Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
LosLobo replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Joe Blogs' take on the war not about the economy this time but recent events. Particularly interesting is Putin's latest Q&A propaganda where he states that: Russia was achieving its goals in the Special Military Operation in Ukraine, and The West is denying the sovereignty of countries and nations, their distinctiveness and uniqueness and disregarding the interests of other states. -
Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital

Your "observation, common sense and independent research" obviously missed Neighbourhood Watch where groups of civil-minded citizens welcomely interfere and help protect their neighbours and their property against criminals like your Putin. Don't you have organisations like that in Russia? -

Watched the just released Episode 3 of The Peripheral last night. Wow, this series is brilliant, and this particular episode scored 8.9 with IMdb. The Peripheral (TV Series 2022– ) - IMDb -
When i was waiting for the presser on TV, I switched to a popular conservative News channel. Without any real information the host was already trying to deflect any culpability from the perpetrator and possible fomenters of violence and let no political opportunity be wasted. He subtly suggested that this sort of crime is commonplace in Democratic cities, the injury must not be serious as the husband was able to call police, the entry door was insecure glass and that there could be blame directed at Pelosi and the Capitol police for poor security. On the other hand, the liberal media are calling for Trump to do a public statement to condemn this type of violence.

Elon Musk reportedly fires top Twitter executives as he takes over company
LosLobo replied to webfact's topic in World News
Musk must be very magnanimous in allowing the Mafioso Don back on Twitter after their recent feud. Obviously, it's the business potential of Trump's 75 million supporters, But will Trump accept the offer from someone and an organisation, that Trump feels have both insulted him? With Trump going back to Twitter, it might also mean the certain death knell of Truth Social which is already struggling to survive. Trump's previous ban from Twitter was its main raison d'être. -

Some interesting news of people who have fell foul of Putin. evidently for some the usual falling from windows or novichok have become outdated. Earlier this month: "Judge Sergey Maslov had investigated family members of Putin’s cronies". This guy is reported to have strangely died in the Kerch Bridge explosion and may possibly have had the explosives in his very large Cadillac. Top Russian judge killed in Crimea bridge explosion after his Cadillac plunged into the sea - World News - Mirror Online A Russian MP has become the latest high-profile energy executive to die since Vladimir Putin launched his brutal war in Ukraine. Russian MP and ex-gas industry executive becomes latest energy official to die since Ukraine war | Daily Mail Online and more recently: "A glamorous Russian socialite whose father was Vladimir Putin's mentor reportedly fled the country on Wednesday morning, just hours before police raided her luxury mansion after she mildly criticised the Ukraine war". Only those who don't wish too much for sleep will find it easily. Embrace the sleeplessness as a blessing and use the time for that project you never had time for or do some studying, maybe learn Thai language online. Try to exercise or walk everyday together with a little meditation. Give up drinking excessive alcohol, sometimes it can have a negative effect and avoid sleep medication except for maybe melatonin. Set up a routine of going to bed same time every night. and try listening to one of those rain or ocean videos from Youtube. Avoid too much TV or screen time close to bedtime. Read a book instead. Periods of sleeplessness are a normal part of life, don't worry too much about it.

House January 6 committee votes to subpoena Trump during Thursday’s hearing
LosLobo replied to Scott's topic in World News
The subpoena was issued by Jan 6th committee yesterday and Trump's legal team have responded. They slammed the committee, I suggest both hypocritically and paradoxically, for making the subpoena public and accused the committee of "flouting norms" with the subpoena. “ -

Seems as though Iran is not only waging a proxy war against Ukraine. They actually have Iranian troops on the ground in Ukraine assisting the Russians launch their drones against Ukraine cities. Iran sent troops to Crimea to help Russia use Iranian-made drones, Biden admin officials say “We assess that Iranian military personnel were on the ground in Crimea and assisted Russia in these operations,” said White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby. Durham Inquiry Appears to Wind Down as Grand Jury Expires

On-going Herpes Medication Available on Social Security?
LosLobo replied to throwawayaccount's topic in Health and Medicine
There have been studies on long term suppressive herpes therapy taken for up to 10 years without any adverse effects. Valacyclovir for Herpes Simplex Virus Infection: Long-Term Safety and Sustained Efficacy after 20 Years’ Experience with Acyclovir | The Journal of Infectious Diseases | Oxford Academic (oup.com) Valacyclovir (Valtrex) is better than acyclovir for treating herpes because of is its higher level of oral bioavailability. "Acyclovir is almost completely broken down by the liver when taken orally, whereas valacyclovir has an oral bioavailability level of approximately 55%. This means that more of the drug makes it into your body, helping to control a herpes outbreak and reduce your risk of transmitting the virus". Durham Inquiry Appears to Wind Down as Grand Jury Expires

The Durham enquiry turned up no evidence to support Trump lies that the FBI or other agencies conspired to de-rail Trump's presidency. Obviously, because the Trump Campaign did conspire with the Russians, QED! Jury acquits an analyst of lying to the FBI over the 'Steele dossier' "Despite hopes by Trump supporters that the prosecutor would uncover a sweeping conspiracy within the FBI and other agencies to derail his candidacy, and then his presidency, the investigation over the course of more than three years failed to produce evidence that met those expectations. The sole conviction — an FBI agent admitted altering an email related to the surveillance of a former Trump aide — was for conduct uncovered not by Durham but by the Justice Department's inspector general, and the two cases that Durham took to trials ended in across-the-board acquittals". Close up of Iranian drone used by Russians, evidently a lot of the components are western sourced. Obviously, the West needs harsher sanctions against this despot regime. Also, McCarthy warns "no blank check" to Ukraine if GOP wins the House. Also, with the IPSOS/Reuters latest poll reporting that 73% of Americans say that the US should continue to support Ukraine, I suggest he is pushing a losing policy. -

The S-400 Air Defence Missile System costing USD 300 million apiece wasn't very successful against a little 100k HiMARS missile. I would suggest that replacing this high-tech behemoth might be difficult now with the shortage of western chips and hardware. This Russians had high expectations for export of this baby. now proven to be a dud against western technology. This is obviously a win/win for Ukraine against Russian not only militarily but also economically. -

House January 6 committee votes to subpoena Trump during Thursday’s hearing

I think the problem boils down to the fact that you are unable or unwilling to engage in honest debate. On this forum, like in the rest of the world, beside opinions, facts still do matter. TBH, if you state something as fact you do not always include a link and if prompted to do so, it is can sometimes be irrelevant and inaccurate. -

I think you may be using the word "citizen" loosely or in jest when you are referring to Trump. He is not POTUS anymore and as such has no presidential immunity from the law, but the responsibilities and obligations of a US citizen are to: Support and defend the Constitution. Participate in the democratic process. Respect and obey federal, state, and local laws. Respect the rights, beliefs, and opinions of others including respect the different, ethnic groups, cultures, and religions, Pay income and other taxes honestly, and on time, to federal, state, and local authorities. Defend the country if the need should arise including servicing military service when required. What are your rights and responsibilities as an American citizen? - COSAction (conventionofstates.com) -
House January 6 committee votes to subpoena Trump during Thursday’s hearing
LosLobo replied to Scott's topic in World News
I suggest that any offer of attendance would be to please his supporters. I also doubt if he would go, as testifying under oath would make him accountable for what he says and being responsible for his rhetoric is anathema to him. Trump has no boundaries and rules mean nothing to him. If you remember his debate with Biden in 2020, he completely ignored the moderator and the rules that he had signed up for. He entered the debate venue without a mask and without a COVID test, knowing that he had contracted COVID some days beforehand. I would also suggest that the hearings are conducted similar to formal court proceedings as these hearings are a precursor to possible formal criminal charges in court. In court, the defendants and witnesses are not there to have a discussion or debate but to only answer when spoken to. A dead switch on the microphone would resolve any outbursts from a recalcitrant Trump who may suffer further charges for contempt.
