Tourist Attacked by Gun-Wielding Taxi Driver in Pattaya
Umlungu replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Same here. After the third ticket they stopped me taking any more. So, in the end, the mafia taxi drivers ended up laughing because they had the monopoly on vehicular transport. Wonder, though, what happens to those taxis whose numbers were discarded by me, but the machine issues sequential numbers, so are they still in the running for a customer? -
Thai Police not sure Norwegian man killed his partner in Chiang Mai
Umlungu replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
"Also, wasn't the title used here a week ago: "Norwegian man murders his Thai boyfriend in Chiang Mai" with several people noting that there should be a presumption of innocence? I guess this latest development proves their point..." Defamatory comment? -
Time for landlords to clamp down on such behaviour by issuing detailed and tough rental contracts, specifying immediate eviction and forfeiture of any security deposit in case of an inspection failing basic standards of cleanliness (24 hours advance notice), failure to pay rent or utilities on time (landlords can monitor electricity accounts on PEA app ,for example) or not conducting a proper return handover of the properrty at the contract conclusion. Security deposit should be up to three monthly rents by now, in line with inflation (deposit amount must correlate with reasonable expenses such as replacement of damaged or stolen items, outstanding rent or utilities for the final (pro-rata) billing period. and labour costs.

Too many of these naive, uneducated so-called influencer types everywhere now. Like a pest. How to pack your bag, tie your shoe laces and travel on a train. One of these folks, a woman, took a night train CM to Bkk and then compained that the sun set almost when leaving the station and she couldn't view the countryside.....

It will be a cultural shock for many German tourists to see how Thailand really looks nowadays. A broken country. A completely rotten railway system with no train on time, city centers occupied by young men from Africa, daily rape and knife murder, and a police, courts and media which all turn a blind eye on that and often even blame the victims, and a government with the most uneducated politicians in the world.

Thai Workers Are A Joke
Umlungu replied to Brewster67's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
Standard procedure and done as per manufacturer instructions. Same everywhere. Cooktop rests on benchtop which is cut out to exact size. Sometimes clamps underneath hold it in place as well. How else would you do it? Install a bracket underneath the cooktop? Never. -

I agree. You're statement is unique and seems out of sync with most others' experience. I think you're telling fibs. -

Second hand car import / lift of ban
Umlungu replied to oustaristocrats's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Thailand essentially prohibits or discourages (enormous import duties) any vehicle importation to protect its own industry. That seems plausible for products that are produced entirely or assembled here. However, vehicles that are not made here therefore don't qualify for any tarif protection and should be allowed to be imported at a reasonable customs duty, not at the extortionate rates applied these days. A classic example is the high in demand Suzuku Jimny which is not produced here and not imported officially by Suzuki, leaving only a few select grey imports selling for just under 2mb. That is ridiculous. I don't think there is any similar product manufactured in Thailand benefiting indirectly from such tarif protection. One could buy it in S Africa, Japan, Australia or Malaysia, but the tarifs just don't make it worth the effort. -
Second hand car import / lift of ban
Umlungu replied to oustaristocrats's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Myanmar has a history of changing over from the British system to the American/continental European system, so there would be a range of lhd and rhd vehicles in the country, both legal. So I don't think there is any connection in that regard to any car importation regulation of whatever kind. -

I think you misinterpreted the original statement/question. In my interpretation the poster meant Thailand as in private businesses, dealerships, private individuals, in the sense that it is made easier, facilitated or encouraged, incurs lower import taxes etc. Those are, of course, government policy decisions. I don't think anyone was equating the word Thailand exclusivelywith the government of Thailand. As to the government and its agencies, of course they wouldn't engage in the importation of used vehicles since they almost certainly get better deals on new cars from the local production. -
Love the lights, stuck to the palm trees. Great wiring too. It's all very smart. Everyone's a winner. Please start on the next beach, Jomtien, Dongtan, etc. This idea has got legs.
