AFAIK it is not mandatory for foreigners to have their passports with them at all times. A paper copy, or photos on a smartphone should be adequate for police checks. I can remember being asked at a checkpoint, my driving licence was sufficient. The rules for banks vary. Bangkok Bank accepts the passport photo on my phone, Kasikorn insists on the physical passport.

The police will tell anyone prepared to listen the three factors in accidents are speed, alcohol and fatigue. Lack of concentration gets classified as fatigue. It is unarguable alcohol impairs reaction times and balance. Just a couple of drinks will do it. Alcohol also removes inhibitions. You say you have been driving 30 years without an accident. Every day you continue drinking and driving makes an accident statistically more probable. As enforcement is weak in Thailand, many people get away with drink driving. However, you may be involved in an accident, even if it is not your fault. If that happens, as a foreigner rest assured you will not be treated with kid gloves.

My son had two friends in their forties, healthy, that died. There were 350,000 COVID deaths under Trump's presidency. That's a higher annual average than under Biden's 3.5 years. Trump's refusal to wear a mask, and endorsement of bleach and unproven medications, certainly did not help. A couple of facts worth noting - the death toll in the red states are higher than the blue states. Also, the death rate is trending up again, as the rallies are increasing in frequency. You are setting a very low bar. According to you, the number of COVID deaths under 50 in the US is only 0.008 %.

ROFL, do you realize what you just said? Sure, I have had my fair share of one-night stands. I've never brandished a Bible afterwards. Trump not only bashes Bibles, he also grifts them. A book he cannot even quote a single phrase of. It's not only Trump's hypocrisy on full display, it is also the self-deception of the Christian right that accepts the dichotomy as somehow normal.

Trump's inaction and maskless rallies during COVID resulted in the needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans. At least Bush and Obama were trying to take out what they regarded as the enemy.

Can you name the felonies Biden has committed, in your BDS world? You may not have been born yesterday, maybe the day before.

Part of my treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia was a drug called Venetoclax. In Australia, the subsidized medication scheme ( PBS ) meant a month's supply cost AUD 7.50. IIRC Sheryl told me the same drug is USD 7000 per month in America, and it was not available in Thailand. That was about 18 months ago, treatment options may have changed in Thailand. I doubt the costs have.

To AI or not to AI, the ongoing debate...
Lacessit replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
To me, intelligence is intelligence, it doesn't matter if it is AI or HI. The only caveat I would have is AI is not omniscient, it's only as good as the "facts" it is given. -

AFAIK the Australian government does not mine and sell coal, private enterprise does after environmental approvals. I don't waste my time doing things that are pointless, except perhaps responding to trolls on ASEAN. -

IIRC you claimed EV batteries did not contain environmentally toxic elements such as nickel, cobalt, fluorine and aluminium. It doesn't matter which source I go to, Google or Gemini, this is what I get: Here's a table summarizing the typical elemental composition of a Li-ion battery: Component Elements Anode Lithium (Li), Carbon (C) Cathode Lithium (Li), Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni), Manganese (Mn), Aluminum (Al) Electrolyte Lithium (Li), Fluorine (F), Carbon (C) Separator Carbon (C) (polypropylene) Current Collectors Copper (Cu), Aluminum (Al) True, LiFePO4 batteries do not have the NMC cathode. However, they still have environmentally toxic fluorine in the electrolyte, plus aluminium and phosphorus. IMO your claim in the face of that evidence is stupid and factually inaccurate. -

JHC, you really must bruise yourself jumping to conclusions. My 45 years experience was in Australia, in diverse fields such as detergents, polymers, glass, mining and steel. I did work here in Thailand as a technical consultant for some weeks, it was one of the experiences influencing my decision to retire here. -

I never said I was 45 years in the lithium battery industry. I said industry, period. I suggest you brush up on your reading and comprehension skills. -

45 years in industry, I never saw one that was not generating emissions, effluent or solid waste. When you find one, let me know. -

To some, EV's are a religion. Like all religions, sceptics and infidels are not tolerated. -

Disagree. Any idiot can make a profit if they can get away with flushing unwanted materials in recycling down the sewer, or sending to landfill. It's when the recycling becomes a closed loop, with zero emissions, that the costs of recovery soar. 99% of the lead in lead - acid batteries is recycled. What do you think they do with the spent acid? That's a far less complex system than lithium. -

You just don't get it, do you? It's a question of scale. In my younger days as a chemist, I synthesized nitroglycerine. About 0.5 millilitres of it. i followed the instructions exactly. That does not mean I felt competent or experienced enough to start making litres of it. The deflection seems to be coming from you. In referring to Li-ion fires, where I am specifically asking if you have fought a EV fire. I doubt you ever have, because I am reasonably sure you would be describing the experience in detail. -

Yes you did. There's a bit of a difference between a p!ssant lithium battery in a smartphone, and the 75 kWh a Tesla is packing. That's where my BS radar is on full alert. -

Yeah right, we all know what environmental warriors the Chinese are, given they are building 95% of new coal-fired generators. -

According to the stats, an EV fire is 60 times less likely to occur than an ICE fire. Another stat says EV's worldwide are 18% of vehicles in 2023. IMO it's fair to assume older vehicles are more prone to fires. Those three facts cause me to doubt your statement you have "lots of experience". Anyone can make claims behind a keyboard. -

You fail to answer my question: Have you extinguished an EV fire yourself? Until you do, your extensive experience in fire fighting means nothing. Please do some proofreading of your posts. I don't think you meant to say "almost 40 years of hands on real INEXPERIENCE". Have a good day, and try not to embarrass yourself further. -

n Indeed. Tell me what is wrong with asking what contractual obligations BYD have to take back EV batteries at the end of their service life. I have worked in 5 different industries over 45 years. They all had one thing in common, their breaches of environmental obligations, to the point some crossed the line into criminality. Several even had the regulatory authorities colluding with them. If you believe a Chinese car manufacturer or offshoot battery recycling operation is going to be squeaky clean with 100% compliance, there's a bridge in Sydney Harbor I'd like to sell you.
