Strange charge at tax office
JackGats replied to offset's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I filed taxes under the (postal) address I use for my bank account and broker's account (also on the dividend slips). TRD never questioned the address or required any kind of contract. Now if one day I go to IO to get a certificate of travel record (with a view to get the RO22 certificate from the regional TRD), this could become a problem, as IO will insist on writing down my actual address at the time. I don't like the idea of TRD raising proof of address issues on top of already tricky tax issues. -
Report Cannabis Chaos: 12,000 Thai Shops Face Closure Under New Rules
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yeah, and there's bad need for more shops selling the same suitcases, and more Indian tailor shops. -
If you own shares (stock) it's good to have them in a different currency from that of your regular income (eg pension). Fluctuations then kind of cancel out. I still remember the days during the first decade of this centry when the dollar was 1 euro = 1.5 USD. The present exchange rate is still far from that.

Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, and most importantly, "I can't stand the smell" passes off as less bigoted than "I can't stand people getting high". The smell of weed is one plant-based smell among many. There are dozens of kitchen smells with far more potential to make many people retch than the smell of weed, ranging from garlic and durian to fermented fish sauce (I forgot the name, pla ra?). Not to mention the ubiquitous smell of drains in TH. Having often grown my own in Europe in the past, I found that the smell of a living cannabis plant, whether in the growing or the flowering stage, was 9 times out of 10 considered mildly pleasant by people who didn't know what the plant was. -
Do You Think the Legalization of Marijuana ....
JackGats replied to NickyLouie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Never mind whether 80% or even 98%. The majority should not have a mandate to oppress minorities. -
Four wives but for whom? There aren't enough hot young wives to go round.

Report Cannabis Advocates to Rally July 7 Against Recriminalisation Plans
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Seriously ill people who get shots of such painkillers become every bit as addicted as street junkies. -

What didn't work out? The "morphine" used in medecine is diacetyl morphine: (CH₃CO)₂ -Morphine. Diacetyl morphine is heroin but it wouldn't sound good to call it that, would it? It is a shame that people who call for the death penalty for dealers should be entitled to such painkillers when they come to the end of their despicable lives. They should be restricted to acetaminophen. The medical case cannabis has largerly been a way to make any kind of legalisation acceptable for the bigotted masses. It has been so in the US as well. -
Report New Cannabis Regulation: Prescription Required for Sales
JackGats replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The question is, will a prescription be a blank check to buy the kind of cannabis I like from whichever source I see fit? If it means all I'm allowed to do is buy a particular overpriced cannabis oil from a pseudo-pharmacy, that will be the end of legal cannabis in Thailand as far as I'm concerned. -
UK Asylum Appeals Surge Leaves Thousands of Migrants in Hotels for Years
JackGats replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Indeed someone said that, as a debate goes on, the probability of Hitler being mentioned always approaches unity. -
They're great wherever there's service, ie someone to take your laundry out of the machine (and into the dryer) for you. If, like often the case in labour-strapped Pattaya, you need to sit down and wait during the whole process, not so great.

Poll Should Thailand legalize brothels?
JackGats replied to MalcolmB's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
To paraphrase Steve Pinker: This question is so bad, it isn't even wrong. -
UK Asylum Appeals Surge Leaves Thousands of Migrants in Hotels for Years
JackGats replied to Social Media's topic in World News
No more asylum, period! After the war started in Ukraine, I wondered why I couldn't get a hotel any more in Germany for reasonable prices. Until I found out many hotels had been commandeered to host Ukrainian refugees. People should fight it out in their own country, or beat up their mother for bringing them into this world, not fall back on strangers who live thousand of miles away. -
Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance

Wasn't cannabis said to "kill motivation"? Now it seems to be motivating people to commit violence. Quite a leap. -
Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance

Any business where customers pay cash can be suspected/accused of money laundering. I don't see any difference in this respect with a restaurant selling curries and pizzas. The money-laudering charade is out of control. It is now an excuse for government overreach at all levels. -
Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
They couldn't pin physical harm on cannabis so they invented this vague "motivation" thingy. Why "motivation"? Why not consideration? Observation? -

I think he meant the laudry shops next to the cannabis shops. From a distance it may be difficult to tell both apart. -
Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance
JackGats replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The money grab with pseudo-legalisation didn't pan out for the economy as a whole, so now comes a backtracking money-grab on behalf the medical establishment and the police. Cannabis decriminalisation was the only development in Thailand which I'd rate "postive" over the last 5 years.- 270 replies

When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Ask for two, three, four plastic bags, the more the better. The other day I saw a consignment of coconuts with each coconut wrapped in plastic. WTF! The plastic dystopia shall be carried out to its logical end. Thailand has the script already written out: remote communities who see a foreign tourist every blue moon will litter themselves knee-deep in plastic garbage, then blame tourism, or as they like to say, "bad tourism".
