  1. Bit of a puzzle to me, so asking before driving into auto electric place in BKK...

All 4 electric windows work when they feel like it.....

eg: front drivers will not open but passenger one will... likewise with the rear, sometimes they will part open or will not close or par close...

yesterday the rear drivers side one would not close, had to leave it open all night, yet this morning closed just fine ?? [with car full of mosquitoes] tried closing with the rear switch also nothing... but the front offside closed but very slowly..

Have checked the fuses appear OK

Any ideas please as to where to look ?

Happened to our pick up last month but only the drivers window, turned out to be a build up of road dust on the connections.

By the way it took the guy one and a half hours to repair, took the whole assembly out and also fixed the wipers (they weren't working either for the grand sum of 180 baht, Issan prices can't beat them.

  2. You need to go along to your local immigration bureau for a proof of residence certificate, take your rent book...

Rent book? Would my copy of the signed contract leasing the condo for one year do?

Should do you just need something official in writing showing where you live.

  3. I pretty much understand the procedures and requirements about getting a Thai driver's license. I am on a retirement visa.

The one I don't understand is: "Present residence address certified by embassy or Immigration Bureau or work permit."

    What does that mean?

    Thanks

You need to go along to your local immigration bureau for a proof of residence certificate, take your rent book or wifes tabian baan, copy of your passport, two photos some say it's free but cost me 500 baht. The certificate is good for one month only if you don't use by then you'd have to apply for another.

  4. Nice one mate just a few things,

can you pay in baht or have you just currency converted for us?

    what is the LCCT

I converted to baht but it's roughtly ten baht to the ringett so easy to convert. The LCCT is Low Cost Carrier Terminal where AirAsai go to , their bus stops outside to the right when you come out of the terminal, if you want a taxi straight to the embassy after you clear customs theres a taxi counter buy your ticket there (70 ringetts) and go out to the taxi rank.

Chinatown Hotel is in Petaling St the main market street theres a few hotels priced between 60 to 100 ringetts in Petaling itself try Chinatown Hotel not Chinatowm 2 Hotel although it's very clean the walls are like paper and you can't switch off the aircon.

You can take a taxi to Butik Bintang the main tourist area if you want a change from Chinatown for around 10 ringetts ( they'll not use the meter).

    Cheers,

  5. I'm heading to Penang next week, but in light of the new troubles getting a tourist visa there, has anyone tried Kuala Lumpur lately? I haven't found any current reports here.

Are they issuing tourist visas in KL without any difficulty?

If you've been there lately, perhaps you could give us an update?

... and maybe a short outline on the visa application process? i.e, how long it takes to get the visa ... what documents you need ... any agents you used and would recommend. (even places to stay :)))

    THANKS!

I was there two months ago no problems then but I don't know about now, but you were asking about getting there so

heres what I done from LCCT took a taxi from the desk after customs for 700 baht to the embassy, it closes at 11.30 am taxi takes 45 minutes, arrived embassy 11.10am ( I've done this 4 times now and never been a problem getting there before closing) handed my papers in for an Non O came out of the front gate turn right and walk 10 minutes down to Ampang Park metro line, and went to Chinatown (Pensar Seni station 16 baht) Chinatown Hotel 600 baht, next day I took the metro back to embassy, theres a Mcdonalds outside Ampang Park where you can stay till the embassy opens at 2.30pm, left the Embassy back to the metro station to KL Sentral 20 baht and caught the AirAsia bus for 90 baht to the LCCT with two half to spare for my 18.45 flight back to Bangkok.

If you don't want to go straight to the embassy take the AirAsia 90 baht bus to KL Sentral then cross the road to the Rapid train and go to Pensar Seri Chinatown, lots to do around there and the foods cheap although beers expensive 70 baht a can in the 7.

    Hope this is of help.

  6. Apple has acknowledged that its new iPhone 3GS may be having some issues with regards to temperature its new smartphone can reach under normal circumstances.

The company has been forced to issue a set of guidelines that will help users keep their handsets within a comfortable temperature range, thereby avoiding overheating problems.

The iPhone 3/3GS they say, should be operated "in a place where the temperature is between 0º and 35º C". Failure to do so could shorten the battery life or cause the phone to temporarily stop working.

The manufacturer suggests that the phone be stored in places where "the temperature is between -20º and 45º C (-4º to 113º F)". Temperature in cars, it says, will often exceed the upper limit.

It also advises users not to use resource-hungry applications like streaming media or GPS over a long period as they put significant strain on the device's hardware.

Failure to follow these could cause the display to dim, weaker cellular signal and finally a temperature warning may appear on the device's screen saying that the "iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it".

Apple's move comes after reports that white iPhones tend to turn pinkish brown quickly due to overheating. Furthermore, it also looks like the new iPhone OS 3.0 update might cause older iPhone 2G and 3G to overheat

  7. You don't need to stay around that area staying in Chinatown is a good option theres a Rapid rail link from Pensar Seri station in Chinatown to Ampang Park station ten minutes walk from the embassy, same side as the shopping centre with Mcdonalds continue over the cross roads and the embassys no more than a ten minute walk costs around 1.7 Ringett for the ride.

Hotels in Petaling St lots for under 1,000 baht try Chinatown Hotel around 750 baht per night but watch out for Chinatown 2 Hotel nice'n'clean but paperthin walls and you can't switch the air con off.

  8. Use another computer with a drive to create a disk image (ISO) from the DVD using something like ImgBurn. Transfer this file to your Netbook. Use something like Daemon Tools to mount the image as a virtual drive.

Thanks a lot something to keep me busy this weekend.

  9. Any one need a visa run in August AirAsia have the 2000 baht promos on again, just come back yesterday on the same deal 2,073 baht return. The new LCCT is now open took me all of 15 minutes from getting off the plane to getting in the taxi, no problem with the flu screening just straight past the camera.

Heres what I done took a taxi from the desk after customs for 700 baht to the embassy, it closes at 11.30 am taxi takes 45 minutes, arrived embassy 11.10am ( I've done this 4 times now and never been a problem getting there before closing) handed my papers in for an Non O come out of the front gate turn right and walk 10 minutes down to Ampang Park metro line, toChinatown Pensar Seni station 16 baht Chinatown Hotel 600 baht, next day took metro back to embassy, theres a Mcdonalds outside Ampang Park where you can stay till the embassy opens at 2.30pm, left the Embassy back to the metro station to KL Sentral 20 baht and caught the AirAsia bus for 90 baht to the LCCT with two half to spare for my 18.45 flight back to Bangkok.

Just a note theres a free tourist visa till 4th June if your going sooner, the Embassy was virtually empty I usually get a number around 190 and wait 2 hours the number was 100 and took all of 30 minutes in and out.

  10. Hi All

A few more nights and i'll be over.

I have seen the Dawin Hotel advertised for 20% off after initial night.

Looks nice on the web site and with the discount it will cost 1900baht or so.

It has a roof top pool etc. Looks OK to me.

I know where it is but never been there.

    Anyone been there or stayed?

Any good or not as the case may be?

  11. halo dear members

Im planning to visit Buriram, with the objective being to visit Phanom rung & Muang Tam. I'll go directly from BKK (havent decided whether should go by bus or train) on 4th june in the afternoon. Can you help on the transportation & its cost once I get to Buriram?

Some of my friends tell me that if i want to visit Phanom Rung, it's better to go to Nang Rong instead since it's nearer to the temples. How do i get to NangRong, Is there any bus available from Buriram bus station to NangRong or is there any other mode of transportation I should consider? or is the bus from BKK to Buriram will pass NangRong. Plus, what should I take to get to the temples from NangRong, bus? motortaxi? tuktuk?

How about train? will taking a train from BKK to Buriram enable me to get off at Nangrong station?

I dont have really much time for this trip, so I consider visiting Phanom Rung very early in the morning, then to Muan Tam, and get back on the bus/train in the afternoon to go to Phimai. Do you guys think it's possible? but it also depends on the departure time from BKK -- most probably I'll go from BKK in the afternoon.

thanks so much for your help

    ALi

I live in Nang Rong, you can take the bus from Mo Chit they leave about every hour 246 baht first class with a coke and cake and a meal at the half way stop, takes five and a half hours. It's a long trip to do in one day better to stay overnight.

Places to stay The Honey Hotel just across the road from the bus station or maybe The California.

Take you around thirty minutes to get to Phanom Rung.

  12. can you please clarify how you use these scratch cards to buy internet time? do you just dial a number and enter the information and they credit account separately from your sim card? your sim card company does not have to be the same as internet provider?

With one2call all you need do is dail *138 and select which package you want, then every month they'll deduct that amount of money direct from your balnce, you don't need to do anything else apart from having enough money on your phone to cover the monthly charge. you can check your minutes balance by texting *139#

  13. \ou use? Rates? Etc. Thanks.

On One2Call pay as you go it's easy dial *138 and you can subscribe to a monthly package from 50 baht for 6 hours then they just deduct off your balance every month, dial *139# to find your minutes remaining.

30 hrs for bt99 is surely what you mean

No, it starts at 6 hours for 50 baht but the more hours you buy the cheaper it gets, I only buy 50 bahts worth for when I'm travelling on the bus to Bangkok once a month to stop me getting bored.

  14. During Songkran I saw little kids wandering around the streets with the all the drunks driving around in their Isaan Cadillac's.

It breaks my heart seeing babies on motorcycles and that is just a small sign of the recklessness afforded to children here in Thailand :o

I recently saw a farang guy on Sukhumvit riding a motorbike with one hand and holding a one year old baby in the other.

  15. Thanks for the heads up, thats a HUGE loss for me, well I claim it back anyways but thats not the point. :o

The dates I booked were for the 20th May return 21st May but there are still fares for 304 baht plus taxes for other days around that time.

When you come through immigration theres a taxi kiosk next to the information desk on the left, book your taxi there then take the ticket to the rank outside, if I wasn't in a hurry I'd take the Airasia bus to Sentral for 80 baht only takes an hour.

  16. I have never found a airasia price at the price you quote, that surely is not including taxes? We are talking Kuala Lumpur here? Also 700 baht for a taxi, no way I have been for work and paid in dollars way higher that that. Am I missing something here? :o

The price is right thats why I posted it, if you look on Airasias sight and try to book you'll see for yourself, also the airport taxi service to the Thai Embassy is 70 Ringets ( approx 700 baht) maybe your using their limousine service, try using the local currency instead of dollars and book from the taxi desk inside the airport.

I can also collect my passport at 2.oopm this gives me at least 2.5 hours to check in for a 18.45 flight, if traffics bad then you can take the airport express train to KLIA for 380 baht and take a 15 baht 15 minute transfer to the LCCT.

  17. Got some friends coming over Xmas time they are looking two bedroom accomodation for about ten days anywhere in Phuket, anybody got any idea of something suitable for a family of four and not costing the earth (if possible).

    Thanks,

Lersuang apartments nice for families of 4 : see www.PhuketWest.com

Thanks for the suggestions I'll check them out.

  18. The 07.10 flight from BKK to KUL (FD3571) gets into KUL at 10.15. Are you sure you will get to the embassy before it closes for applications at 11.30am? Even if you transferred to the KLIA Express train and then a taxi to the embassy, there's no way you'll make it!

Made the trip three times now and never been a problem usually make a few days break of it with my wife though, straight out to a taxi 700 baht to the embassy takes about 45 minutes, then next day an Airasia bus from Sentral at 80 baht back to the airport takes around one hour.
