  1. Just tell the landlord that the withheld deposit is the full limit of your liability per the contract, and you will be contacting the tax people to ensure that he's declaring all his rental income. That may make him back off. Nobody wants the tax people looking at their affairs.
  2. I find it useful to keep the ID card in my wallet for Hotels, Post Office, Hospital etc. Sometimes get the Thai rate for entrance to some places. Worth having, definitely.
  3. If it's obvious you are travelling together the people directing the traffic normally direct you both to the Thai immigration desks.
  4. Look near the universities. Plenty of condos for rent in those areas. Mostly student tenants though.
  5. We used EVA from BKK to LHR return, back end of last year. Don’t recall what aircraft it was, but it was comfortable and the level of service was OK. Only issue was having to wear a face mask during the flight but that I understand was a Taiwanese rule, that the airlines had to comply with.
  6. I hope they keep a few in museums, because I don’t think many will survive against modern warfare equipment. Would be a shame to loose part of history on a battlefield.
  7. I guess the easy answer is alert security or the police. That’s what they are there for. Tough call to make though.
  8. We used to take ours to a guy that does recycling in our area. For the 1 Baht a bottle you get it's not really worth the effort, so we leave the full boxes of empty bottles out for the rubbish collection team, who I'm sure store and sell them on in bulk after a while, so they are recycled via that route.
  9. I think I’d be too busy to pay the rent until he registers the TM30. Just a thought.
  10. We’ve flown in ( I think Canada was the originating destination) and we had 7 large to medium suitcases, plus hand baggage and there was no interest from customs at Bangkok as we passed through.
  11. I think the contractor used the finest balsa wood available, however lack of maintenance has also had a role to play !! ????
  12. I transfer money into my Wise account….maybe an hour to do that, then a few seconds generally to make the home currency transfer to my Kasikorn account. Seems pretty efficient.
  13. I think in reality the mass produced beer and craft beers are at different ends of the market spectrum. I don’t think it will impact the big breweries to any major degree. Just my view.
  14. No action required. Immigration do not check 90 day stamps on exit, and you are allowed a 7 day grace after the “due” date. start a new 90 day countdown the day you arrive back. enjoy your trip.
  15. I think it’s a good step. Perhaps all police should be initially independently tested , then a random selection across the force say monthly going forward be made and independently tested. Depends how serious they are about preventing drugs in the BIB. Just a thought.
  16. I transfer £s from my UK bank to Wise, and then execute a transfer to Kasikorn in Thb from Wise. Very quick and the fees are transparent, as is the rate they use. I can transfer direct from my UK bank to Kasikorn, which is a flat fee of £20. However the exchange rate is almost never that close to what Wise transfer at. if I move £s from UK to £s in my Thai bank I do use the bank for £20 fee.
  17. Yes, not really busy, parking is good and they appear very professional. Used them a few times for bits and pieces.
  18. Yes, mild Covid over New Year. 2 x Phizer vaccines and a Moderna booster.
  19. Never had a problem opening bank accounts. I have two, one with SCB and one with Kasikorn. I use Kasikorn for my retirement funds and they produce letters/ statements for immigration there and then on the day of asking at the branch. Haven’t tested this with SCB. I believe for annual statements the Bangkok bank have to order them from head office, so not quite as convenient, but no personal experience of that.
  20. About a year ago I had a colonoscopy at BPH. 18,000 baht from memory. Seemed pretty efficient. Report was available in 2 days.
  21. SCB, Kasikorn and Bangkok Bank are the three that I know are on the Wise list.
  22. My wife applied first week of June for a standard visitor visa. She asked how long the lead time was and VFS told her, “expect 12 weeks”
  23. I think the big queues this week were due to immigration being closed 3 days last week. I did my 90 day report on Monday PM, and saw the huge queue. If Q Que is up and running again, that may help on busy days.
