  1. Two 'confused' icons under your posts I'll add a third 😅
  2. I was writing for readers in general. Remember, it's not all about you....
  3. Police taking tea money for an infringement that didn't take place is common here. You change lanes 5 or 10 metres before a solid white line starts on a road but they magically see you doing it 5 or 10 metres later. They station themselves at likely spots to pay for their anticipated soapy massages for the next week. If they threaten to hold onto your license until you reach the police station demand it back on the spot, it's just another form of pressure for you to hand over a bit of cash. They won't write a ticket if they even get 200 Baht out of you. Just negotiate calmly and with humour.
  4. I live in Asia and subscribe to a UK IPTV service for £70 every year, for a lot of years now. Their small app is loaded (by me) onto my set top box (no extra charge) and I watch all UK/US and other channels including all SKY channels and all PPV sports events, no VPN needed. I've always found the idea of fully loaded boxes a bit naff. I won't name the service as they keep a low profile, no website and communication on a few private social media channels. They have many subscribers so it's personal recommendations only. That's how they avoided the huge takedown of IPTV sellers a few years ago. I don't think they accept new subs from set top box users now as there can be a security problem through leaking MAC addresses on bad setups, but using the app on Firestick or smart TV is fine. Sorry I won't recommend them here, but find one of these that's been operating for a few years and you'll be set.
  5. Hah, yes but it's not water with beer!
  6. The only reason I can think of for having a prepaid credit card (in effect just a debit card) is that I believe some online sellers only accept credit cards although I haven't found one in a long while, even airlines accept straight debit cards these days. Also do you get some extra insurance on the purchase?
  7. That 'fat Brit' was German, idiot.
  8. This 'don't ever buy' thing makes me laugh. 10 years rental of a 3 bed 3 bath pool villa would have cost me around 3 million baht. I bought the house instead at a good price of 4.5 million (market was higher but seller was a son working out parents' probate) . I'm quids in. 😂
  9. Wen Obama says 'it's going to be close ', you know it means currently they expect to lose.
  10. Duh. Because I can. I like the taste of both beer and water. I drink both, but not in one glass.
  11. Which weirdo is posting a confused face on almost every post here?
  12. I could accept 'cocaine fuelled', but not 'cannabis fuelled'. Cannabis is not fuel, in fact just the opposite.
  13. That muted both as they were engaging in a long to and fro which stopped other matters being raised, actually. But yes, the moderators showed a clear anti-Republican bias during the debate.
  14. This is a very old matter, he should have known this before he emigrated, I did years ago. There is a cross-party committee in the UK parliament dedicated to changing this policy. It was only established in 2023 so it's early days, cross fingers.
  15. If you want it same day you pay 500 Baht and get it issued in the small rooms behind the building. Go to the photocopy room first.
  16. And you lose when it falls. Swings and roundabouts. Not a reason to keep 800k in country year on year.
  17. Talk dirty to them? It just reads like a personals ad. 555
  18. Drinking high strength, tooth enamel-peeling farm cider in the West Country we used to add a gin top to make it a little more 'dry'.
  19. People who can't afford to bring in 65k a month will have 800k in country? They're fools if they do. I would never have more cash in Thailand than I need to live on. An agent is the only answer for them.
  20. I don't know why your comment attracted three 'confused' comments. It's completely correct. There's nothing at all that people who have to bring in a regular amount each month can do. Just bite the bullet and wait for the rate to reverse. Some people are just dense....
  21. I was married very happily to a western woman for 45 years and we lived in Thailand for 8 happy years until she died. But there's not another one I would choose, and I knew that even before I left the West. So your comment actually means nothing.
  22. As others here, I've used my Thai D/L to check into hotels from 2 to 4 star for 10 years. There may be hotels that don't accept it but I've yet to find one.
  23. The know-alls here telling us about how to beat a riptide don't seem to know the difference between a riptide in a calm-looking sea and the very heavy seas which have killed people in Phuket recently. 🫣
  24. My wife had to wear nappies for the last few months of her life. Not a pleasant task to change them but love is a powerful thing. I wish I was still doing it.
  25. My wife of over 45 years died last year. I'm content alone at home but understand I must force myself to go out and socialise, at least with a few friends. It's proven that mental health is affected by constant isolation, even if I feel fine at home alone with my memories right now.
