So, let's say a British man is living in Thailand and something happens in the UK - for example his house has burned down. If the UK authorities are unable to contact him through normal methods, they can request that the Thai government get hold of him? I can't see them doing that to be honest. It makes much more sense when you start to think about criminals living in Thailand, and their home country wanting them to be extradited. But then, as has already been mentioned, these people probably won't be filing a TM30 anyway, so I really don't see the point of the huge effort to administer it.

Once you monetise it by charging fines, then it seems to be nothing other than a cash-grab, and another means by which the government can deport people for not following the rules.

    Cash grab yes

    Deport no

Finding criminals assisted by tm30..glad you see the funny side.....impossible.

For a relative to contact you from overseas because they need to as someone suggested. Even in an emergency. Good luck with that.

    TM30 is useless.

BTW most of the posts from members in all the TM30 threads are folk on extensions. Many living same address for long time.

    Thank you for your advice!
Chessmann, where can I download the form, do you have any links?
DrJack54, why not go over Poi Pet? The Siem Reap - Bangkok bus
runs just over this border crossing.

You will/should be OK Poi Pet because you have a visa. As far as that border crossing being used as a border run from Thailand or visa exempt entry into Thailand its to be avoided. Your not doing either of those.

More experienced members will no doubt give you first hand experience.

I filed TM30 last week at CW. My concern is what to do re TM30 so that I am in a no-hassle position when I extension retirement stay again, a year from now.

If no trouble, can you point me to posts where other retirees were told they needed to file only once, unless their address changes, even if they travel away from home?

What I would like to see is a report along lines .. "I did a tm30 couple of months back. Since then have exited and reentered thailand, as indicated by my last entry stamp. I did not file a tm30 and all was good for my 12 month extension today". Russian Roulette.

  4. OP, any ideas on location for border run? Reason I ask is I sometimes get asked this from guys not to familiar with options from Pattaya/Jomtien. I once suggested to a friend to fly U-tapao to udon and minibus nong kai. Mainly cause he wanted stay couple nights and likes bars. Can any members recommend crossing near koh Chang. Trat?

Do you (and DrJack) mean don't file any more TM30s until 24 hours after the arrival back in country that is closest to my next retirement extension deadline, in a year's time? Is that what you and most others plan to do?

I travel abroad several times a year. You don't think that during next extension, CW IO may ask why I didn't file TM30 after each trip, which are in Immigration records? I want to avoid any problems for next extension.

The only reason I'm leaving the tm30 till my last entry into los prior to my visit to CW for extension is that my passport will show date of my most entry. Like you, I exit los many times and never need to do 90 day report. I don't know CW attitude to trips away from residence inside Thailand.

I guess in the end its only 800baht fine (few reports), but its more the extra time doing it at CW on the day of extension.

Well you make it sound like they are not processing them which is far from true. They are not obligating them for those on long term extensions who live in their own property and have simply been out of the country or away for a few days. Last time I had the misfortune to be at Jomtiem, that office was pretty busy.

Yes my mistake. I was thinking about annual extensions such as retirement.

  7. I have ZERO knowledge re how folk from Serbia are treated. Thing is your friend has found himself in not best country for setv. For sure he should consult an agent. PP has record of issuing visa and instantly stamping it void. I cannot state from personal experience, but I have read on TVF that the agents (good ones) will advise on chances. Some members with personal experience will advise. Good luck.

You'll need to make a currency declaration departing Australia and arriving in Thailand (or any other country you pass through) if bringing cash. Failure to declare risks total loss and criminal prosecution if caught. Be aware, they may insist on counting it. There's much better ways to send money from Australia without the ridiculous bank fees and at much better than bank rates.
You might also have trouble changing and attempting to deposit such an amount in cash.

First of all the dec from au has no consequence. Its not forwarded to ATO etc. Since changes at some airports like Melbourne they are now electronic and departure card on reverse side tick more than 10k aud is placed in perspex drop box. Just skip it. As for arrival to Thailand. There is no limit on foreign currency. But amounts over 20kusd must be declared. Note in another thread someone picked me up on this and stated signs at airports los stating limit 15k USD. I fly every week haven't seen them DM. In any event declare if you wish. As for trouble depositing into Thai bank, I have done 800k baht many times. Never a raised eyebrow. I take it straight from superrich green.

As "for much better ways to transfer" please outline. I have an account with OFX. Same type company as transferwise. I use them as last resort. I just did quote for 20k aud. Rate is well below superrich.

As for banks ...well that's giving money away.

  9. OP ... I cant guarantee if this will work as CW have only recently started to require tm30. My plan is to make sure I file a tm30 prior any need to attend CW. For me that is once a year for annual extension. I plan to do that by mail as possessor to avoid needed owner/manager of condo involved. Presently registering online seems not a straightforward process esp with only an android. Travelling to CW is a chore and that's just to get there

  10. "3 or 4 months in los". Especially given then extended period not in Thailand. I would not even consider extensions. Given new regs money in bank etc. Can easily achieve 3 or 4 months here. Stuff em. Having said that I would obtain driving license and he would already have bank a/c.

You seriously do not want to go to Sihanoukville. It has been completely taken over by Chinese. No hotels, restaurants etc left that cater to westerners. Many of the Chinese establishments refuse to serve non Chinese. The beach is polluted..raw sewage dumped by the casinos etc.

Sent from my SM-J701F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

Sheryl...your confirming what backbacker  brigade have been telling me in Saigon. I haven't been there for several yrs and what I hear is sad tale. The story goes its a deep sea port and a deal was done with Chinese developers and Cambodian govt. Stick a s load of money into it. Develop port ...have your Casino. Build as many hi rise hotels as possible.

Is it as bad as tales I hear?

If I TT $40k to SCB they will give me an exchange rate of 21.03. If I take $40k cash to Super Rich I will get an exchange rate of 21.4. Taking cash to Super Rich rather than TT to SCB will save me 14,800 baht. This is a saving of $691.59AUD, not $1,000 as I initially stated. I used tonight's exchange rates published online.

Ozman...as I have stated few times in this thread. Its a no brainer... I make couple trips a yr to au. Brief visits. The bonus is I bring back 35k aud each time and visit superrich green. Know all about transferwise,  OFX etc and the clown banks.

    Show me the green!

Since you will be applying for an extension of stay there is no requirement to prove the 800k baht came from abroad.

You need to check with a bank about depositing that amount in cash.

I am sure they will want proof you declared it on entry to the country.

You can bring in 20usd without declaring. I realize 40k aud is more but I have done 800k baht deposits many times in cash and nothing asked.
