I think you'll find the staggeringly high case numbers, in proportion, are coming from the unvaccinated. To me, it's not about infection. It's about overloaded hospital facilities. Sinovac may be sub-par in terms of preventing infection, but the data is saying hospitalisation is far less likely. If you are in a city which is in rigid lockdown, and you get infected, it's quite possible you survive in your apartment and the case is not even registered.

The issue is not about how many infections occur, that's a given with a new variant. It's about how many people become seriously ill and require hospitalisation. The data is saying unvaccinated people are far more likely to end up in hospital, or need an ICU. I was vaccinated with Sinovac in early August. Followup with AZ early September. Caught what I assume was the Delta variant in early October. 3 days of a sore throat and runny nose, finish. No after-effects. The data was saying while Sinovac was like tossing a coin in terms of preventing infection, it was much more effective with respect to preventing serious illness. I'm a scientist, I follow the data. At that time, due to bureaucratic delays, other vaccines such as Moderna and Pfizer were as scarce as hen's teeth in Thailand. I took what I could get, because I am in the most vulnerable age cohort, and waiting for months for alternatives would have been stupid. I had myself tested for COVID antibodies two weeks after the AZ jab, 64 U/mL. I'm not a cheerleader for Sinovac. Having said that, I believe the Sinovac/AZ combination shielded me from far worse outcomes. Those consequences include long COVID, which is well documented. No, the real problem is one of accepting responsibility for one's actions. You don't want to be vaccinated? Fine by me. Just don't expect free treatment in the public hospitals you clog up. Perhaps you should be asking them to show you the applicable regulation. My understanding is the bankbook must be updated on the day the extension is applied for, but the bank letter can be anything up to 3 days old. That's the way it has always worked at CM and CR Immigration, although IO's are well known for making up the rules as they go. Why wouldn't you ask the bank to postdate the letter so it matches with the date you apply? It's no skin off their nose.

Vaccinations don't prevent one getting infected, I am living proof. What they do is prevent one getting seriously ill. Your concept of the strains being killed off by the vax is an entirely false premise. They may be supplanted by more infectious strains, that's what viruses do. Omicron has supplanted delta, but that certainly does not mean delta is extinguished. Viruses mutate, and vaccinations have to keep up with them. That's what happens with flu, just about every year flu vaccines are modified. The big difference is that flu is usually over in two weeks, vaccine or no vaccine. COVID is far more dangerous than that for some.

Speaking of standing up, I understand you are or were a male nurse. You have colleagues worldwide who are under the pump, dealing with a pandemic, exhausted and stressed. They are that way because the majority of their patients crowding out non-Covid patients are unvaccinated idiots. Obviously, you don't feel any solidarity with the profession you have chosen.

I can understand many people don't trust the government, I don't either. Having said that, conflating sound medical advice with statements coming from politicians whose only focus is getting re-elected is dishonest and misleading. Choices have consequences. If one chooses to be unvaccinated, there are organisations who will discriminate against such people, if only to protect themselves. Can you imagine the legal liabilities an aged care facility would create for itself if it let unvaccinated staff tend to the residents? If you don't want to be threatened with a stick, what sort of carrot do you suggest governments use? What sort of message would that send to the majority of people who acted responsibly?
