  1. Your avatar suggests differently. Though your more like Dibble.
  2. Good point. Generally I don't mind being tracked so much, if you're a law-abiding citizen then you have nothing to fear and if it's available under a freedom of information request then it could even help you if you're accused of a crime and innocent and miles away.
  3. Lithium is a fairly scarce resource and difficult to mine. It makes a lot of sense to recycle the batteries at end of life (EOL). however, EOL in an EV is probably the beginning of another decade's use in a solar storage project. I agree with you on initial popularity, Tesla did that for everyone.
  4. There is a lot more stored energy in the equivalent weight (or volume) of petrol or diesel. Try taking than on board an airline!
  5. I have not seen any government announcement they will start applying it again, can you post a link? I never said they WILL impose back tax, only that they CAN if they so wish.
  6. Here is a likable Yellowtail in my bedroom.
  7. Transam has found a new way to troll.
  8. I have 2 cats and 4 glue traps around the garage. I have to keep the cats out the garage as they jump onto the roof and sit, they scratch the car as they push off the car half way during their jump with their claws extended. One of my cats even has a Yellowtail, though he's much more likable.....
  9. That is very true for 2024. It was also true for 2023. Historically, the RD has turned a blind eye to foreigners who money comes from overseas. I haven't seen any evidence that has changed from the RD, I have seen it from tax advisers looking for fees.
  10. Any chance we could have a push button Stop for you, Transam and EOW?
  11. What is the rat protection cover? Is it for Seals too? It sounds like a good idea.
  12. Where have you got the information that you will be taxed from 1/1/2024? The tax situation is, and always has been, the same for foreigners as it was/is for Thais. Tax has always been due on earnings brought into Thailand in the same year it was earned, we have never had a pass.
  13. That's why I used the term "explicitly taxable" They clairified that from 1/1/2024.
  14. So they will see 6-7Kw or around 2Kw. They won't be seeing a varying load with kettles, aircons, water heaters etc. They are using AI to look for specific usage patterns I guess. It could be done by PEA/MEA or it could be done by the government who scrape all digital data from stakeholders like PEA. It's unlikely the government would do that unless you're an anti-government activist or a MFP candidate 😉
  15. I don't propose burying your head in the sand. I propose waiting to see what happens. My own personal strategy is I won't bring any amount that incurs a tax liability this year. But in any event, under no circumstances would I be among those first guys filing tax returns. Just remember, in general, nothing significant has changed.
  16. They have to provide it annually. The difference from 1/1/2024 is that those transactions explicitly became taxable. They were not explicitly taxable last year.
  17. I would use my car as ESS, probably from 6pm until bedtime and then over to PEA in anticipation of cheap rate. I do have 28.8KwHrs of ESS now, I don't use it. My other issue with ESS is the life of them, if you are cycling every day they may need replacing in 10 years. If they cost 200k THB then that's about 1,500 THB per month to knock off your savings.
  18. I just realised. These digital meters are doing much more than recording units. They are connected to the internet with GSM and feeding back instantaneous data (but probably by batch). So PEA/MEA can see the load at any instant, clearly they have seen low loads (a lot less than 7Kw charging) on these meters and therefore know they are being abused and can take an educated guess on what appliances are running from them. I'm not terribly happy about them knowing when I turn on a light, or a kettle. Understanding Thailand 4.0 (as I do), I realise this usage data is being stored centrally by the Government against the Citizen's ID. Thailand 4.0 is all about centralising & catching all data on all Thai citizens in a digital format.
  19. I can see why they would take a 2nd line back to the same meter. There will be a voltage drop across the cable when you are drawing 7Kw charging your EV and in many cases the overhead cables may not be strong enough to support 7Kw EV plus a few Aircons/Instantaneous water heaters etc. If & when I build and downsize to a smaller house, I will go for a TOU meter and Grid-Tied solar, still charging the car when the sun is out but my overnight aircon would be cheaper.
  20. This is why most of you should do nothing. Have you been bringing money into Thailand at any time in the last decade that was not savings (eg pension or earnings) & you brought it in in the same year you earned it? Guess what? Tax is due for all those years. So you submit a tax return for 2024 and the revenue may ask you, what about 2023, 2022, 2021 etc etc AFAIK, there are only 2 tax changes effective 1/1/2024 to need to consider. The first is on Crypto sales on Thai exchanges and the 2nd is on bringing in money earned prior to 1/1/2024.
  21. The statement is on their Facebook OFFICIAL page, made by them, not a member of the public. https://www.facebook.com/EVAT2015 This is the whole point I was making. People are switching from ICE to EV. The whole car industry is down over 40% but the share of EV's is growing to the detriment of the ICE market share. Totally off topic, but something very important to bear in mind regarding the Tax situation. If you have been bringing money here from a pension or from earnings, and at any time in the last couple of decades you brought it in during the year you earned it. Tax is due. Don't think it all changes from 1st January 2024 - It doesn't. There are only 2 changes effective from 1/1/2024, the first is tax on crypto and the 2nd is bringing in funds you earned in previous years (i.e. savings). If you do a tax return for this year, expect them to ask about the last decade too. So in other words, do nothing.
  22. Actually, Thais are buying, for the last 5 months, the market share of EV's has grown every month. It's fair to say though that not many people are buying cars of any type currently.
  23. MG guarantee the batteries in most of their EV's for the lifetime of the vehicle. I think the industry will follow suit, but that's just my humble opinion. The irony of that is the numbers were provided by an Anti-EV guy. And guess what, I gave him the credit when I first posted them. I love it when anti-EV guys post numbers that destroy their own arguments.
  24. Do you have a link to a source for that @mistral53 ?
