  1. Tempted to report this as spam, but on the off chance that you're trying to be funny, what would such a "short break" from Thailand to Costa Rica (of all places) cost you and how much time would you spend on a plane?
  2. It's your responsibility to check the stamp you get upon arrival. That being said, if you go to immigration, chances are they'll fix it for you and make it 60 days.
  3. If true, that's just a "local rule" of that particular border crossing to allow a quick out-in border bounce. It's obviously a good idea to follow whatever guidance the border run company provides you with, even if this particular rule sounds nonsensical.
  4. That's the only question I can answer with confidence. Foreigners can use those automated gates for departure only. The idea was to move more IOs to arrivals as a result, so both should be smoother.
  5. Hopefully that will deter other vile pieces of work from doing the same.
  6. Seriously, you tried to argue "the law" with Cambodian officials? Ridiculous.
  7. Based on what would you be applying, do you have a Thai wife or Thai children? Otherwise you can only get another 30 days, added to your initial 30 days given when you entered. In either case, depending on your local immigration office, you can usually apply a couple of weeks before your permission to stay expires. There are some exceptions though, someone might be able to advice if you let us know where you plan to apply.
  8. Why even go through the charade of holding an election then, if the sitting president has "total immunity" no matter what he does to secure the outcome he wants? It would be pointless. Which is why, NO, the president shouldn't have "total immunity".
  9. It's a good and relatively quiet border crossing, and yes, nearest to Koh Chang. For the Cambodian eVisa, the address of a hotel in Koh Kong (such as for example, Apex or Natthy) would be suitable. Please be aware that Cambodian immigration will probably charge you an extra fee (typically about 300 baht) to allow you to return to Thailand on the same day. That's pretty much standard, as officially, you are required to stay overnight.
  10. Yes to both. If you want to stay 5 years in a row without leaving the country, that's fine, but you do need to get an extension at your local immigration office once per year.
  11. There is (or used to be) an alert for IOs after 6 visa exempt entries, meant to signal to the IO that this is a frequent visitor under the visa exempt scheme who needs extra scrutiny. There was never a hard limit, however, and your example proves just that, as they let you in after you gave them a satisfactory explanation.
  12. With a METV and after 3 weeks out, you shouldn't be suspected of using that visa "improperly". So you'd probably be alright at the Bangkok airports, but Chiang Mai is the best option.
  13. Sounds like trash to me. I think when it comes to Thai movies, I'll stick to scary ghost movies.
  14. Come again? A regular tourist visa that allows a stay of 60 days can already be extended by 30 days, for a total of 90 days. What's the benefit of that "special visa"?
  15. Maybe his government will buy him a ticket back, if he volunteers to join the army. I'm hearing they could use some more soldiers, so it makes little sense to let him stay in Thailand, broke and stuck and vandalizing police stations.
  16. I couldn't help but think along the same lines. Oh the irony. That's something guys on a "marriage visa" should always consider anyway - you're just one divorce away from needing another visa option, too.
  17. The official rule was indeed rescinded, but that doesn't stop some IOs from still using it as a guideline for their scrutinizing of visa exempt entries. In reality, there isn't anything you can do when you encounter such an IO (s/he certainly won't be impressed by a link to the website saying that the rule was rescinded). If anything, being polite has a higher chance of success than being argumentative or coming across as entitled.
  18. Nowadays it's best to avoid any avoidable overstays, as immigration isn't as relaxed about them anymore as they used to be. Personally, I'd either leave on time or get those extra "7 days to leave the country" from immigration.
  19. This really depends on your individual embassy, there's no hard rule. Factors like your age might come into play as well; does the consular officer believe that you likely have the time and the means for long holidays or is it more likely that you (ab)use your extended stays in Thailand to work here illegally.
