We have 2 MG EV's, a one year old MG EP+ which was my daughter's at University in Chiang Mai and is now for sale, and an MG4 which was mine and is now my daughter's as I replaced it with a BYD EV. The MG EV's are fine cars and have a huge market share in the UK where they didn't screw up their brand by marketing poorly built petrol cars. MG's have a poor reputation in Thailand, I think well deserved for their ICE vehicles, it is taking them some considerable time to repair that image.

  7. Well, it could be a very long time as EV's are between 10 and 120 times less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles.
  8. The graphic is just 3 of about a dozen different charging providers, Thailand has an excellent charging infrastructure. EV's not selling? 50% of car orders at last month's motorshow were EV's, 25% of all new car registrations in December were EV's. The only EV's not selling are late-to-market legacy ICE manufacturers who haven't sorted out their supply chains and are losing sales to those that have. Case in point, Toyota's bZ4x is double the price of an MG4 and doesn't compare well on any metric. For countries that planned their EV strategy properly (eg Norway, Thailand), waiting for an EV charging point is almost unheard of, you rarely need more than 20-30 minutes to charge your car, about the time it takes for a coffee and a pee. The other thing to bear in mind, is assuming you live somewhere with a home charger, the nearest charging point you will ever need is at least 150km away.

  14. If it is reasonable to expect an ICE car to still be running after one year, they would be guaranteeing that. They are not.
  15. You have to take everything Toyota say with a pinch of salt. They have a history of making EV type announcements and not delivering. I think their aim is to share FUD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt) to stop people from being EV's because their offering bZ4x is comparable to other EV's here at half the price.
  16. It depends on battery technology. NMC type batteries don't like being kept at 100% or left discharged below a certain level (probably 10%). Mobile phone batteries are NMC, the worst thing you can do with a phone is plug it in to charge when you go to bed. I only charge my phone to 80% and not wirelessly if I can avoid it. LFP batteries don't mind so much and the manufacturer likes them to be charged to 100%. When a battery is down to 70% capacity, you would probably use it all, but if you looked after it then that might be after 20 years.
  17. I just renewed the road tax on my daughter's MG4 (2 months before it's due) and I think I paid over 2,000 baht with the compulsory insurance included. Correction, I just checked it was 1,300 baht plus the compulsory. I think EV's are done on weight.
  18. In my case, it's simply that I am a car enthusiast and want something with high performance that is also quiet & comfortable to drive and I would rather not spend more than I have to. It is pleasure that drives me. I used to drive ICE, there wasn't really any choice. My epiphany came when I bought a Mercedes E-Class PHEV. I loved the silence and comfort, the range of 20km not so much. My next car was a BEV and now I can't ever imagine owning a legacy powered car again.
  19. I watched the video but my schoolboy French is not up to snuff. I am not sure what they were testing or how they tested it. There are 2 statements made... 1. Seal testers complain about the lack of regenerative braking 2. A simple test carried out with several EVs at 80km/h on a flat road shows that the Seal needs 235 meters to stop while some do so from 132 meters Are they saying the Seal needs 235 meters to stop using only regenerative braking? or are they saying the Seal needs 235 meters to stop from 80km/h? I suspect it's the former. The Seal has 2 levels of regen, Standard & High. High is not that high compared to MG4 or MG EP+, but the brake pedal increases regenerative braking to a much higher level than cars without blended braking (eg MG EV's where the brake pedal only works the brakes) and the brakes are only brought into play for the last few km/h to bring the vehicle to a final halt. I did some googling, I can't find any other complaints about Seal regen braking, I think the testers probably didn't understand the function of the brake pedal as increasing regenerative braking.
  20. I've driven both before ordering, the Seal was to my mind a far superior package. The Tesla model 3/Y also look dated even in latest Highland refresh.
  21. I think you will find the brakesw are used to bring you to a complete stop, so you don't need to test them all the time. That list 5-8 kmhr is when they're used.
  22. That's why BYD is outselling Tesla 10 to 1 in Thailand. BYD Seal is far superior to Tesla model 3.
