  1. Could be a USNS ship and they're doing a vessel repair which means they're civilians.
  2. Probably so, 11-12 yrs ago there were fewer foreigners. I didn't think anything of it at the time, just paid.
  3. I actually gave a 100 baht tip on my last extension visit. It went so smoothly.
  4. Anyone remember Canarysun. His claim to fame was he bragged that he lived on 10,000 baht/mo in Pattaya. He walked everywhere, cooked at home, no booze, no AC, a treat for him was a 10 baht ice cream at KFC. I'd say a single guy could live pretty well on 30K/mo for necessities as long as you had a side account for the unexpected and things like travel.
  5. When you register a business, called a business license. Not just for opening a bank account.
  6. I pay 500 baht for mine, money goes in the top drawer, no receipt, issued on the spot. 11 yrs ago in Sakon Nakhon they were charging me 1000 baht.
  7. The 3 page paperwork said TIN, that's when I stopped the transaction. In the US your SSN is your tax number so this must have been for Thai authorities as well.
  8. Me, I don't want a Thai TIN. I can't recall what I did 10 yrs ago for my account. But because I deposit my pension monthly they stopped my online transfer capability and ATM card. Guess I'll do cash all the way. Does the US issue a US TIN, I don't think so...only your SSN. Looking back on today I think it was for a Thai TIN
  9. Is Bob there? Hey Bob, knock it off with twidle dee and twidle dum.
  10. So, today I went to go open a second bank account so I can do online transfer and have an ATM. I walked away when they brought out the paperwork for a Tax Id Number. They want my US SSN, I don't think so. Anyone recently open a new account.
  11. I started out in Isaan for like 6 yrs as a part timer, near sakon, AC is most definitely needed, especially for sleeping. But, good on you.
  12. Always like seeing your pics from Isaan. But, in this case.....wondering how the wife and kid likes your way of thinking.
  13. I can roll through 120K/mo for the 3 of us. I try to save 10-20K/mo but that rarely works. No house or car payments. Air travel and hotels booked I usually pay with foreign CC. School fees are usually paid for with different money. We live far from extravagantly, Could we do it on 50K/mo? of course it's very doable but would be lacking.
  14. They're afraid you'll steal their LB.
  15. Thanks but....think I'll stick with gold for the ole lady and latest electronics for the kid.
  16. This is why it's so healthy to leave Thailand every now and again, just to regroup and realign your thoughts about Thailand. Take a month and go back to the good ole US of A for some perspective. I guarantee you'll come back refreshed with a new mind set.
  17. It's majorly disturbing. The news media can't use "fake video" excuse here. I'm sure our adversaries had a good chuckle and our allies must be worried.
  18. I have Blue Cross/Blue Shield International which I kept after retiring from DOD. I've used it once at BPH for surgery which cost 350K. I didn't pay anything. Some of the follow up visits weren't covered 100% and I had to pat 1200 copay. When I was released from Hospital they escorted me to the cashier, I wasn't sure what my cost would be but as it turned out, I didn't have a charge.
  19. Biden had a week to prepare hidden away. The voice had zip to do with Joe's failure and you know it. Think of the danger that debate has causes the USA, with our enemies confirmation that we are without a leader. Who's running the show?????
  20. Eating airline seafood......Aren't you the adventurous one.
  21. I agree, but later in your life a decision must be made. Do you spend your money, after all you're the one who earned it or...leave it to others who in all likely hood wouldn't have sacrificed so much for the money.
  22. I'm not in that caliber. But thanks.
