For a country of approx 70 million to come 5th globally in terms of amount of plastic rubbish produced is really quite an achievement; but not an achievement to be proud of.

The only way that this is going to change is by changing public behavior and that means taxing the manufactures of plastic bags and also charging for the plastic bags at the point of sale. In addition there needs to be a much more joined up waste disposal service across the entire country. Most trash is fly tipped as small towns, villages have no waste services at all. This needs addressing at its simplest this would be a village collection point for villagers to take rubbish for sorting and collection - something the village fund should be used for and supported by governments at a local and national level.

And of all else fails - just remove the plastic packaging at BIG C etc before you leave the store as these good folks did!

Spot on! Have a give away of cloth carry bags 1 to a customer. Then stop giving away plastic bags. Followed by if you must have a bag 5 baht each.

Teach the markets etc. If all can fit in one bag without damage don’t

give four. It needs to be taught and keep up with it.

Straws I’ve never used bottle or can.... get rid of them or charge if wanted. Hit them in the wallet it will help to slow it down

  2. You may want to look into school requirements regular vs. international school. You may not have a choice depending on regulation.

A friend US citizen lived in China he and wife had a daughter. They excitedly rushed to get her US citizenship based on fathers. When

old enough to start school she could speak both Chinese and English.

Tried enrolling her in Chinese regular school and was not allowed

because of citizenship. Only choice was Intl school as you can see its

costly pre school $15,000 USD  , Kindergarten $19,000 yearly which breaks down to $1583.00 USD a month .... kindergarten.

Its aburden for a lot of parents.

AUS that plan was to live in China until child was out of school.

Said If your planning staying in country don’t rush to apply

    for foreign citizenship

  3. The autopsy should show cause as it could be any of the ones mentioned. Unfortunate I didn’t someone was near him didn’t take a look to make sure he was Ok.

Maybe he didn’t have a wallet or dropped it somewhere ......

Seems a lot of people are gun shy to help because of possible legal

reasons. It’s  that way in the US not sure about here.

yesterday driving down the road a elderly man must of lost control of his moto was laying facedown on the ground. A man was signaling not

to go over and see about him. I could tell he was breathing rather hard.

luckily the hospital is two bloacks away and a ambulance truck showed up

I had something happen at my sons school a while back. I was faced with several options.

    1. Do nothing.

    2. Complain to the school, which my son begged me not to do.

    3. Complain to the cops. yeah, right.

    4. Visit the teacher and explain my point of view.

I went with option 4. It was a valuable though painful lesson for the teacher, who never abused a child in his class ever again. At least not while my son was there.

Too many of them think they are untouchable. Do nothing and that mind set will continue.

Whatever you decide to do, do it in such a way the teacher will be too scared to ever even think of doing it again.

4 Ian good advise..... also round table with teacher or teachers on what  be more constructive. Also if a child is causing issues tell them to contact you ....

  5. I living in th country maybe get to the big city (Udon Thani) every 4-5 weeks. It makes the things you buy at Villa Market all that more special.

They’ve lots of cheese good beef etc. Yes it’s more but it’s ok you just ration yourself.

US /EU to Bangkok should be ok. Wonder what would happen if you were going to OZ with Cheese. Customs pulled me to the side and had a good yap at me.  Do you have any food? No. Out come hard candies individual pack. Saiid that’s not food it’s candy. A few more yaps then off I went.

From China to LAX they gave you a sandwich just before landing. Wasnt

hungry so saved it....go in the line  but but but...

  6. Stick up the arse most times doesn’t literally that......an expression

shall we say. But  Musk thought it was literal and I forgot how he

termed it but much like some egineers a more detailed term.

Musk probably doesn’t get anyone telling him to stick it...

Had a a double E electrical aerospace engineer in our office very talented. Made the mistake idle chit chat I wonder how that the water Dispenser heats the water.... 1 hour later (literally) Never asked again.

Hope the two could sit down over a beer say each of us messed up

    move on lesson learned.

  7. You can buy a new IPad older version for very low prices. Try AIS they will get one for you and not much of an uptick or order Apple on line

  8. Difcult to understand why go so far to say such. Yes it was wrong and Musk has to sort it out......  Maybe he lost it when someone he to stick it. Everybody has lost it well almost everybody. Apologizing might not correct what happened. If not make an arrangement to pay for silence

and dig deep the new find a charity to support..

  9. What are the basic principles of Budddhism for Thailand. I’ve tried researching but so if the information looked to be driven

towards what a westerner thinks. It was more of the persons personal beliefs

  10. - is this your first trip to Asia? If so you may have a little bit of a culture shock.

    - Most can adjust others don’t and head back home it’s too much for them.

    - Things that are easily done in US (I’m from US) may take longer.

    - Have patience, be courteous and respect the culture.Keep your cool all of these will make the road easier.

    - Don’t boast to the point your implying your / your country is better etc.

    - It’s ok to be proud of your country and respect their proud of theirs. It’s good you’ve lived in different cities so you understand places have differences.

    - Be cautious when drinking or whatever. Police can stop you and if suspicious they’ll make to take a piss test. In the States marijuana is legal or misdemeanor in most states. Not here. Aake suee you are aware or the basic laws.

    - If you plan on driving get an international driver’s before you leave US. AAA costs @ $25 USD.

    - every country has good and bad. All in all I think Thailand a great place to live. I live in the country and had enough of big cities most of my life.

    - I’ve not really see much if any racism. On the news you may see a bit but is mainly people that did something illegal and the way news describes race.

    - best of luck to you! keep you eyes and ears open and enjoy the experience.

    - close to other countries you can experience. You may want to ask question on visa requirements ie leaving and coming back to Thailand. Ubonjoe on forum is very informative I consider him as an expert.

Is that why he got demoted to Phayao, too efficient!!

I heard or read it was because he couldn’t get along with others ......which aka he wasn’t a YES Man....and bowed to their command.  looked like he was well organized during the rescue

  12. A friend from US and I looked into marketing kit cars to China. He builds them in US and wanted  to set up assembly shop and sales room in China. Had a Chinese investor. A lot of Chinese have money and would

easily sell as a show off car....

The difficulty was getting government bodies approval as they’d have to

be cccc certified. Or the other option would be black market but the risk isn’t worth the reward.

Cobra would have been marketed at $150,000 USD base price.

I’m not a fan of kit cars. When people say buy a fake Rolex ... I’m like why would I want to buy a fake.

Never looked into the Thailand market but certification would probably be an issue..

    1.  TMB and Krungsri ATMs allow 30K...I think Citibank does also.  All other Thai bank ATMs offer a max of 25K or 20K...like Bangkok Bank ATMs are 25K.  Keep in mind the limit set by your card-issuing bank also comes in to play....say your card-issuing bank only allows a Bt20K equivalent in your home currency, if you try to ask for more the ATM will receive a disapproval from your card-issuing bank and the ATM transaction fails.

    2.   I think they are all Bt220, expect AEON ATMs which is Bt150 but a max 20K withdrawal.

    3.   Yes you can do a counter withdrawal at many branches with practically no limit.  The only limit is the limit set by your card-issuing bank.   Most banks will not charge a fee for a counter withdrawal, but Krungsri back around Oct 17 started charging a Bt200 fee for a counter withdrawal.  And I think SCB will only do a counter withdrawal if you accept a Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) transaction which means you do not get the full Visa/Mastercard rate but instead an approx 3% lower rate set by SCB for such transaction.  You'll just need to ask the branch about any fee before doing the transaction.

Keep in mind if your card-issuing bank applies a foreign transaction fee, like how many banks charge a 1 to 3% fee, that fee still applies for a counter or ATM withdrawal.

Summed up well. One thing you want to check if withdrawing from a credit card. My bank charges the interest higher for credit card withdrawals and no graceful period. Interest starts adding up immediately
