  1. For reference and to put their concerns into perspective (from link to original story):- "If the construction is completed, the factory will receive up to 400 tons of waste per day from all areas of the province, this means heavy volumes of large trucks transporting garbage into the area, about 70 trips per day, which will cause pollution, and toxic fumes and substances affecting the daily life of the people in the region"
  2. I do as I have injured fingers and cannot use the mini touch screens. My old 3G Nokia is ideal for me - just calls and messages via keypads!! Fortunately, the app here in Cambodia is not mandatory and from my experience, is rarely used. Only my bank insists on entry registration using the app or by signing a book. The big supermarkets I shop at, including MAKRO, insist on a facemask, hand sanitization and temperature check but no app registration even though the QR code is displayed. Commonsense in my opinion.
  3. Fortunately Cambodia was proactive and signed up to the COVAX scheme early. Along with associated medical supplies, the Royal Government was able to instigate a comprehensive vaccination program throughout the country, albeit much smaller than Thailand. I recently had my first free jab but not the vaccine I would have preferred, however it is better than nothing and I now possess my vaccination card (very similar to a bank plastic ATM card) to indicate I have been vaccinated. For reference:- "On the evening of 2nd March (2021) .................. Cambodia had just made history as one of the first countries in the world to receive vaccines through the COVAX Facility" https://www.unicef.org/cambodia/stories/cambodia-worlds-first-countries-receive-covax-vaccines
  4. Is he one of those miserable medieval elite????? (You must not have fun or laugh!!!)
  5. With respect, there is no mention of Sinovac in the OP or in the link to the main article. The vaccines mentioned are AZ, Pfizer and Sputnik-5. I bet the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand will not be a happy bunny!!
  6. Would be nice to have a "big" BIG C rather than a mini one.
  7. From Thai media back in December 2020:- In an interview with local media the governor of Khon Kaen has intimated that direct flights between the north eastern Thai city and Vietnam and Singapore are a possibility. Pre-Covid-19, when I was a Tourist Police Volunteer in Khon Kaen, Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Laos were also mentioned along with several Chinese destinations.
  8. A rather harsh outcome for just 3 packs of 200 cigarettes or in reality 600 x 200 packs?????
  9. Oh really!! What if one or all of these countries will not allow people to enter from Thailand????? Burma (Myanmar) comes to mind. Maybe for business people only to conduct cross border trade.
  10. So, all the small family run businesses along the local streets of urban and rural communities are exempt???
  11. An interesting question with replies. I used to be an avid reader of books, fiction and non-fiction, when I lived in Northern Thailand. Over time I built up a comprehensive collection, purchased from the second hand bookshops in Chiang Mai. Most of the novels were fictitious thrillers about British Intelligence all written by Colin Forbes. When I moved to Cambodia, most of my collection housed in 2 book cases I donated to the local ex-pat bar for others to enjoy. My railway books and a few other special selections, including Andrew Morton's block buster book about Princess Diana and Peter Wright's "Spycatcher" (MI5), the Australian edition as the UK one was banned, I sent to Cambodia via Thai Post. Remarkably, the latter two books I purchased from a ramshackle old wooden book shop for 50 baht each!
  12. Yes indeed and when I used to live in Thailand, I still remember the cashier at the local PEA (Provincial Electricity Authority) office near Khon Kaen, sitting in her light brown military style uniform with medal ribbons, epaulettes and other regalia to collect my cash for my electricity bill!! It was the same at the PWA (Provincial Water Authority). In my opinion, quite ridiculous but it is their culture and way of life.
  13. So did I to my local friendly IO, for several years, to obtain my retirement visa extension without most of the bureaucratic financial paperwork. I now live in Cambodia.
  14. For reference (Wikipedia):- APG has two Co-Chairs: one permanent and one two-year term rotating Co-Chair. The permanent Co-Chair is Australia, represented by Deputy Commissioner Ian McCartney (2019), Australian Federal Police, and the current rotating Co-Chair is Malaysia, represented by Mr. Marzunisham Omar (2020), Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia [1]. Members;- (some interesting ones when it comes to money laundering!!) Afghanistan Australia Bangladesh Bhutan Brunei Darussalam Cambodia Canada China Cook Islands Fiji New Zealand Hong Kong India Indonesia South Korea Laos Macau Japan South Korea Maldives Marshall Islands Malaysia Mongolia Myanmar Nauru Niue Pakistan Palau Papua New Guinea Philippines Samoa Singapore Solomon Islands Sri Lanka Taiwan Thailand Timor-Leste Tonga United States Vanuatu Vietnam
  15. Should the color be yellow - referring to the Chinese and not his shirt?? A yellow shirt would be advantageous rather than a red one!!
  16. As a diabetic, especially an insulin dependent one like me, very difficult to get life insurance - if at all! I tried on several occasions when I was living in Thailand without success. I was also refused medical/health insurance. All I could purchase was accident insurance but not here in Cambodia, where I now live, as I am too old at 77 and I was also refused Covid-19 insurance. So now I am uninsured, having to pay, where required, from my personal funds.
  17. Yes indeed and for all Civil Servants at special festivals etc.
