Maybe I won't, but I swear, some guy already made a post that he was told to open a Thai bank account - informed by an IO,

(unknown Immigration Office) they will not accept an income affidavits and will only accept a Thai bank statement as proof of income.

Either way, I don't care.  Going to U.S. Embassy is an inconvenience, but enjoyable for the other stuff..

If I have to open a Thai bank account, which is a minor inconvenience, so be it.

I would prefer just to provide either my U.S. bank statements: letter to prove that I receive a pension; or tax form.

    Last paragraph won't happen.

  2. The income letter, affidavit, income verification, stat DEC, ....whatever you want to call it, is a nonesence.

Most posts here and other treads about PENSIONS. Many many folk live here on income streams, as most posts from members have mentioned. I could post say au bank a/c statement showing rental incomes of $1500 au a week, backed up with agents statements. Can the au embassy check that? State with certainty that that is my income. What if my overdrafts require weekly repayments of $2000 aud. Or perhaps I own them outright (which I do) blah blah. How can some clerk in au or any embassy truely attest to that claim. Not to mention all other forms of income someone may have.

I bring cash each time and never asked for how the money is deposited.

Think you might mean, where money came from, but in any event your correct. I have on few ocassions deposited 1mill baht into Thai bank. Money I physically carried in from AU. When doing extension, I have always taken with me the withdrawal receipts from my au bank in case they asked where the money came from. Never been asked where the money came from.

Problem with taking the #52 bus to CW is that while some do stop near the front gate, some stay on the flyover and don't stop until almost one km past CW.

Never figured out how to differentiate between them.

So true. Only once has that happened to me. I then needed a motorbike taxi that continues away from immigration and sort of goes around in BIG loop and enters from the back. Bloody nightmare. This last trip the bus stopped at imm entry driveway. Go figure. Maybe bus drivers are same io. Depends who you get.

For a chequing account, I also think an undated (and crossed) cheque is the best solution. However, I suspect like most people here, he only has a savings account.

Cardless ATM is probably the next best, together with a witnessed letter to the effect that she is authorised to withdraw money from the account if ever necessary.

Does that exist in real world or you having a guess. I have zero expertise but thinking the op was implying death or something 2% less. Then a letter can allow withdrawal of 800k?

I understand. But call me paranoid and overthinking everything.

But I could also imagine a scenario where the machine sucks in the ATM card when she is doing withdraws.
Happens a lot when the machine has an error sometimes! or even in the case if the ATM card is lost.

There should be a way that I can have her bring my bank book to the bank with her, and get money out on my behalf.

    No

We've been together for 28 years, I am not worried about her.

I understand that I could have an ATM card made, but it has daily withdraw limits, if large sums are needed someone still needs to go to the bank personally.

Can't put the money in a joint account at the moment, since the money is still seasoning until next extension.

I just want to make sure that she can get this money out for me in case of an emergency where I physically can't do it myself.

    I like your thinking. Serious.

I travel often and my Thai partner says...."jack what if you die accident. I have nothing....". Its an important topic you raise. Ubon will sort it out tomorrow.

  8. Only thing comes straight to mind is she have access to your card and of course pin. That gives her 20k per day. I'm sure members with far more knowledge could advise about power of attorney etc. Don't know your financial situation, but if possible keep the 800k account to yourself and open a joint separate a/c. Oh as for your ac falling below 800k in event of illness, you mention, I wouldn't be planning on obtaining extension

And your point is well taken. At 72, he was possibly an infrequent visitor and unaware of all the ins and outs of preserving some sort of longevity of stay. I am sure that there's probably an equal-sized band of elderly, long-term residents who, either by lack of having access to the internet or simply having a shrinking circle of friends to meet and chat with socially, the 'old fashioned' way, that will be similarly disconnected from the faster-changing world they still inhabit. It's sad but inevitable.

You are so missing the point. Old fella was not disconnected because of age. Month ago in udon thani was chatting to youngish UK fella. Have run into him few time. Anyway he has Thai gf and is fortunate enough (financially) to visit often. They have 6 month old baby. Not married.  So he was telling me about his visa runs and other related issues being a pain.  I mentioned that as a parent of Thai dependent he could obtain non o. Had never heard of it. He has visited for years. Btw, not a stupid guy. I won't bore forum but could relate many stories similar.

  10. Hey OP. I use slightly different form of deposit into my Thai bank. Has worked for last 7 yrs. The point is I have never been asked about where money came from. I bring 25k usd every time im back home country. Then convert here in los and deposit. When time for extension I always bring with me my withdrawal slips from Au bank. Never been asked. Just stick the 800k baht in YOUR sole account and all done. Just a thought, you could just let your pension accrue in home country and transfer to your Thai bank 3 months prior to extension.

I seriously doubt you have any idea of how really minuscule the cumulative 'resident' old foreigners contribution to the Thai GDP is.

The tax dollars contributed by the cumulative 'resident' old foreigners in Thailand to their respective nation's coffers is probably about the same amount as they contribute to the Thai taxman.

You have concrete data on the minuscule comment? I'm 64 spend 60aud here every year. Sometimes more.  That is fact. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

But, if only momentarily, it did get him out of the comfortable Thailand rut afforded by Thailand's rather lax immigration enforcement that many think is their right. Plus, if he really has pitched his Thai tent in Rayong, he probably had a lot more fun in Saigon.

Was not point of my post. (BTW he is 72 and came back to visit his Thai (elderly) gf. Point of post is that many farang don't consult Thaivisa. Hence are not aware of changes etc. For every expat reading these forums there are sooooo many that do not and might be surprised when they go to embassy for affidavit next year.

Yesterday at the Oz Embassy a person in front of me also had a long conversation with the notarizer and I could hear him saying that the Embassy was wrong in denying a Aussie citizen a basic right amongst other points.

Sent from my Redmi Note 6 Pro using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Who said "the embassy was wrong...." The embassy staff or the expat? I'm bit surprised by all the comments in many threads about that the embassies are wrong. Lot of staff at the embassy are clerks. They are not in position to verify anything. Don't have expertise or authority. The income method with affidavit was a nonesence from outset.

  14. Changbeer. Could you clear up a question in case I run into someone in similar situation. Its not question about the 2 month money in bank (bummer break). The thing I want clarification on is your partners non o that is based on being "married" to you. I thought that Thai imm only recognised marriage and not de-facto. Is the marriage requirement only for Thai citizen

Many existing visa/extension holders may not be aware of the change that numerous Embassies in Thailand will no longer issue "affidavits of stated income". What will happen to those uniformed of the change, who waited until their regular renewal time in 2019?. It will be a big shock realizing there will be no new "extension of stay", and they have missed the "seasoning period" for the 800K.

I think this is very good point. Expats I sometimes run into, have never used Thaivisa. The Thai visa forum in particular keeps us up date with "changes". However as banana mentioned, there will be lot of people unaware of some embassies not issuing affidavits shortly. The s*** maybe hasn't hit fan just yet.

Why did you bother to respond to it then? You could have read the first few lines and then skipped over the rest.

I do that quite often. I enjoyed reading the post even though I don't live in CM or use the Office there.

Granted my words were harsh could of been far more polite. However look at the times of posts. The OP was about 23hrs ago. My reply was FIRST some 11 hours ago. The thread had a few views and zero replies for 11 hours. Daytime hours. It certainly got a bump

that's why, bring ca$h, if possible of course.....

..avoids all the bank cheating transfer fees and bad exchange rate ..all just a bunch of thieves these banks and money transfer instutions should they be "wise" or not !!!.....

However, cash obviously not always possible, but if you can, ca$h rules and exchange at SuperRich.... case closed.

Your spot on. I Do note that you mentioned "if possible". I have been posting in few threads re income letter vs 800k in bank. (esp with some major embassies not issue in future).  I generally bring in 50k aud each year because I go au each year. Then i Exchange at super rich. Not sure if some people have really examined accurate comparisons.
