Thai Enquirer @ThaiEnquirer Members of the Move Forward Party (MFP) have dismissed speculation that they will leave the 8-party coalition. MFP list-MP Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn said if the 8-party coalition remains united, it will be impossible for the previous ruling coalition to form a functioning government. MFP deputy secretary-general Nattacha Boonchaiinsawat rejects the idea of leaving to allow portions of the junta-backed parties to join without Prayut and Prawit, pledging not to support Pheu Thai's PM candidate in such a scenario. MFP core member Amarat Chokepamitkul said the party does not intend to leave the coalition and still vote for the Pheu Thai Party's PM Candidate with the excuse of the two generals' absence. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1686286160136712192

Thai Enquirer Pheu Thai list-MP and caretaking party spokesperson, Rinthipond Varinvatchararoj, said the current view of Pheu Thai PM Candidate, Srettha Thavisin, is that the amendment of the lese-majeste law is currently an obstacle to the formation of the government. Rinthipond pointed out Srettha's interview with the media on July 20, during which he emphasized that the amendment of the law must be dropped before the next PM voting. Otherwise, the next PM candidate will not gain the support of the senators and many external parties. Rinthipond comment came after some senators expressed their reluctance to vote for Srettha because he said before the election that the law should be amended to prevent it from being used as a political tool. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1686297685450698752

The student-led pro-democracy protest group, United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration (UFTD), has announced a car mob to demonstrate support for the 8-party coalition. The event will take place at noon on August 2 at Asoke Intersection. Their objective is to encourage the coalition to remain united for the upcoming prime minister's voting on August 4. Additionally, they want the coalition to maintain its unity until the junta-appointed Senate's power to vote for a premier ends in May 2024, if necessary. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1685984341778972673 -

JUST IN: Prawit Wongsuwan resigned as @PPRPofficial leader in order to trigger a re-election of the executive board at a party meeting this morning. He’s already been asked to stand for party leadership again, as he previously swatted away rumors of his retirement. And unsurprisingly, Prawit has been re-elected @PPRPofficial leader as well as his right-hand enforcer Thamanat Prompow being re-confirmed as the party’s secretary-general. https://twitter.com/SaksithCNA/status/1685127728100704256

Highly placed sources close to self exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra say that the plans by Thaksin to return on August 10 remains intact. “This is BS, all he (Chuvit) does is manipulate and spread rumors,” the source said. This comes just hours after whistleblower Chuvit Kamolvisit late last night posted on his social media that plans of Thaksin’s return to #Thailand were abruptly changed due to change in ‘circumstances’. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1685100908320063489 -

New Thai PM could be elected on August 4, but…
anchadian replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The Pheu Thai party wants the Move Forward party to make a decision on the way out for the eight coalition parties, over the conditions being set for wider parliamentary support for Pheu Thai’s prime ministerial candidate, namely that there will be no amendment of the lèse majesté law and no Move Forward party in the government, said Phumtham Wechayachai, deputy leader of Pheu Thai, today (Friday). https://www.thaipbsworld.com/pheu-thai-wants-move-forward-to-find-a-resolution-for-the-coalition-parties/ -
Thai Enquirer @ThaiEnquirer Senator Gen. Lertrat Ratanavanich stated that the 8-party coalition would have enough votes for their PM nominee by collaborating with the Bhumjaithai Party and the Chart Thai Pattana Party, making additional votes from the senators unnecessary. He said the senators' responsibility is to screen the PM nominee, not to be concerned about which coalition holds the majority in the lower house before voting for a premier. He also said that while the senators don't wish to interfere in the voting for the prime minister, it is their duty to do so. However, if the MPs can secure enough votes independently, they can bypass the need for the senators' votes altogether. https://twitter.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1684840301956067328
