I can believe that overall tourist numbers have not declined, due to the influx of Asian tourists.
What has declined, and I know this from checking the stats over the past 5 years for my ex's hotel, is that the average hotel room rate charged has fallen year on year.
A guest room that she used to sell for 1,500 baht a night now sells for 750 baht, because not only are Asian guests unwilling to pay 1,500 baht, the number of competitor hotels and guesthouses has hugely increased. Many of these are unlicenced and do not pay the required taxes either, thereby creating unfair financial advantage.
It is a race to the bottom, nothing less.
what's the name of the hotel and where is it located? sound's like a good deal

Your either posting outside thailand or you have empty space between your earsOh dear
either insurgents, protesters against government or government arranging it themselves to bring back military rule as this "demo-crazy" thing doesn't seem to be working too well
It seems a chance for this psycho army bloke to roll his tanks out and do what his daddy taught him to do ..shoot the peasants!
I bet there are several changes of underwear whatever the reason being arranged in parliament today! -
Yep had no choice either pay the 300 or stay till dark and walk. The first guy I threatened to report and took my phone out and he just laughed and waved me away.. ScumThe airport. Hah! See what happens when you get caught needing a taxi from Chaengwattana after 4 pm. 300 baht to Mo Chit BTS, 400 baht to Pinklao, or 500 baht to Thawi Wattana. If they can't crack down on non metered shakedowns in the Government Complex at Chaengwattana, where can they? Joke.I did find a couple to share with so that eases the pain

Yawn wake me up when it actually pops in the meantime happy collecting 45k rent [emoji16] -
Oh snap out of it. Your telling me the nob never had any good years here? Not even a good month?I love threads like these. It really brings out how toxic and vindictive this forum is. Man posts valid & understandable reasons and thoughts behind his move and is met with constant trash such as:
And its not just this forum either, its a big part of the expat community in Thailand as well.
Read the OP again he slags of thailand with every cliche in the book and then some. Sounds like the guy just attracted trouble to be bashed around by the Thais to that extent.
What a winner!-

You get what you pay for.It was MOST PROBABLY an accident.
Gosh. In the 1990's, the apartment in Bangkok that I stayed in for several years had a balcony (it was on the eighth floor) and there was no railing ! The outer wall was quite low (if I remember right, coming to my waist level; well maybe just a bit higher). Once, barefoot, I slipped at the balcony and nearly fell down. It was a close call. And, thinking about the number of times I came home at night drunk in those years, I guess I was very lucky (the situation was particularly risky there because the balcony was between the room and the bathroom. The design was like that for all the rooms there). -
No anywhere is better why pay over the top on exchange even if it's launderedRussian and Chinese mafia need somewhere to funnel their laundered money investments, thailand is a perfect match. -

And this loose visa policy will get tight soon enough don't worry about that, probably straight after all the cheap charlie no 800k Thai expats mass migrate. Only a matter of time really

You should read the Thai news more often.
One case comes mind of the old grandma, grandpa and grandkid from the UK that got nearly beaten to death in Hua Hin
Yes, I am sure there is absolutely no crime in Phuket, right?

He doesn't want people to say good bye. He wants people to agree with him that Thailand is an uncivil wild west country that should let people retire for free. Hardly a nice thought for those of us who actually live here.
Agreed most of his post resides in his head only. I pay my 800k, immigration are always polite, i don't see farang getting bashed by "street gangs" and I find Thias extremely polite.
Life goes on as it did 12 years ago. OP failed to make it and now has pulled out every cliche in the book
looking for backslappers but nobody joining him on the last train out..just wishing him well lol

You have to use a bigger timeframe for the thai baht.
The last 10 years it's basically recovering from the financial crisis in asia where it got hit badly.
It's after all not so surprisingly it's doing so good the last year as it started from the bottom.
what financial crisis was that 10 years ago?

Keep it dropping, great for us that only use the pound when going to visit family and friends.
Its a race to the bottom with The OZ dollar making a late run down the straight. Great news for those who have loads of baht and wish to repatriate or holiday or just cash their chips in and wait for the reversal but the bottom could be years away yet.
