  1. I bought a Bangkok bike and had to change plates to Rayong. Go to where you'll be doing the paperwork to buy and have them give you the forms and they can mark where signatures are needed. Bring the bike so the office can identify the engine numbers.
  2. So now you're stalking elderly women in the markets, ease dropping. Just retire already.
  3. 401K is a Retirement fund which employer contributes to each payday and you can elect how many % you wish to have deducted from paycheck.
  4. How many Thais think or plan retirement? It's been my experience that none do. My MIL has had 2 husbands and not a one has a concern for her well being, certainly no thought of her life, or the kids after their death. This taking care of wife is a western ideology which doesn't apply here. I'm getting busy spending more money now so there's none left when I go.
  5. I thought everyone's old lady on this forum had high paying jobs making more than you. You posters who say you don't give the wife money because she's "decent" hard worker. My question is why would you be worried of taking care of her after your death but not while you were living.
  6. I find myself in an opposite dilemma, I always lived below my means. I never had a new car, only paid cash for used. Didn't have a credit card till age 45. Retired at age 62 with a healthy savings and 401K which I maxed out for over 10 yrs. On top of that I get rent for 2 properties. Here in Thailand I've paid cash for 2 homes in old lady's name, we have a kid together. My problem is I've got to get busy spending money. I could very easily been one of the guys you describe with little monthly money had I always had a car payment, eaten out, not worked so hard, never tried to better myself. Didn't do to bad with a HS diploma.
  7. You're right he (the Swiss) should have traded her in long ago.
  8. It's not about asking, life happens even to good folks. Decent job probably equates low paid, am I right. So I doubt your wife can help much regularly. It's better to address the elephant in the room and make an arrangement. If you were to go to her village in a new shiny 2Mil car bought with cash, do you honestly think they wouldn't like a hand up, something? I could cause I don't give a fork anymore.
  9. I'm with you on this 100%. The kids shouldn't be forced to jab for the sake of others who have been vaccinated. Or if your decision was not to be vaccinated, don't think of forcing kids to be vaccinated for your sake.
  10. Would it matter why an individual scaled a wall, discharged a gun in an assault. The Swiss is defending him self regardless of WHY the guy climbed over the wall.
  11. Nothing is obligatory, the only difference I've done is make it part of budget. I's assume many inlaws are retirement age and we know few have income besides some small jobs. Their kids are their retirement plan.
  12. Please read my entire post and your question will be answered. Me, we never discussed anything about the money as the family is decent. But, even decent people in Isaan are needing occasionally. If her family is better off financially than you are, then you are lacking in the money making dept. Maybe you should instead say I'm too poor to help so I don't.
  13. I'm impressed that none of the posters here discuss what money is allotted to the lady's family. Guess I'm the only one. When I was working I turned a blind eye except on occasion. But, when I retired I settled on an amount monthly, no surprises. I have a decent monthly deposit of 90ishK/mo. and don't care about saving any money. As a single guy 50K/mo would be fine. How much do you give the lady's family monthly??
  14. Not true, they followed the little lady to her village. Wasn't their choice. And now for many it's too late.
  15. Good price, last year cost me 17,000 and this year it's 18,000 tbh.
  16. I have an OA, last year used an agent and for 3,000 tbh I got a BS policy. I have blue cross/blue shield from home. This year I'll leave Thailand come back visa exempt and get a Non O. If you want to keep the OA, using an agent is way cheaper than buying an Ins policy you don't need.
  17. I've got a 10 yr old and I agree. Deciding for others is one thing but when it's your own taking a jab with a new on the market vaccine bit different.
  18. My experience was like yours. I live in an area with foreigners now so no real need for it here. But at times taking a walk a deserted stretch of beach 2 people passing a simple head nod of acknowledgment by both Thais and foreigner alike is a friendly greeting.
  19. Yeah, CS walk and biked for entertainment, cooked at home, didn't drink or smoke. It would certainly take a disciplined individual. I probably spend 10K/mo on 7-11 alone ahahaa
