  1. U.S. Navy Carrier Strike Group Visits Thailand for Joint Exercises Will any Thai submarines be taking part????
  2. So what? As a Tourist Police Volunteer, I used to help foreigners/tourists off flights carry their luggage to the Taxi Booking desk at Khon Kaen Airport. My Thai colleagues did the same for Thai folk. All part of our service - and free I might add!!
  3. Thanks, but any person passing the house and not knowing the above, might consider them as stupas (chedis/jedis) containing ashes. For reference, my photo of collection of small stupas in a temple in Mandalay, Burma, all containing ashes.(pre latest coup)
  4. Too late mate!!!!
  5. Thanks, my thoughts as well. Aspiring to become Wagner Mercenaries back home - getting some training done??
  6. Yes indeed and for reference: Pattani, also spelled Patani, town, southern Thailand, on the east coast of the Malay Peninsula. The town is located at the mouth of the Pattani River. Pattani was an independent Muslim city-state, ruling a large portion of the surrounding region until the 16th century, when it became a vassal state of Siam (now Thailand). After 1800 it was divided into seven smaller units, which were incorporated as Siamese provinces in the early 20th century. https://www.britannica.com/place/Pattani
  7. How to obtain hassle free Cambodian visas to folk who enquired of me. Places to visit and sights to see in Northern Thailand (with photos) Thai Road, rail and bus travel information etc.
  8. Definitely not a Turkish Delight!!!
  9. From personal experience pre-Covid-19, I took a taxi from Vientiane Airport to Laos Immigration at the Friendship Bridge, then the local bus across the bridge to Thai Immigration at Nong Khai.
  10. Thanks - a very interesting post with many replies for or agaist toilet paper/bum gun. From my experience travelling throughout Central and Northern Thailand, this appears to be a very common alternative:-
  11. Yes, I do read about Thailand and post on AN whilst no longer living in the country (as do many others I am sure). During my 20 years living up north in Lanna and Isaan, I gained a lot of local knowledge and as a former Tourist Police Volunteer it has always been my main intention to pass on useful knowledge when requested or for advice. Yes I do make the occasional quip but not in an offensive manner. I can assure you I am very happy not to be living in Thailand and have no intentions of ever returning - except possibly as a tourist like in November 2022 when I travelled from Siem Reap to attend the Royal British Legion Remembrance Day Service in Chiang Mai. I hope to continue to contribute to AN unless someone decides otherwise.
  12. My sincere apologies - a Mercedes! Somewhere I read a BMW.
  13. Thanks, and I would also be concerned about using both hands to serve food from local market stalls and dipping into ice buckets for ice cubes!
  14. The 20 year old Thai lads - as shown in photo.
  15. Many do not and end up with damp patches on their clothing in derriere areas - most off-putting when waiting in a Thai hospital queue and you are next to sit on a damp stained chair! My choice:
  16. IMO Thailand's gone to pot!! Glad I no longer live in the country (personal choice).
  17. Maybe why the BMW's number plate could be red???
  18. Cambodia - reference 19 April 2023: “Starting today, most areas in the country could experience rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds till Saturday. Lowland areas will experience temperatures of 39 degrees Celsius,” the ministry said in a statement https://www.khmertimeskh.com/501275424/beware-more-storms-on-the-way/
  19. One - an elderly foreigner from the new Arcturus variant.
  20. Oh really? From today's International media headlines (21 April 2023): The first death from the Arcturus strain, thought to be around 1.2 times more infectious than the last major sub-variant, was recorded in Thailand yesterday.............Dr Supakit Sirilak, director-general of the Medical Sciences Department, revealed today that it was an unnamed elderly man died from the new variant.......the man who died was “an elderly foreigner” with underlying health conditions. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/dead-arcturus-covid-variant-thailand-b2323608.html Good news for TAT?????? As this is a Thai Forum and I no longer live in the Country, I will make no further comment.
  21. I was one of those farangs living in Isaan - som tam avoided like the plague. Papaya and chilli peppers gave me Bangkok Belly!! Pad Thai okay!
  22. Only in Thailand??? Referring to an earlier post, not in Cambodia evidently- zero new cases! The wearing of masks and tests at large gatherings (including schools and hospitals) now lifted (no longer mandatory).
  23. For reference:- According to CENTRAL, there are more than 2 million Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand, of which about half are undocumented, and therefore illegal. The organisation said those without legal documents face many challenges, such as labour exploitation and persecution by Thai authorities.Feb 28, 2023 Full article: https://www.phnompenhpost.com/national/migrant-workers-thailand-struggle-economy-slowing#:~:text=According to CENTRAL%2C there are,and persecution by Thai authorities.
