For reference. During my 20 years of retirement in Lanna (Phayao/Chiang Rai/Ching Mai), most of the modern rebuilding and improvements of major roads in Lanna were completed during Thaksin Sinawatra's terms as Thai PM. He brought money from Bangkok to invest in many Lanna infrastructure projects which brought agricultural, industrial and tourism wealth to the north of Thailand.

I live in Siem Reap in Cambodia and I try to avoid the crossing from Poipet as it can be horrendous. Cambodian Immigration is usually easy BUT Thai Immigration in Aranyaphratet is dreadful. I had to queue for almost 4 hours at my last visit. If travelling by car, I now use two convenient, easy and quick land border crossings in the north of Cambodia:- O Smach, Samraong Municipality, Cambodia to Chong Chom, Surin Province, Thailand. Choam, Anlong Veng District Cambodia to Chong Sa- Ngam, Sisaket Province, Thailand Please note, at both of these crossings you have to complete a Form T6 to enter Thailand and an Arrival/Departure card to enter Cambodia.

British Man Sparks Outrage in Thai Restaurant Incident
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
As a UK Citizen, sadly I have to agree, BUT the Brits are not the highest consumers of alcohol (reference Google) - Source: Eurostat. The EU country with the biggest share of its population drinking alcohol on a weekly basis is the Netherlands (47.3 per cent), Luxembourg (43.1 per cent), and Belgium (40.8 per cent).Jun 30, 2023 -
Best current domestic air fares Chiang Mai to Suvarnabhumi
Burma Bill replied to scorecard's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Yes, you are correct. Thai Lion Air and NOK Air fly from CNX to DMK (Don Mueang). Thai Viet Jet, Bangkok Airways and THAI Airways fly to BKK (Suvarnabhumi) There are a limited number of flights with Thai Air Asia to BKK, the majority terminating at DMK. https://www.trip.com/flights/airport-cnx-bkk/?locale=en_xx&curr=usd&allianceid=742331&sid=25228287&ppcid=ckid-37194349351_adid-679124870365_akid-kwd-2369073420469_adgid-153771948703&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=2072509 -

Assumption University Criticised Over Myanmar Student's Tragic Death
Burma Bill replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Why didn't someone call the emergency number 1669? Utterly disgraceful - i wonder how much pain the poor lad was experiencing. Again, utterly disgraceful. I hope the Burmese family sue the Thai authorities right up to the hilt! I wish them every success. If the student had been a Thai, his family would be out to grab as much money as they could. Thailand, the hub of money grabbers! RIP young Burmese student and sincere condolences to your family.- 1 reply

Thailand Bars Alcohol Sales on Trains and at Hua Lamphong
Burma Bill replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In recent post covid times, I travelled by train from Don Meaung Old Station to Chiang Mai. The only seat available was in a Third Class train with no refreshment/buffet car. However, throughout the journey, food and drinks (including beer) were available. Various vendors boarded the train selling to customers at their seats. Chilled cans of Beer Chang dispensed from cool boxes were enjoyed by me throughout my journey. No alcohol prohibition law on that particular train! -

No problem here in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Our local MAKRO is well stocked with Skimmed, Low Fat and full cream milk in cartons from Australia.

Thanks and, yes, I agree. Interestingly, there have been several big cannabis busts by UK authorities at Manchester Airport in the north of England with many of the drug couriers arriving from Thailand. For reference: TWO drug mules were caught with 40kg of drugs in their suitcases as they were leaving Manchester Airport after an around-the-world flight.......After hours of air miles from Thailand and a connection in France, the duo were rumbled, and they later admitted a charge of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition on the importation of cannabis. https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/24775511.pair-manchester-airport-40kg-drugs-bangkok-flight/ Last year 26,924kg of cannabis was seized from around 750 smugglers flying into UK airports. This quantity is nearly five times more than the 5,609kg of cannabis seized for the whole of 2023, when 134 suspects were arrested.............In 2024, 430 suspects were arrested at Heathrow Airport where 14,617kg of cannabis was seized. The next worst affected airports were Manchester Airport, where around 135 arrests were made and 4,815kg of cannabis seized, and Birmingham Airport, where 40 arrests were made and 1,410kg cannabis seized..............Of the suspects, 460 were arrested having arrived from Thailand; https://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/news/smugglers-prevented-from-bringing-27-tonnes-of-cannabis-into-the-uk-in-2024#:~:text=In one case last year, its kind at Manchester Airport.

For reference: This construction is part of Rama III – Dao Khanong – Western Bangkok Outer Ring Road project. The third contract was awarded to ITD-VCB Joint Venture, consisting of Italian-Thai Development Pcl and Vichitbhan Construction Co. Ltd., with other contractors including Asian Engineering Consultants Co. Lt, Chotijinda Consultants Co. Ltd. and MAA Consultants Co. Ltd. I see Ital-Thai are involved - very good at wild game hunting but not so good at building bridges!! RIP to those who lost their lives, also sincere condolences to their families. https://thainewsroom.com/2025/03/15/clearing-of-collapsed-under-construction-bridge-to-take-a-week/ Something strange - I can copy and paste the above reference into my post, but when I click "save", entry to the reference is blocked
