  1. Possibly checking for road tax discs. When I was a Tourist Police Volunteer, on one occasion I joined my colleagues at a checkpoint set up by the Highway Police. Their aim was checking for tax discs, our aim was to assist with advice and deal with enquiries as the checkpoint was on busy Highway 2 towards Nong Khai where tourists and ex-pat Border bouncers were heading for Laos.
  2. For reference (June 3rd 2025) Thai forces have continued to violate Cambodian territory, with the latest incident involving the unauthorised flight of a drone over frontline areas to conduct surveillance on Cambodian military positions. The drone was successfully intercepted by Cambodian troops. Preliminary assessments indicate that the drone was deployed by the Thai military to gather intelligence on the deployment and movement of Cambodian forces. https://www.khmertimeskh.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/Thai-drone-illegally-enters-Cambodian-airspace-intercepted-by-Cambodian-troops.jpg https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501694261/thai-drone-illegally-enters-cambodian-airspace-intercepted-by-cambodian-troops/
  3. Not really. Are you not familiar with Thaksin's anti-drugs stance? Maybe Cannabis will be re-criminalised now that Anutin has been moved - I hope so!
  4. Shame on you Thailand for supporting the Burmese Junta.
  5. With respect, not if she was an alcoholic (perhaps registered as such in her own country)!
  6. Well done. I stopped smoking in 1975 after returning from a holiday on Malta where I picked up a lung infection. My doctor told me if I wanted to get well stop smoking. I did and now 50 years later at 81 years not one cigarette!
  7. Yes I have and not only Thais! That is one reason I do not like ice cubes in my beer. How often have you seen hands diving into the ice bucket to retrieve ice, especially when people get inebriated?
  8. I hope and pray nobody buys these items, leaving the Junta up a financial creek without a paddle!!
  9. There appears to be confusion in the original post as to which police station. I wonder which one? Mae Sot Police Station is in Tak Province whereas Mae Sai Police Station is in Chiang Rai Province
  10. Yes, certainly where I lived up in rural north of Thailand. Often used to take local children to school, family members shopping etc. This stock photo was taken in Narathiwat.
  11. Thanks. Not washing hands, the food itself and preparation surfaces may also have been a cause.
  12. Did he decide to cool down after a pyjama party?
  13. Sadly no, but I can imagine the beauty. I have seen similar orchid displays at the Rajapruek Royal Park in Chiang Mai. Mentioning free entry, I have my residents pass for the Angkor World Heritage site, being a full time foreign resident of Cambodia. I often take a tuk-tuk ride around the temples during opening hours. It can be so refreshing driving in the shade of the trees after a hot and humid day.
  14. Thank you for the much appreciated in-depth explanations. I should have done more research myself. Have an enjoyable day.
  15. With the greatest respect, casinos were never outlawed, only Cambodian citizens from playing in them. There has only been one Government in Cambodia - Hun Sen's Cambodian Peoples Party. There are many such unfinished buildings in Sihanoukville, the result of the original Covid restrictions.
  16. For reference - please note above. 2 reasons why I left Thailand 5 years ago after 20 years in Thailand. No more bureaucratic paperwork, no strict monetary requirements or 90 day reports for a retirement visa. One does not even have to visit an Immigration Office, just an approved visa agent. Cambodia has rebranded its rainy season (April to October) as the "Green Season." This is being well promoted here, especially the mountain area in Mondulkiri Province in the north of the country Even here in Siem Reap, an extensive forest project has been completed at the Angkor Botanical Garden. Being a country bumpkin, these all suit me however I do appreciate there are those of you sex pats whose life revolves around a condo, beer bar with your favourite bar stool and the company of young Thai prostitutes - yuck!! It is all a matter of personal choice.
  17. A genocidal maniac as President? - let us hope he is assassinated before this comes to fruition
  18. Never been a problem for me- Where you come from..................England what your job............ police employee End of harassment and conversation!
  19. With respect, not dangerous but ILLEGAL in Newcastle!
  20. Wait until they take over all the go-go bars and beer bars in Pattaya and convert them to curry restaurants!
  21. Yes, very much so. My first mobile phone was a UK British Telecom model with a base charging unit. It was quite heavy and had to be carried around - too large for most pockets (not unlike todays smartphones!)
  22. If you must know, I have mobility problems with my fingers and thumbs. Some are arthritic and others injured after many years associated with football (soccer). The small touch screens are almost impossible for me to use. A computer keyboard with a mouse is ideal FOR ME. I do not use QR codes, other than TDAC which I print off my computer and present the paper copy with my passport. All my digital and internet business I complete on my computer. My Cambodian bank offers Personal Internet Banking for home and laptop computers. When shopping I use cash or my Visa Debit card. I have a Canon digital camera for taking photos. My choice - no further comment from me.
  23. Easy for me - I use my personal Dell computer. I do not own a smartphone (and never will!)
