I would also like to point out foreign currency accounts in Thai banks, are not covered by the Thai Deposit Protection Agency. -

A lot of immigration offices visit every year, even a big payment would not work. There are forms to be signed by you, your wife, and your witness/neighbor + they take more photos. DON'T give em money !

Normally I don't get asked to tip, especially not before the meal, or table laid, or the waitresses fuel bill.

That is dependent on what province you live, they all have different quite legal rules.

They once asked me for the ferry ticket, for coming, i told them I didn't invite you, you wanted to come, I also pointed out that i thought police didn't pay for the ferry. I always take mine if going anywhere overnight, even though I have a pink card excepted by all hotels I have stayed, I will even take my bank book 'in case' on a longer trip. Emergences happen, you could need a new ATM card, Hospital, Flights etc. etc..

Or locked in your car, can be safer than a hotel room. Most people take their phones even to the beach.

Just to add, as some people may not realize, that the total square meters of a house/room size is measured by from the Outside of the walls not the internal size. Of course there are also hand held measuring devices, but at 2k+ i'd stick to a normal tape/pencil/paper/eraser.
