Oh I see, see your comparing a 3 year old petrol car with a 4 year old EV. The fact is for every statistic saying EV’s depreciate, there are others saying they don’t. i just sold a 15 month old EV with average depreciation, another member here sold his MG EV within an hour of listing it for full asking price. EV sales are accelerating here, there is a great market for second hand EV’s. You are right, I shouldn’t have attacked you and I apologize for that. Try posting more balanced views.

I rarely watch clickbait and certainly not the rubbish you post. There was an article on MSN last week about the cars that appreciated the most during 2023, the top one was an EV The second-hand cars soaring in value – and an EV tops the lot (telegraph.co.uk) Unfortunately it's behind a paywall though you can gain access by registering. The top car was a BMW i3 I saw on move today, the MG4SE is expected to lose only 44% over three years.

Also, the car that appreciated in value the most in the last year in the UK is an EV

I do agree with his assessment of Toyota and other manufacturers future. without trade barriers, China is going to dominate the future automobile industry. It's a thorny one, do you prevent European and American buyers from buying cheap Chinese EV's and slow down the whole EV changeover process or do you let them have free reign customers will be happy but your local manufacturers will bite the dust. -

I don’t know about their inverter and motor, but the batteries are from BYD. -

I think most people balk at paying double for their car when they get nothing more, it’s not as if they are buying a luxury marque. -
It appears Elon is in the news again. It’s well know the board of Tesla are friends, relatives and others who can be relied upon to back him. In the recent case where the Delaware judge blocked his shares bonus, the judge cited that they were not sufficiently independent to be trusted to look after the broader shareholders. Now it appears he has a drug culture and some of the other directors feel pressure to party with him. https://news.yahoo.com/elon-musks-company-directors-feel-042156923.html

Why would anyone buy the bZ4x? dealer registrations maybe. -
Do I know anything about his pay package? Yes I do, details are in the public domain. Regarding HQ Elon Musk announces plans to move Tesla HQ in revenge for Delaware pay row (msn.com) Who would I rather have running the company? A responsible CEO reporting to the board who acted in the best interests of all shareholders. Why would a shareholder be unhappy with Elon? I think you would have to ask that shareholder, I am right out of telepathy juice today.
-
The SEC determined he didn't have the backing to take Tesla private, that's good enough for me, it also fits with his behaviour. Investors lost money because the share price swung up and then tanked. I mean the share package that a judge ruled was unfathomable. You mean the one he negotiated with himself & his yes men directors? Elon Musk has announced plans to move Tesla’s legal incorporation from Delaware to Texas following a judge’s decision to annul his whopping $55.8 billion compensation package. You pose a question about yourself, I chose not to answer but to comment on it. I can confirm this is the only account I have had here over the last 10 years or so.
-
Because I can't answer the question, that is why I responded to it. It could also have something to do with you demanding an answer to it ad nauseum too. Here is my prediction for Tesla in Thailand. They will pull out and either leave a skeleton maintenance team or they will subcontract maintenance. My reason is simple. Elon Musk makes decision on emotion sometimes. He got a bloody nose over his sub affair, he is probably angry that Chinese EV companies are getting subsidies he's cant because he won't commit to making vehicles here (he can't, he chose China for his ASIA/OCEANIA production base) and thirdly because his sales volumes here are terrible because he can't compete with BYD.
-
Several things. He stated he had backing to take the company private when he hadn't, lots of investors lost money over that. He wants to move the company's HQ to another state so he can be rewarded with $56B, a judge didn't feel that was in the shareholders interest and blocked it. I can' answer your question on whether you are mad, because I never said you were.
-
Hello? Anyone else hearing an echo?
-
The oldies are the best ones. Did I say you were mad? I don't think I did, I personally think you would have been foolish to hold onto them in late 2023 when noises were being made about BYD's potential superiority and higher margins, probably earlier too when he started slashing prices.

Incidentally, I do like Elon Musk. I think his businesses are risky because they are all about him. If he dropped dead, shares in his business would immediately be in the toilet. admittedly, it's a low risk than him shooting his mouth off which often has the same effect. Giving one guy ultimate control without checks and balances, gets things done quickly, but it also leads to mistakes, his Yoke steering wheel is a good example. I don't like his approach to nickel & diming cost cutting, removing stalks from steering wheels, not having a speedometer in your line of sight, putting the indicator switches on the steering wheel. some of these things are dangerous to new Tesla drivers. It's hard not to admire Elon Musk for what he has achieved, but he's not infallible and not trustworthy, you have to take what he says with a pinch of salt.

I saw the Deepal saloon L07 today, very impressive, quite a bit bigger than the Seal.

And financially sensible applies to me and anyone in a similar situation. Musk/Tesla is different, Musk should answer to the board as all CEO's are supposed to do, but they are all yes men, he makes dangerous decisions and says dangerous things. The board is supposed to answer to the shareholders.
-
Sorry I hadn’t resisted you post about financially being silly was just referring to you. Tesla is riskier because it’s just one man without checks and balances making the big decisions and he sometimes makes them on emotion. I did mean refrigerated seats. Ventilated with refrigerated air, extremely effective.
-
They don't all boil down to price, the first one is not price, it's risk. Why do you think financially it's silly to buy an EV? I assume your comparing similar new cars, EV & ICE? Financially it makes great sense for me. I have zero trust in FSD being delivered before my replacement cycle, I think he has gone down a blind alley by losing LIDAR. Thailand doesn't have thousands of Tesla's mapping the roads, it probably doesn't have any. Missing bits, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, Heads Up display, Speedometer in front of your, steering wheel stalks, ability to load apps on infotainment, refrigerated seats

I do have another issue with Tesla. I wouldn't want the base model 3, I would want performance or long range and I don't like the battery chemistry in those two variants, it's not ideal for Thailand. Most of the braking in day to day driving is kinetic energy regeneration (KER), the brakes are only used to bring you to a final stop or in emergency braking. Pressing the brake pedal causes KER until you are almost stopped or press it very hard indeed, KER is variable on brake pedal pressure in the Seal and it blends the brakes so you don't even notice.
-
I think they are looking a bit dated now. I have 3 issues with Tesla in Thailand... First, Elon Musk, Tesla=Elon Musk, Elon Musk=Tesla. Elon has no checks and balances and he talks BS, he also employs some underhand practices, eg black colour is free, white colour is 50k THB more, but in Malaysia it's the other way around. Second, the prices here are too high, they need to be dropped by 20% Third, Tesla is priced as an AI company, it's not, it's an EV manufacturer, his full delf driving will never work in Thailand because their vision based system likes clean white lines. There is a class action lawsuit in the UK, they are suing Tesla because 4 years ago they bought FSD, it's never been delivered, many people in the Uk work on a 3 year replacement cycle. Even if the prices were dropped 20%, I would have to think long and hard about all the missing bits you get standard on the BYD.
