20k thb reality is nothing, it's less then a weeks work!!! (In relation to Australian median income), especially for peace of mind, myself being on back to back metv always carry 20k thb or equivalent, never been asked to show though, this being immigration at bkk and cnx,

You are sooooo on the money (excuse the pun). Geezus more often than not I have 20k on me and I live in los. These threads are so much rubbish. As I have retirement extension most likely will never be asked for the 20k.

If I was on VE or SETV...I would for sure have 20k on me.

As many others have posted on endless threads. Its not about the 20k. Its more about how many "tourist visas" etc you have been living in los. Now along come the nutters saying there is no laws.

    Ha...that's seriously funny/stupid

  2. No need to report. Also your extension will just expire. Eventually when back in couple of years you apply for new non-o based on retirement and repeat the process you did prior. As for  visits back depending on length of stay your could come visa exempt or setv. When you come back "for good" you could obtain non o-a if that suited you. Obtained in Australia.

  3. This whole thread is just crap. The op stated "where move to now"

What load of rubbish. The letter gig has not even panned out yet. As for next extension can use agent. I posted in reply 3. As for future he can use agent (20k).

All the advice about relocate to Philippines or Vietnam etc is just bs. He can't even afford other methods of extensions in Los and you suggest to this old poor fella change country. Read between lines of op. Where next! Is this a wind up?

    Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible now to get a Multiple Entry Non imm O (marriage) from Phnom Penh?

I saw on the embassy website that it seems possible: http://www.thaiembassy.org/phnompenh/en/services/1435/21866-Non-Immigrant--O-(THAI-SPOUSE).html

But also saw a fairly recent thread (2017) where Ubonjoe says it's a no go:

Anyone know what the current situation is and/or why it was or is considered a no go for a multiple entry?

I will have the 400k to show in a Thai bank if needed and fancy a trip to Phnom Penh over Laos but don't fancy going if they don't issue them.

I would consider HCMC or Bali too so if anyone has any info about those two embassies for getting a multi entry visa (non o - marriage) that would also be useful.

    Thanks in advance

I'm sorry I can't advise definitely. However I have heard many times re Phnom Penh that an agent is highly recommended. If your already in pp then that might be best option.

As for members correcting me. I already stated, I have not personally applied. Just relating second hand info. As for Saigon if your visa exempt, that's a great chill place. Also consulate good. But again I only ever obtained tourist visa there. Ubonjoe will give definitive advice

  5. Hells bells its not about "funds or means of support," that's just a reason to reject as per OP.

Member this thread is about op.

He could of had a zillion baht on person. Irrelevant. The io right or wrong concluded he was not a "genuine tourist"

Yes don't jump in and ask for a meaning or definition. He didn't get in. Full stop. Very lucky to get back home country. Stop complain. Accept or FO

It is true that I am a "rule of law" kind of guy - I don't break them.  Few would have gone to the trouble I did to stay here with my Thai wife legally (not paying an agent - a cheaper option overall - when I encountered corrupt IOs).

Fortunately there are only a few "problem" points of entry that don't follow the laws.  All the other points of entry are fine.  Chang Mai airport may be OK, given no bad reports from there - but probably not a good idea to fly-in on a fresh rejected-entry, due to not being able to just walk back to the other country if there is a problem.  Per reports here, visitors with the OP's situation have entered by land without issue many times, so best to do what is tried and tested.

I have entered from Penang a few times: Penang -> Train -> Enter Thailand -> Yat Yai flight to Bangkok.  It is much less stressful than flying into Mogadishu Bangkok airports, with who knows what arbitrary and lawless surprises waiting, based on the literal-whims of the folks running things there.

But you are correct about the OP not being welcome in Malaysia, due to having an Israeli passport, so will need to enter from Vientiane or another option.  At least he has embassy personnel who care about his well-being - unlike most of us, who would get a list of lawyers and maybe a courtesy phone-call, at best.

You serious or delusional. You LIVE in Thai in some way out village. Do your in outs that you have learnt over the years. Your advice ( in most cases including the op) means ZIP.

Address cases such as the op rather than numerous posts about "oh TI and io are so unfair. Geezus reminds me of Australian cricket teams complaining about Indian pitches. As we say in au. Go hard or go home. Stop complain about Thai " non rules" for under 50. It very boring. In every topic you post is same chip on shoulder.

  7.

And 20 000 Baht in cash  would have been sufficient to prove that ?

Geezus don't members get it. We all talk about suspicion of working. No.

The reason under 50 want live here ongoing is life style or fell in love or whatever. Here is a message Thai are not looking for that. Maybe in future the retired xpats in same basket. The "chip on shoulder guy" will be along soon. Banging on about the money xpats contribute. Rubbish. Cost benefit analysis...get short term tourists into Thai. India ramping up in future years and of course continued Chinese. Thai don't really want all the failures from him country (most are) coming to live in los on visas that were not designed for that.

  8.

Each separate visa and extension have conditions to meet, consistent with their stay-length, as determined by the MFA (visa) and Immigration (extension).

I have come to conclusion you just bang on thread after thread about " there are no written laws". In my extreme post of stating staying in los basically continuously is OK.

So would someone be admitted with my silly plan in my post. Answer NO. Then you give such convoluted ways of entering los. The op is is flying from distant country and your plan is fly to country x in Asia, get bus to this or that border crossing. I lost you somewhere between kl (which he can't enter and the train trip to thai. Then domestic flight. Ha....is that a joke

Thanx for clarification, I am going for my first Retirement Visa on this next trip back 'home'.......in any event, I never have less than 2 mill in my accounts, and a steady monthly deposit in another back acct.  We shall see, I am not married to a Thai, just like living in Thailand.

Where is "back home" You might like to obtain a non o-a. That's a nice visa as includes multiple entries. Great if you want travel around Asia etc. Sounds like your moving here. Best thing I ever done. Cheers

  10.

Actually 12.2 makes it quite clear that this is about the finances following the entry to Thailand. So for this paragraph it doesn't matter what you did the last few years, and i'm quite sure that your personal interpretation of it is wrong.

You assume that the 20k THB requirement is for section 12.9. How do you know this? It is very well possible that these 20k are also the required amount to satifsy 12.2

Did anybody ever see the original notice regarding the 20k THB requirement? I would be interested in the original wording.

Sadly i was unable to find it on Google, i found a section on the russion embassy website which says that this was a notification of the ministry of interior from 8th may 2000, but i was unable to find the original.

How about you start from the FACT that a tourist can't stay more than 90 days, so a tourist can't stay long term? (With some exceptions)

Why should a tourist visa not be the appropriate visa for somebody who makes several 90 day trips per year in Thailand?

Several 3 month "visits" in a year?Or perhaps you mean 4 three month visits per year.

Umm why not call it one, 1 year visit.

  11.

That is the way to do it, show you have varied incomes and always at least  800K when needed for an extension........I think they prefer to see activity.

Umm, think we are on different page. The 800k deposit in Thai bank for min 3 months, has nothing to do with activity. They want to see activity on day of extension. Deposit  ie 100baht. Think your referring to "income method". They don't need to see " varied incomes"

I had it done once at the airport as soon as I passed the passport section, it was tucked away in a little corner and the guy doing it wasn't a happy chappy.

Whilst I don't enjoy rude people although no matter their reason, I make it a day out when I go to my local immigration which is an hours drive up country while enjoying the drive and taking in the views.

The guys do it within 5 minutes with a smile, then I go to lunch with the Mrs, the lastminute.com approach thing I don't like, i.e. what if I lost the photos or this or that, at least doing it beforehand, the slip is in my passport with me ready for inspection.

    But each to their own.

The OP clearly stated he is obtaining reentry permit in bkk. That means choice between horrible trip to CW and possible miss being served befor lunch break hour closure. At both bkk airports its an absolute breeze. Download tm8 (double sided) attach pic. Photocopy of detail page last extension stamp, departure card. Drop into office as your leaving. Easy peasy. 5 minutes. Did my 12 month extension couple of weeks ago. Didn't even bother getting in another que at CW. Obtained permit at don mueang. Under 5 mins.

  13.

I have always put funds in my account 3 months before the extension is due, i.e. funds to equal 12 x my monthly budget and make sure I have enough to meet the criteria come application day, that said, it's the simplest way to do things for me and if I require extra $'s I just use Transferwise and it's in my account the next day or 2 at the most.

The embassies must be spewing because I heard that they charged up to 3,000 baht per stat dec depending on the embassy, now times that by so many xpats and they were laughing all the way to the bank, not now and they will obviously have to make up for that loss by upping charges for other things now the Thai's won't accept the stat decs, because the embassies cannot verify what the person in the application is stating is true, suffice to say this is probably why they don't have stat decs or JP's in Thailand, only Notary's and they charge upwards of 1,500 per document, funny thing is, the Notary is usually a lawyer and the Haig convention doesn't recognise them for signing legal documents under that convention, although some banks, and other organisations around the world wouldn't know the difference and accept the Notary's signature, stamp etc etc, I found this out when I had to get a document certified, suffice to say, fortunately I have a mate back in Oz who is a JP who has know me for over a decade and certified the document that I required via email, not the way to really do it, but hey when you got to take short cuts, you got to take short cuts oi.

This brings back sad/funny memory re JP. Prior to my path down non o (obtained in Vientiane), I was in au and applied for A-O. Had my docs certified by JP. It was rejected (they refunded application fee). I rang Canberra embassy and final got up the food chain to nice lady.

When I explained that the website allowed for JP certification, she replied " yes but some io not like accept JP". I love Thai crap. Just smile and I accepted.

  14. Think as usual the thread after x pages has little to do with the OP.

I posted "use an agent" about post #3. Prob about 20k, maybe less. As a side idea I thought..umm I might lend the op 800k for 3 months. I thought (if I knew him) I could accept 10%. Ha...it amounts to 20k cost to him. So plan A is the one, for op situation if the embassy letter pans out sadly. Personally I think its just a glitch.
