  1. Many embassies only issue an emergency travel document if you are not registered with it as living the country. With the emergency travel document you then travel back to where you officially live in order to get a new fully-fledged passport.
  2. Are you entitled to get a new normal passport (ie other than an emergency travel document) from a consulate or embassy in a country where you are not registered with the embassy as a resident in said country?
  3. Of course. No one reckoned the climate boys would leave out such a popular item as El Niño. Everything is down to climate change these days. Hurricanes, tornadoes, decline of fish catch, polar bears this and that, iceberg calvings, floods, jelly fish, ...
  4. El Niño was first used by Peruvian fishermen to describe the oceanic condition 4 centuries ago. This hasn't prevented alarmists from turning it into a climate change thing.
  5. I see. It's as much a frozen pension issue as one of not having a bank account outside Thailand any more.
  6. So it would have had to be 2 years. What about spending just one year, and during that year open an account with every possible bank before moving out again?
  7. Tax on dividends: unfortunately, they will levy the 10% tax using a tax number consisting of zeros (000000000). I asked my broker if my thai TIN might be used instead. I got the usual thai answer: "you need not bother about that". I'm sure they could set it to my TIN if they wanted, but it would require some work on their part. Having a broker's account is most certainly not equated with "working". I know people who've been here for decades on pensioners' visas and they invest in shares in Thailand.
  8. Little in common with Luxemburg. Portugal has a 10% tax on foreign pensions.
  9. I worry about a scenario where there's unrest, before the military "restoring order". This time the West may not turn a blind eye like it did last time. This would mean sanctions, Thailand drifting further towards Russia and China. Then good luck to expats keeping their bank accounts back home while residing in Thailand.
  10. Transparency? Does it mean replacing plastic cups with glass cups?
  11. Well, Viagra was never touted as a drug that prevents death. If death could never occur while on Viagra, nobody would die anymore.
  12. I'm going to Bangkok Bank this week for this photo thing. Do I have to bring along the smartphone with the banking app?
  13. Underrepresented in the Supreme Court? So are atheists, drug users, Buddhists, gang-bang wives, scientists, digital nomads, vegetarians, antinatalists ... My skin is off-white except when I've been in the sun for weeks, then it turns light brown. Do I qualify as being "of color"? I'd like to because I like free lunches as well.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, playing Hitler's speeches anywhere (including in your own home) is against the law in Austria just like in Germany. If you set your VPN to Germany you should not get any Hitler speech on Youtube. Same thing regarding nazi songs like the nazi "national anthem" (Die Fahne hoch ...). You can click to hear excerpts on Wikipedia except on the German Wikipedia. Even the tune is banned in Germany. You're not allowed to hum it.
  15. Yeah, since obviously you accept them as your masters, least I could do is have a go at accpeting them as my equals.
  16. Except the Thais I see patronising the venues have for the most part way more money than my broke ass.
  17. I see much support here for "the voice of the people". Do you guys think "the people" is on our side? Do you think the people will do away eg with dual pricing? You bet they will! If "the people" had their way the price for foreigners would not be 5 times the price for Thais. It would be twenty times that. What did "the voice of the people" do for us in our respective home countries beside creating feminist police states?
  18. Another batch of "victims" falling prey to the rescue industry. And more horny men left with no other option than traveling to Thailand or the Phillipines. Men in 180 countries signing away their sexual rights, then thinking "too bad, luckily there's always Pattaya and Angeles City". Fools!
  19. Having to choose between either a butt spray or toilet paper, I go for the butt spray any time, because the butt spray cleans the brown stuff while the paper only spreads it like peanut butter.
  20. Do IO visits take place only for visas based on marriage, or also for other types of visas?
  21. The wholesale supermarket at Leopoldstrasse was a Metro. Interestingly the brands Metro and Macro are related. https://www.metroag.de/en/about-us/brands/metro-makro-history
  22. Even if you read here and there that Thailand does not strictly enforce the 6-month rule, what about the airline? Airlines often prefer to err on the side of caution.
  23. I assume you've tried out things like Symbicort. Other mucus thinners are Acetylcysteine and Guaifenesin.
  24. That must have been because the bear was a female. Had it been a male they would've shot him there and then.
