Jury finds Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll in civil case
LosLobo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Trump usually weaponizes his big mouth against his opponents and the law, but in this case, it seems he has shot himself in the foot. A video with his statement from the NY Fraud case about the value of 'Mar a Lardo's billions' was entered as evidence into the E Jean Carroll defamation. Defamation damages can be determined on the defendant's ability to pay and now it seems the sky may be the limit. Trump also stated in court that he has no intention of stopping his defamation. I suggest the Judge Kaplin may set significant punitive damages to stop him from doing so. Trump's abusive rhetoric has been his sword, yet he continually falls on it. -
After Trump’s NH win, Biden gets the opponent he wants

The big gamble GOP are about to take on Trump 'Despite Trump polling relatively well right now, his electoral track record is unmistakably poor: He lost the popular vote in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. His party lost the popular vote in the 2018 midterm elections by the largest margin since the 1980s. When Republicans lost the Senate after the 2020 election, Trump became the first president since Herbert Hoover to lose both chambers of Congress and the presidency in a single term. (Trump recently attacked Haley by saying she would lose all three, ignoring the fact that he himself already had.) The 2022 midterms, in which Trump sought to exert control over his party’s course, was arguably the worst in a century for a party that didn’t control the White House. Trump-backed candidates also routinely underperformed other Republicans.' 4 reasons Trump is a gamble for Republicans - The Washington Post (archive.md)- 175 replies

Perhaps you find someone whose patriarch was Friedrich Drumpf more palatable? You know the wannabe dictator who readily quotes Mein Kampf. The same one who cancelled his attendance at the traditional WWI Cemetery Memorial at U.S. cemetery in France after saying “Why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers.” Perhaps he only wanted to support the country of his heritage.

The monsoon season or the 'wet' in FNQ is typically from November to May. The monsoon season in Thailand varies depending on the coast. On the west coast of Thailand, including areas like Phuket and Krabi, the monsoon season typically lasts from May to October. However, the east coast of Thailand, including islands like Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, experiences its monsoon season a bit differently. These areas begin their monsoon season later in the year, experiencing heavy rainfall from October to December.

An Indonesian Ex had large scars on her abdomen, seemingly from a box jelly after swimming with a friend off Kalimantan, previously Borneo. Sadly, her friend never recovered. Nevertheless, personally, though an avid ocean swimmer, I ignore this improbable potential danger in Thailand and focus more on the roads.

With respect, I thought you would have retired after you achieved 500 superfluous, redundant and unnecessary posts, after well informing us of your point the first time. Yet, Khun Herr Schadenfreude, in the past hour, you have imposed your nonsense on us at least 10 times. Please stop this obsessiveness and perhaps troll a more deserving audience. -

Jury finds Donald Trump sexually abused E. Jean Carroll in civil case

He was found liable, I suggest likely due to a preponderance of evidence from: Credible consistent witness testimony The inference of 450 instances of pleading the fifth A confusing response about never meeting E. Jean Carroll A modus operandi of other sexual assault cases, possibly not advanced because of intimidation His Hollywood access tapes Refusing a DNA test Not personally attending his own trial Obviously, these did not work in Trump's favour with the jury. -

Interesting post.... Tacopina argued that if Carroll’s interactions with Trump upon entering the store were true, they would have been captured on video and "would have significantly corroborated her story." I would suggest that Kaplin, a veteran federal judge with a no-nonsense reputation as with his contemporaries, uses reasoning and logic for adjudication of his cases. Tacopina's argument assumes that because something has not been proven, it must be false. This is an 'Appeal to Ignorance' illogical fallacy. The absence of evidence is not the same as evidence of absence. Possibly this may be one of the reasons why the mis-trial request failed. As you have previously stated 'tough to prove the negative'. The truth in the matter regarding who is lying has already been determined by the jury. Your unwavering support for Trump, despite these facts, brings to mind the ‘Old Man Yells at Cloud’ meme from The Simpsons. -

Are you saying E Jean Carroll is better off now by being raped by Trump, just like African Americans are better off now by being slaves? -
The discussion here is about the Republican presidential debate and Nikki Haley’s decision, not about President Biden’s participation in debates. My post was only to remedy a false off-topic claim and your post continues with that off-topic theme. Additionally, your statement about Biden not participating in any debate since he took office is irrelevant to the current discussion and is a “red herring” illogical fallacy. This occurs when someone introduces irrelevant information into an argument in an attempt to distract others from the topic at hand.

I have lived in many parts of Thailand, the most notable for the worst air quality were Chiang Mai, Bangkok and then Issan. Hua Hin though a great place to live and on the coast, suffered from bad pollution at times. Rural Ranong between Ranong and Chumphon, on the Isthmus of Kra, and Phuket were both very good and comparable. Maybe being in the hills of Ranong with the highest rainfall in Thailand and on the coast in Phuket, certainly would have helped. Though, Phuket did suffer on rare occasions for a few days when Indonesia was burning off to plant oil palm.

Who is the pompous hypocrite here? Remember Biden is the incumbent President, and it is traditional for the incumbent not to participate in primary debate. Even Trump availed himself of this tradition in 2020, yet you would deny the same opportunity for Biden? 'No incumbent president has participated in a primary debate since the first modern debate was held in 1948' except for Ford. No incumbent president has participated in a primary debate since Ford.

OMG, you do go on, but it gives me more opportunity to share with you more detail about how Trump had already tarnished his own image. As you 'only know the jury findings' here are my supporting documents for my comment 'we all know what Trump did', of which you are seemingly oblivious. Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff, were witnesses at this trial and are two 'of the more than two dozen women who have publicly accused Trump of sexual misconduct'. Possibly, I could list those two dozen for you, next time you come back. I suggest Makro is 'Cash & Carry' though it does accept CitiBank. Amex even in the West will not be accepted by a lot of stores, as their fees are too high.

Judge Kaplan’s statement that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape', was made in context. He was not making a legal finding of guilt for the crime of rape. As for your assertion that ‘the jury has the final say’, this is an oversimplification. In the U.S. legal system, judges often play a significant role in interpreting and applying the law and jury verdicts can be appealed. I agree it should be 'case closed' but Trump continues to beat his 'head on a birch tree' with his appeals and further defames his victim. It seems you might be committing the ‘straw man’ fallacy, by misrepresenting my argument as trying to ‘tarnish a person with the word rape when the jury says otherwise’. My point was about the context and interpretation of Judge Kaplan’s statement, not about the jury’s verdict in the case. Also, 91 times indicted criminal defendant, and proven fraudster Trump seems to be able to tarnish his own image unaided which is evident by his previous court cases involving sexual assault. Summer Zervos vs Trump: Zervos, a former contestant on The Apprentice, sued Trump for defamation in 2017, after he denied her claim that he groped and kissed her without consent in 2007. She later withdrew the case. Jane Doe vs Trump and Jeffrey Epstein: Doe, a pseudonym for an anonymous woman, filed a lawsuit in 2016, accusing Trump and Epstein of raping her when she was 13 years old in 1994. She withdrew the lawsuit a few days before the 2016 election, citing threats to her safety. Ivana Trump vs Trump: Ivana, Trump’s first wife, alleged in a divorce deposition in 1990 that Trump had raped her in 1989. She later recanted the allegation and said it was not meant in a literal or criminal sense. She also signed a statement in 2015, saying that she and Trump had a great relationship and that he was not a rapist. Trump, 14th Amendment put Supreme Court on the spot

Interesting.... I was reading an older version of 23-719 this morning and I found this on page 18. 'In 2020, President Trump received more than 74 million votes nationally, and more than 1.3 million votes in Colorado alone, to be re-elected as President of the United States'. This is not on your update. I was thinking the Attorney might have some ethic issues in making false statements to SCOTUS. 20240104135300932_20240103_Trump_v_Anderson__Cert_Petition FINAL.pdf (supremecourt.gov) -

Wrong? I am only repeating the words of the judge Kaplan who wrote 'Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape'.' If he did not say that please provide evidence. You are only squabbling over semantics here, we all know what Trump did. -

Trump was found to have raped E. Jean Carroll. 'The finding that Ms. Carroll failed to prove that she was ‘raped’ within the meaning of the New York Penal Law does not mean that she failed to prove that Mr. Trump ‘raped’ her as many people commonly understand the word ‘rape,’ ” Kaplan wrote. He added: “Indeed, as the evidence at trial recounted below makes clear, the jury found that Mr. Trump in fact did exactly that.”' Judge clarifies: Yes, Trump was found to have raped E.
