It's COLD in April-the hottest month of the year
Lacessit replied to pkspeaker's topic in General Topics
You have zero understanding of the facts of climate science, which are based on observation. Fact 1. Carbon dioxide levels have been increasing steadily since the Industrial Revolution. Fact 2. Sea temperature is rising, coral bleaching is increasing worldwide. Fact 3. The Larsen Ice Shelf is melting at unprecedented rates. Fact 4. The Vatnajokull Ice Cap has lost 400 sq km of its surface area. Fact 5. About 13,000 sq km of the Amazon rain forest was deforested in 2020-2021. Fact 6. Natural gas is just as polluting as coal. When it comes out of the ground, it contains up to 30% carbon dioxide. Fact 7. The intensity of storms worldwide is increasing, a demonstration of the First Law of Thermodynamics. I won't bother going into what albedo and clathrates mean to climate science, you just don't want to understand. Classic climate change denier, goodbye. -
This is what the kleptomaniac Putin really wants: This is why Ukraine matters. It is the second largest country by area in Europe by area and has a population of over 40 million - more than Poland. Ukraine ranks: 1st in Europe in proven recoverable reserves of uranium ores; 2nd place in Europe and 10th place in the world in terms of titanium ore reserves; 2nd place in the world in terms of explored reserves of manganese ores (2.3 billion tons, or 12% of the world's reserves); 2nd largest iron ore reserves in the world (30 billion tons); 2nd place in Europe in terms of mercury ore reserves; 3rd place in Europe (13th place in the world) in shale gas reserves (22 trillion cubic meters) 4th in the world by the total value of natural resources; 7th place in the world in coal reserves (33.9 billion tons) Ukraine is an important agricultural country: 1st in Europe in terms of arable land area; 3rd place in the world by the area of black soil (25% of world's volume); 1st place in the world in exports of sunflower and sunflower oil; 2nd place in the world in barley production and 4th place in barley exports; 3rd largest producer and 4th largest exporter of corn in the world; 4th largest producer of potatoes in the world; 5th largest rye producer in the world; 5th place in the world in bee production (75,000 tons); 8th place in the world in wheat exports; 9th place in the world in the production of chicken eggs; 16th place in the world in cheese exports. Ukraine can meet the food needs of 600 million people. Ukraine is an important industrialised country: 1st in Europe in ammonia production; Europe's 2nd’s and the world’s 4th largest natural gas pipeline system; 3rd largest in Europe and 8th largest in the world in terms of installed capacity of nuclear power plants; 3rd place in Europe and 11th in the world in terms of rail network length (21,700 km); 3rd place in the world (after the U.S. and France) in production of locators and locating equipment; 3rd largest iron exporter in the world 4th largest exporter of turbines for nuclear power plants in the world; 4th world's largest manufacturer of rocket launchers; 4th place in the world in clay exports 4th place in the world in titanium exports 8th place in the world in exports of ores and concentrates; 9th place in the world in exports of defence industry products; 10th largest steel producer in the world (32.4 million tons). Ukraine matters. That is why its independence is important to the rest of the world.

Is proof of a negative ATK test required prior to boarding aircraft for domestic travel within Thailand? Planning to travel return Chiang Rai - Suvarnabhumi after Songkhran. Thanks.

positive experience with local blood testing lab

It just says you can use Google, and cherrypick what articles suit you. It's called confirmation bias. Reading through those links carefully, it would appear PSA testing is not recommended for men older than 70, or under 55. Mainly because it may lead to painful biopsies which either turn up nothing, or cancers that are so slow -growing the patient will probably die of something else. Those links do not invalidate PSA testing for all situations, it is simply one of the testing tools in a range of techniques. Of course, MRI testing is much more profitable than a PSA test, but that's just me being cynical. -
My policy is always to volunteer as little information as possible to any financial or government body. With data matching, they will soon be able to tell us what we had for dinner last night. To keep an account active, my method is to make a small purchase on Amazon, Lazada or the like every month or so.

Quote me the 4 Laws of Thermodynamics without resorting to Google. They are facts as well, and no-one has succeeded in trashing them. They are the key drivers of anthropogenic climate change. There are others, it is not just CO2 alone. I suppose you would say gravity is a theory too. That works very well until you step off the balcony of the fourteenth floor of a condo, and become strawberry jam in a few seconds after gravity takes over. -

Have cooling here, have to have heating somewhere else. Check out heat patterns in Australia over the last few years. -
My desktop is reasonably recent, did an upgrade 6 months ago when the SSD decided to go doolally. My laptop would be 8 or 9 years old. I don't do any gaming at all, I prefer real life activity. I'm retired, so work is not an issue. Microsoft did a great marketing job to the vast majority of businesses, I'll give them that. Linux does everything I want on both systems, like you why would I change? Horses for courses.

What bugs? Linux Mint has worked trouble-free for me since the pandemic started, or thereabouts. On a desktop AND a laptop, which is a bit more than good luck. An answer in the English language would be appreciated.
-
Windows may have improved in security. Having said that, when I would boot up my laptop, and then sit around for anything up to twenty minutes while Windows faffed around applying updates and patches, it p$$$ed me off. Usually, Linux Mint takes under a minute for updating. Just did one, 16 seconds.

Now you have me wondering what has happened to the English language.

Could you get people put in jail for 15 years?

No, I don't know how to compile a kernel. I don't need to. I gave up on Windows after they produced the abortion called Vista. I am much less likely to get hacked in Linux Mint. I won't have my system hijacked by Microsoft as it attempts to plaster another patch on its vulnerabilities. Linux is polite enough to ask me first before it upgrades. I do everything in LibreOffice that I would need to do in whatever gee-whiz fatware Microsoft has currently, and guess what - I don't have to pay a cent. I use free online software for compiling and editing videos. Posted courtesy of Linux Mint, which has been my OS for a couple of years. Had Ubuntu prior to that.

My understanding is he was fired. An added reason was the loss of the submarine contract with Australia, Macron was pretty furious about that.

I don't think Zelensky can be accused of bombing hospitals and civilian apartment buildings, although granted prior to the Russian invasion he was fighting an insurgency in the Donbas. I remember a passage from James Clavell's novel Shogun. Toranaga says there are no extenuating circumstances for rebellion against a liege lord, and Blackthorne replies "Unless you win". It's a sign of Russia's desperation Putin is bringing in mercenaries from the Wagner Group to fight in Ukraine. It's also a sign the atrocities will get worse, because mercenaries are not bound by any war conventions.
-
I don't know if the Russian accusation is true, because the Ukrainians are saying it wasn't us. https://thenewdaily.com.au/news/2022/04/02/russian-oil-depot-ablaze/?utm_source=Adestra&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Saturday News - 20220402 Russia launches a war, bombs the living daylights out of multiple cities including hospitals and apartment buildings, and then squeals foul play when they get some back at a strategic asset. Reminds me of when the RAF raided Berlin, or Doolittle bombed Tokyo from aircraft carriers. What are those guys smoking in Moscow? It's a war, you expect your opponents to sit on their hands when it comes to your own soil?

I understand it is called look over there.

Any tips on buying a used car in Thailand?
Lacessit replied to jonyboatus's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I bought a Mazda 2 2018 secondhand two years ago. Brilliant small car, one of the few to avoid the CVT fashion. It had 18,000 km on the odometer. Bought it at ExpatAuto. With the fruit salad it had on it, RRP new was 600,000 baht. I paid 440,000 baht. What's not to like about saving 160,000 baht on a car that is barely run in? -
I can't recall saying there was money in Mensa. Do you measure how smart someone is on how much money they make? That's as shallow as a mud puddle. I assume the Premier League is the place where players are paid grotesque amounts of money to strike a round ball with their feet and heads, and practice their diving skills.

Any tips on buying a used car in Thailand?
Lacessit replied to jonyboatus's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Be aware of the following pitfalls: Winding back odometers is a national sport in Thailand. The floods in Bangkok in 2011 created quite a few rustbucket cars. Some Asians service their cars regularly, others regard it as an unnecessary expense. In general, foreigners are more likely to observe servicing intervals, and do not ignore warning lights on the basis it might go away. I also recommend Expat Auto in Chiang Mai. The other option is ToyotaSure, the used car arm of most Toyota dealerships here. -
This is a quite detailed discussion of the EV recharging options, I assume the same physics apply in Thailand.
