To the person that gave me a confused emoji. I fully understand your confusion, presumably because you’ve never driven an EV.

You see, in an ICEV, you get in, insert your key if it’s a particularly old or low tech vehicle and then crank the engine, either with the key or via a button. The engine then springs to life with a shudder and a puff of smoke. In an EV, you press a button (labelled start normally) and then… nothing. No drama. Just like pressing the ON button on a remote.

I liken it to the days when I was gainfully employed and having to travel for business. If you are unfortunate enough to fly cattle class, you struggle and squeeze your way along a narrow aisle to locate your seat, only to find the overhead cabin full with <deleted> from other passengers and you have to look for an empty space in another overhead cabin miles from your seat to plonk your carry on baggage.

On the other hand, at the front of the plane, the delightful and sometimes delicious stewardess show you to your seat and sometimes even offer to deposit your hand luggage on the voluminous cabin directly above your seat. Of course, being a gentleman, you would politely decline and do it yourself, implying that if she were to sit in your sexy performance EV, you would be holding the door open for her.

Don’t hesitate to seek further clarification if necessary. Regards.

One of the first cars with a button-based ignition was the 1912 Cadillac Model 30, which had you press a button to activate the electric starter that replaced the engine crank.

    https://www.theverge.com/2022/5/31/23144907/push-button-start-ignition-cars-convenience-history

Keyless ignition was initially only available on luxury cars starting in the late 1990s, but it has become increasingly common. From 2008 to 2018, it became a standard feature on 62% of cars sold in the United States, and today that number is closing in on 100%

  5. May hybrid car sales surge 92.1%, EV sales drop 28.8%, watch June car market slow down further

For interesting car sales figures in May, especially in the xEV market with sales of 17,228 vehicles, accounting for 34.5% of the total car market. There was a growth rate of 17.9% compared to the same period last year. When divided by vehicle type, sales of hybrid vehicles (HEV) were 10,986 units, an increase of 92.1%, while sales of electric vehicles (BEV) were 5,573 units, a decrease of 28.8%.

Yes, I read that, interesting the 53% top concern was EV price premium, some of those are likely to "want" an EV but won't pay a premium.  Hopefully Chinese EV's can change that.

Australia is a really big country, I'm not convinced EV's are right for those driving thousands of miles between cities, which is probably a small percentage of drivers anyway.

Chinese EV's brand's apply a different markup and it varies by Country to Country for example

Byd Dolphin standard China B503,495 Thailand B559,900 Australia B900,000 UK B1,403,624

In Thailand Buying a his and hers dolphin's and you still have B283,824 change in your bank account compared to the UK price

UK Byd seals start from B2,1 million baht to B2,3 million baht

That's not a source, or perhaps it's what passes for a source by the Anti EV brigade.

Being least likely to buy an EV is not the same as "92% of Australians don't want an EV?"

I am least likely to buy a Rolls Royce Spectre, it doesn't mean I don't want one.

Come on guys, we've been through this, English is precise language, let's not ASS U me.

    The article also stated

According to the study, 53 per cent of Australians surveyed said the price premium EVs carry over combustion-powered vehicles was their top concern

52 per cent of those surveyed said charging times were their top concern, followed by a lack of public EV charging infrastructure at 51 per cent.

The study found over 50 per cent of Australians surveyed would purchase an internal combustion-powered vehicle as their next car, while 20 per cent would purchase a hybrid and 12 per cent would purchase a plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

  8. A new report suggests Australians are less likely than Japanese, Korean, German and Southeast Asian consumers to want an electric vehicle (EV) as their next car.

A report from Savvy, underpinned by a Deloitte survey of 26,000 consumers across 24 countries or regions including Japan, United States, Australia, India, Southeast Asia, Germany, China, and South Korea, concluded only eight per cent of Australians would consider an electric vehicle as their next car purchase.

For existing Byd owners or anyone that was planning to use BYD Loyalty Privilege campaign
Friend Gets Friend Campaign the savings are very small compared to pre discount pricing and freebies

    1. Maintenance cost for 8 years 160,000 km = 26,550

    2. Charged cable with installation = 35,000

    Can't join campaign (charge credit)

    1. Referral fee credit charge 30,000

    2. Existing customer bought credit recharge 40,000

    https://www.reverautomotive.com/news/friend-gets-friend-campaign

Total, no additional payment if you use all the rights = 131,550

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/2389905174463399/permalink/7667635510023646

so anyone that was planning to use all of the above the savings on the new price reductions against pre discount prices are B8,549 and savings of B28,549 on the extended model

The female customer is very stressed. Reversing the red label of famous brand EVs. Before finding out about the price cut, the damage was worth 150,000 baht.

Purchase Dolphin standard car end of April price B659,900

     20% down payment, 72 instalment's = 131,980 + 8,736×72, added film for another 9,860 baht, total is 744,912 baht

    https://www.matichon.co.th/social/news_4642170

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/bydthailand/permalink/825732929533490

The above numbers don't seem to be correct 8,736x72=B628,992+B131,980=B760,972+B9,860= Total B770,832

Purchase Dolphin standard car today Price B559,900

    20% down B111,980 72 instalment's B7,412=B533,664 + 20% down payment B111,980 Total B645,644

Difference in price between April 2024 price and today price is  B125,188

However anyone that bought April 2024 price and utilized the BYD Loyalty Privilege campaign
     Friend Gets Friend Campaign

    Maintenance cost for 8 years 160,000 km = 26,550

    2. home wall charger cable with installation = 35,000

Total value of all of the above B131,550

Anyone that Bought March-April Motor show price B659,900 and utilized all of the above is would be paying an extra  B3,498 including the  Max film cost

Anyone paying cash would be B21,690 ( including Max film ) better off buying in March-April Motor show price B659,900

How? They did not build the factory yet.

On June 17, 2024, reporters reported that The 100% Chinese electric car company BYD is preparing to officially open the BYD car factory at WHA Industrial Estate, Rayong Province, Thailand on July 4th.

The reporter further reported that This factory will begin producing the first 100% electric cars ( EVs ) for the Thai market. And to support export markets in ASEAN and Europe as well, is BYD Dolphin

At the scene, a multi-purpose vehicle was found. Characteristics of the MG brand electric train are battery or electric systems. There was fire burning around the hood and inside the cabin. Officials used chemical spray to suppress the fire until it was extinguished.

As for the initial cause, it is believed that it was caused by a collision with the drive shaft of the bus. which is absent on the road Then it hit the battery that was under the car. While moving the car onto the slide Then a fire broke out. The highway forklift operator decided to use a winch to pull the truck down from the slide. Then use a chemical tank to spray to put out the fire. before notifying the fire department in the area to provide further assistance At the time of the incident, no injured or dead persons were found. As for the actual cause, it is under investigation by the police.

I had a LINE messaging chat with a Bangkok BYD dealership today....the dealership's LINE point of contact is fluent in English.  Confirmed the 22-30 June 2024 Dolphin promotion does "not" include Free Spare and Maintenance for 8 years/160K Km (not to be confused with the 8 years/160K KM warranty).

But if a person buys and takes delivery "before" the promotion begins 22 June Free Spares and Maintenance is included but no Bt100K price reduction.

I expect after the promotion ends on 30 June and the Bt100K price reduction goes bye-bye then the Free Spares and Maintenance will return with the Dolphin going back to its regular/current price.

For customers who reserve and purchase the BYD DOLPHIN electric car, Standard Range model or Extended Range model and receive a tax invoice issued between 22 June 2024 and – 30 June 2024 or until the BYD DOLPHIN electric car, Standard Range model or Extended Range model. Extended Range will be sold out

The wording indicates this price will remain until all stock is sold

I think there wouldn't be any pricing changes until they have a stockpile of between 2,000-5000 locally built vehicles

I'm awaiting my 30,000 THB Charging credit for a referral I made when the campaign first started.  It takes up to 60 days apparently, that is the 17th July.

it does state within 60 days here

The company will transfer BYD Euro Privilege credits to the existing customer's ReverSharger application within 60 days after receiving the new customer's new vehicle delivery information. This BYD Euro Privilege credit transfer will be based on and based on the chassis number (VIN Number) of the original customer.

BYD Euro Privilege credits are valid until 31 December 2026 only and are not transferable or exchangeable for cash.

interesting to find out the thai made specs of models currently sold  , differences if any and Sale prices since it is made locally.

the dolphin new prices is certainly tempting even without the previous free maintenance ( 26.5k baht )

When GWM started selling Thai built Ora's in January 2024 there was price reductions ranging from B99,000 to B187,000 difference from the imported versions

    https://autolifethailand.tv/official-price-ora-good-cat-gt-my2024/

From a marketing point of view Byd might want to take the standard Dolphin below the B500K market which would affect Neta V and Wuling potential sales or they choose to wait for release of Seagull to enter below the B500k market

Peeked at GWM's Ora Good Cat & 07.  Both very nice, and never paid much attention to them.   Just the negative BS, 'chickie car'.   OGC was very solid, and had that quality sound when closing the door.   Impressed and wasn't expecting it to be so pleasing.  Well fitted out.

Again, not understanding why anyone would bother the imports from JP, or 'made in TH' entry vehicles.

Those interested should take a peek at the all, GWM, BYD, MG & NETAs for budget conscious.
