template/pinned topic...,it all depends on imm office. CW never required in my last several yrs here, but requiring now.

Its probably best just to take note of how the imm office your report to is dealing with tm30. Many still not enforcing it. Think Jomtien is one example

    Hi DrJack54,

Thanks for your reply - Sorry for the long post.

Your comments clear up a few things -

Since I have no lease to show - Who issue the 'Certificate of Residence' ?  Can that be done on the basis of the TM30 + the invitation letter from the owner of the property?  Alternatively just make up a rental agreement (I have downloaded 2 that are freely available on the net) - Then have the 'Rental agreement' stamped at immigration.  Past stay have been relatively short due to work requirement - Hence limited time to try and open a bank account - which on a visa exempt is not easy (I have been given a possible BB to try on my next visit).

If I understand the current practice correctly

Both the Visa Exempt and the Tourist Visa entry can be converted to non o based on retirement - To make that application - I need to show 800K in the bank - Then 90 days later I apply for a 12 month extension (Intention is not touching the 800K after it was deposited)

    A) Would I be correct when I say that : The Visa Exempt allow 30 days - The tourist Visa will allow 60 days.

    B) You mention that not able to extend/convert to non o immediately - So would one or two weeks before expiry (30 days or 60 days) be enough time to apply?

If my understanding is correct regarding A) and B)  - Then enter on a Tourist visa would give me a bit more time to sort out the - Proof of residence and the bank account - which I would need to have in order to make the 'conversion'.

    Does that make sense ?

Yes makes sense. When I stated you cannot extend straight away, I was referring to visa exempt stamp. That gives you 30 days and can be extended by 30 at immigration. Do that shortly before until date on your entry stamp.

That would give you almost 2 months to organize your bank ac etc. You would then do "conversion" to non 0. That would give you 90 days. Your money seasoned 2 months. You would then apply for 12 month "permission of stay based on retirement". You are not extending your visa.  done then every 12 months Prince and repeat

Your certificate of residence available from imm or embassy. (Unless your au)

  13. Big post to digest. First of all you can enter los visa exempt (you cannot extend straight away) or enter on tourist visa. These can be "converted" at immigration to a non o imm based on retirement. That will have a 90 day until date. In the last 30/45 days you apply for your 12 month permission of stay. Early on you need open bank ac and 2 months prior going to imm for your extension.

Another option is to obtain non o outside of los. As you point out KL not suit you however places like Vientiane may. I did it outside of Thai because was difficult for me to show money came from outside Thai (needed if converting to non o ). No need to show where money came from obtaining non o outside of los.

You deal with the imm office in the province you reside.

Regarding your living arrangement. You will find for bank ac you need a lease or certificate of residence.

I came to los with au equivalent to 800k baht. Best method hence I needed non o from consulate outside of los

You are correct LomSak27 I will check with the place and also the Embassy.

DrJack54 we don´t know yet the time that will be just saying 2 weeks as example but it could be 1 month or more.

Fair enough but I don't imagine its as flexible as your thinking. I personally have zip knowledge re volunteering. Most visas for example, non o based on marriage cease as soon as your not living together. The replies to your OP from the experts will be useful as this question often comes up. My only experience seeing volunteers first hand was visit to Soi dog salvation in Phuket. That was not an option for couple of weeks it had to be very organized beforehand.

    Good luck with your efforts.
