Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income
JBChiangRai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It has created a loophole because it is being used in ways not intended. it is a loophole for those people who are using it to avoid paying tax anywhere. -

Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income
JBChiangRai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's already in effect for income remitted in the same year earned (has been for many years), what's new is closing the loophole of remitting it the following year. As before, it's practically impossible to enforce it, but it does give them the right to challenge a large incoming transfer and ask you to prove you paid tax on it, but it's not farang's they are after, it's rich Thais exploiting the loophole, but I dare say, transferring from a privacy oriented tax haven might raise a few flags. -

If you earn money tax-free overseas and have been remitting it the following year to avoid tax then yes, otherwise chillax, it's not aimed at you. -

I said this was their intention all along. Simply closing the tax-free remit following year loophole. -

Any car not made or assembled here (CKD) is expensive to insure. Roojai (for example) won't insure any of these cars. If Tesla open a plant here I think it will make a lot of difference. I suspect they are insuring those Chinese manufacturers who have committed to manufacture or assemble here. -

I just renewed the insurance on my daughter's 1 year old MG EP+, the dealer quoted 19,000 baht but we went with Roojai for 8,800 baht with a max cover of 610,000 baht. I would have preferred a higher coverage but they wouldn't go any higher. -

In Thailand 40% generally means it blocks about 40% of the light, in America The Former Colonies, it means it allows 40% of the light through. I am surprised at Lamina's definition, it doesn't really mean anything, it's a product name. -

My Benz had nearer 95% or 99% tint on the sunroof, the sun appeared as a dark purple blob.. I always go for 40% reduction all round. My first car here I went with 60 or 80 on the side windows (I can't remember which) and at night time I had to lower the windows to see if the junction was free. I agree with you on the cheaper films, my MG4 came with free film, and it's rubbish, I can't see it lasting more than a 2-3 years. -
New public health minister walks back ‘recreational’ cannabis
JBChiangRai replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The issue I have with age 20 is this..... We know Cannabis harms the developing brain. We know brains continue to develop until mid 20's (M26, F24) Yet we set the age limit at the age of adulthood, not the age brains stop developing. There's a mismatch here. I suspect most 20-25 year olds that try Cannabis for the first time, don't even know that it can damage their brains. -

There can be more than one cause for an illness. For example, do we say it's ok to smoke cigarettes because thousands of people have lung cancer from other sources? I do support medical cannabis, I also support recreational cannabis with safeguards, one of those being informed consent. It's important that people understand the risks and don't try it because a stoner says "It's perfectly safe" when clearly it isn't and for young users it has very severe, lifelong consequences. The safeguards needed are entirely missing in Thailand and the government should have addressed those first before (un)intentionally legalising recreational use. I also support legalising MDMA with controlled production & similar safeguards. I would prefer to see revelers at nightclubs taking MDMA than alcohol, they can love each other instead of fighting each other. -

I can't say where I would prefer one pedal driving as I've never tried it. When I first drove the MG4 I was resetting regen to the lowest setting at every start and then I thought it was too much hassle so I just left it the default maximum as I started the car, now I prefer it at maximum. Once you get the hang of it, you are hardly using the brakes, if I release the accelerator too early, I just let the car creep the last few metres, but mostly it's muscle memory and I seem to get it right most of the time. -

If adults want to make an informed decision to use cannabis recreationally, then I think as long as government puts the appropriate rules & framework in place, we should allow it. We have to prevent those vulnerable members of society who are most at risk to it's negative effects, gaining access to the drug. I tend to agree with UK Law Enforcement, surrender your driving licence if you want to use Cannabis recreationally. -

I think 99% of YT'ers are completely boring and a lot are trying to monetise themselves. You can usually summarise a 24 minute video in one paragraph you can read in 30 seconds. I am surprised this thread wasn't taken down as self-promoting their business. -

I agree he is biased, most YT'ers are. Also, pricing makes a big difference, if the Seal cost the same as the Tesla then maybe I would agree with him, but Tesla is price gouging in Thailand (currently). -

Elon Musk has consistently shown that he makes snap decisions on emotion. His Zoom meeting with Twitter senior managers where when anyone who questioned him, he responded "You're Fired". His public spat with the owner of the monopoly owner of LIDAR at the time where they refused to meet his price, how he responded to criticism of his submarine. In the LIDAR case he was so annoyed he now champions vision-based systems and tries to argue very publicly against LIDAR yet the experts say LIDAR would stop his cars from running into objects on test. I think this is why he doesn't already have a factory here, he felt slighted on his last trip to Chiang Rai and it will have to be a significantly advantageous business case and lots of ego smoothing worshiping for him to open here. Reducing the price of his cars would make a big difference, I think Tesla sales are going to stall here, the Seal is a much better proposition, not least because the Model 3 cabin is cheap & cheerful and doesn't have a premium feel. I am less keen on buying the Tesla Model 3 LR and adding the performance boost, I don't see it as affecting the 2nd hand value at all, I think buying Performance Boost is going to have 100% depreciation. You have to be very careful on expensive extras. Also, Tesla's Full Self Driving won't work properly in Thailand, most roads are far too dirty for it to pick up on markings. The MG4 has one pedal driving on the next release of software, they already have it in the UK. I would be surprised if the level of regen is increased over the current 25%, it already has significant deceleration on KERS 3 and I don't think it would be comfortable with a higher regen (it may also be dangerous if you're close to the limit on a bend as it shifts the center of gravity forward). I suspect it will bring the brakes in from something like 8 KmHr to bring the car to a stop. -

REgen ON and you can think of it as like driving your fotuner, when you lift off the throttle the engine brakes, regen is just the same. Turning Regen OFF is like shifting it into Neutral and coasting.
