I'm a US Dept of Defense employee and I have a $100.00 allotment per pay period going to Bangkok Bank.  Just for emergency baht if I wind up at DMK or BKK with none.  Anyway this last pay period; 13 December my allotment went thru posted as an International Transfer.  I also transferred $1000.00 from Navy Fed, same day and it bounced back.  So it looks like DFAS will still work.

The nice thing about Navy Fed is you can transfer any amount for $25.00 directly to Thai account.

It's quite a way out of Pattaya city..I think anyone who managed to drive themself there ( in one piece from Pattaya) would not need much more tuition ????

They were a help in passing the computer test, you get a chance to practice riding the narrow plank. When you finish the course they give you all the paperwork needed for license at Land office.

Guess your either a lot poorer then me or havent watched Singapore well (i certainly dont have millions to spend) . I would say there are far more elderly working or without money in Thailand then in Singapore.

I would not call any of the places slums or int he sticks, i guess you really have not been to Singapore. Yes Singapore treats people with better education better (as it should). Rewarding people who put education first and are smart is a good way to get a country ahead.

I think Singapore still does not compete with the US in poor people and their jobs.

Fun to visit, been there many times. Geylang is fun, didn't go to Lil India. Some food courts have cheap food. Spent most time around Orchard. Not rich enough to make S'pore my home.

Geylang has fish bowl places on the even numbered streets, Orchard Tower is famous for the 4 floors. Orchard area on sundays has large crowds of Filipino ladies on their day off, called Maid's Day.

Lucky Plaza has lots of buy me drink clubs.

  4. My reason for believing the Ins requirement won't effect "O" visa in the future is because if they were to do this their would be little incentive to keep 800K in Thai bank. I got my "OA" in Sept - 19, plan on going the "O" route next time.

As I visit the US every year and Ins may be required for O in the future why would I continue to keep $$ in Thai Bank.

Could you be a bit more precise Sukhumvit is a very long road...water slides ?????   Cartoon Network ??

Take Suk south, pass Cartoon Network, there's a Motorbike Dealership on your left in front of stop lights, the school is directly behind dealership, same building. You'll see driving course. I got the brochure for school from Kawasaki Dealer on Suk. It's called Mityon Driving School owned by the dealership. First day is solid computer test taking, second day riding the course and third day test on computer and practical on the course. A few instructors speak English.

$10 dollars attracts the same 200 THB minimum fee a larger amount does.

But I am surprised that you were even able to try a test deposit via a US Bank through Bangkok Bank New York's branch since most have recently been rejected and funds returned to the sending bank

I did that last transfer a few months back. I'll try again, didn't realize it was a 200 bht charge for transfer.

It's just that many Thais have a somewhat unique perspective of the world. They see absolutely nothing wrong with discrimination against foreigners. We must remember that to a shocking number of Thais, foreigners are truly seen and perceived as being something closer to animals than humans -- a subspecies. LOL

I myself have similar feelings about my fellow human beings.

Selective enforcement by Police happens many times even in front of the police station on Beach Road. Thais without a helmet ride by but every foreigner without a helmet gets caught. Also 3 Thais on bike ride by, no action by the police.

Is 3 on a motor bike illegal ?? I think not, as long as driver has helmet.

I am 65 and grew up and lived in the USA most of my life. I am in Thailand not because I am trying work out my anger but because it is no longer the country I grew up in. Every single day there is another senseless mass shooting in the USA. If you think it is any different, the land of milk and honey where there there is no addiction, no progress in wages keeping up with inflation and everything is bliss then let me know where you lived and why it was so great. Please add why you are in Thailand if you feel America is such a great country.

The USA is the greatest country in the world, But I prefer Thailand for the time being.

I've already explained here my necessary use of plastic bags... to bring garbage to my condo hall's garbage chute and to bring recyclables to the ground floor recycling bin. If you can suggest an alternative as to how I might transport my garbage down the hallway cleanly and efficiently, I'd be eager to hear it.

They do sell rolls of plastic bags, just saying.
