Soon they will realise that the virus doesn't transmit easily in hot countries like Thailand.
Second phase transmission is minimal and will get less as the hot season comes.
It will not get out of control.
To hit their tourist number targets they need to..... erm too late.

Next week soi 7 will be full of fat aggressive African prostitutes again.
They can make a lot more there than they can walking around Nairobi or Lagos.
Why do the police only round them up every six months.

Actually, the Tourism Ministry has confirmed that he is just waiting for Songkran. After that, the virus is going to die.
Maybe he needs to tell the Ministry of Condominiums.

Can you believe that the Thai government had started to enforce a cold war requirement for foreigners to report changes of location within 24 hours. What a bunch of incompetents.
The problem Thailand has is that the old military people running are not educated in the modern sense. But they are governing a population in which the younger generation have with modern schooling, levels of understanding and demands.
The old military men went to school in the 1960s and 70s when Thailand was poor and schools were not much more than day care centres. From that low base they can never grasp the modern world. They can never know how to run a modern country. This is why they are so ridiculed.

“People who said such things don’t live in Thailand and they don’t know how we work,”
I used to live in Thailand and I know how you work: You are incompetent and you lie. And somehow you bizarrely believe you are superior. And everyone else thinks you are an imbecile.
That is what people who live in Thailand think about how you work.

Extending Songkran is a boy scout idea to solve a serious problem. Are there any competent government officials or policy-makers?
How about some common sense, non-nationalistic economic policies like reducing input tariffs and barriers so that there is more price competition, and prices are not artificially stupidly high on many goods?

Oh no.
Thailand is sliding further from a fun happy smiley place to a crappy, miserable military dictatorship run by morons and incompetents whose limited schooling took place before critical thinking was introduced, and who don't know anything other than banning, cracking down and stopping people from doing stuff that they want to do.
Get out of our lives, you morons. You are accountable to the people. You are not the boss of the people.

But the Thai Government is so disliked and has created such a bad impression of Thailand as an unwelcoming, prejudiced, money-grabbing and ignorant place i'm not sure that changing minor bureaucratic rules will make a difference

"Pol Lt-Col Thanawat Sukhata said this was no ordinary suspect in a drugs case. He was a big player"
The normal police don't go after organized crime because they know the trail will likely lead back to corrupt senior police and officials.
That's why the African drugs gangs are free to roam lower Sukhumvit in Bangkok and operate out of the same well known and obvious places every day. The police won't touch them because their higher ups are running these gangs.
This guy would have to have an agreement with the Thai Mafia to operate with links with someone high in Authority.
My guess is that whoever Mr Big is, had enough of this guy and wanted him out so arranged for the cops to arrest him.
Maybe he was too much of a high profile poser with his army jeep and six Russian girlfriends.

No-one has any sympathy at all for the Thai authorities. In fact most people think they deserve everything they get. The Thai authorities probably don't know how despised they really are.

Britain has left with its tail between its legs. Wimpering and forlorn. Sent out into the wilderness like a Lion ejected from the pride to die miserable and alone.
The German takeover of Europe is complete. Britain was too small and weak to stop it. World War II is now officially at an end. Germany is the Victor.

she was quoted as saying: "Don't be worried about coronavirus. I was the first and I recovered and importantly I was treated by up country doctors"
I think she went to school before critical thinking was introduced to the curriculum. But more importantly, so did most of the government.

In my building just down the corridor is a Chinese man sitting in a room with his top off just in shorts, staring at his phone which is playing some loud sounds, with door wide open (to save air con costs I guess) puffing his chain smoking cigarrete smoke out into the corridor. Seems like not much concern about measures to reduce the risks of coronavirus spreading.

I'm waiting for the announcement that Immigration is temporarily suspending its policy of restricting visa on arrival and tourist visas. And that tourists can now enter and reenter as many times as they want during the year so that the arrival numbers can reach the target and foreigners can stay longer and spend more.
Immigration will also be tasked with being welcoming to farangs and being more intelligent, and operating in the manner of a modern customer-focused government department.

My guess is that they are not cracking down on Farangs. Though we might feel we are the centre of attention.
They are trying to stop a Chinese takeover. Same in Philippines. The people in both are complaining a lot about the Chinese invasion. Probably Cambodia will tighten up. Thailand is already a tight as a gnats ch*ff.

1 hour ago, DannyCarlton said:No problem. I've already taken to my bed. Have smart TV, internet, en suite and a tray being pushed through my door, every couple of hours with copious amounts of food and drink. Unfortunately unable to help with washing up, gardening and shopping.
Life's tough but I'm determined to beat this.
Pick that tray up with your elbows and shoulders. Don't touch it with your hands.

The sad thing is that they are going after the small fry 'criminals' to make a few hundred baht in fines, and spending a fortune doing it and justifying it to the Thai people ..... for their own legitimacy.
In reality they are the big fish corrupt criminals that are inept at governing. This is the real story that they want to keep from the Thai people.
However, most Thai people know this. They know their government is bad. And the civil service has been turned into an instrument of the military takeover.
I just hope the bile that foreigners feel for the Thai authorities doesn't spill over to the Thai people who are the biggest victims in this whole situation.

You might wish to consider lodging a completed TM11 to appeal against their decision if they don't. Blank form downloadable via the following link (#2):-
https://move2thailand.com/thailand-immigration-forms-download/
For the TM11 and TM12 it says the form must be submitted in person. How can this be done at the airport, and how long does the form take to process? Is there an appeals section? Also, if at an immigration office and the visa is revoked, how does the appeal process work? Thanks

"Military camps have provided full cooperation in the search, they added"
So the gunman is from the army. And the Army is the boss of the police under this Thai military dictatorship democracy system - the Army is above the law.
When the Army is above the law it makes a problem for the police and for the country.

"savvy tourists are choosing to go elsewhere for beach holidays like Cambodia and Vietnam, and even Bali"
Which Cambodian resort is attracting tourists because it is higher quality than Pattaya?
Surely not Sihanoukeville, which is owned almost down to the last hotel, restaurant, bar and casino by Chinese... and populated by Chinese males mainly there for gambling... and the disorder they create can't be controlled by the police or local Authorities.... and the infrastructure is a mess. The prices are too high for Cambodians and non-Chinese tourists won't go near the place any more..
The other coastal destination there, Kaep, doesn't really have a beach
So the only savvy tourists Pattaya is missing out on and Cambodia is getting are Chinese males who want to gamble... but Pattaya is not in the business of trying to attract Chinese gamblers. ....and anyway how could they be classed as savvy in any sense like having awareness or knowledge or of respect for different destinations...?
The watchdog is misinformed if it comes up with conclusions like that ..

My guess is this guy will be dead within a week.
Who really thinks they can kill three innocents and steal a bunch of gold and live the rest of his life spending the proceeds.
It has to be someone really really dumb, mentally ill or on yaba. Or maybe all three.
But how could someone capable of doing that not have committed major offences before that he's been locked up for and know the consequences.... death.

No Military government in history has run a country successfully. They don't have the skills in economic and social development. They only have skills in following orders and rules.. This is what they are trained to do.
They only know how to make people follow rules, control people and stop them from doing stuff. And amassing money and power for themselves whilst they stop others.
See the last government of Myanmar. A country with vast natural resources and potential wealth. And a military government obsessed by making and enforcing stupid rules and decisions. Like banning motos from Yangon. Getting buses to drive on the opposite side of the road so that people get off into the middle of the road. Building super-highways to ghost cities. An archetypal military government.

I'm supposed to answer my work e-mails while on holiday in LOS. I wonder whether the immos are going to come knocking if I do..... Perhaps they could find a Thai person who could answer my e-mails better than me... so I need to be deported.
Lawmakers should remember they are there to help people be successful not to stop people being successful.
70-80 Thai workers returning from South Korea 'have fled quarantine'

They flee because they don't trust the authorities. Can anybody blame them?
Neither Thais nor farangs like or trust the Thai Authorities one bit.
And that is because Thai authorities are mainly cretins.
