  1. This may have got worse after Thailand made the dog euthanasia potion (Pentobarbital) unavailable. Of course the dog potion could be used by humans to off themselves, that's why it got banned. The war on drugs, for that's what it is at the end of the day, has unintended consequences.
  2. I've found edibles that are just the ticket for me and I want to stick to them in the future after after having tried other things that were weak or unpredictable, prompting me to redose to early and overshoot (a cannabis overdose doesn't make you badly sick but it is mighty unpleasant). The edibles I buy are the chocolates from Blow Thailand (3 chocolate "flowers" for 180 Baht). I eat all 3 at one go and you should do so because I've noticed the active cannabis content is only consistent across all 3 and not on a piecemeal basis.
  3. I get episodes of pessimism and despondency but they never last long and never degenerate into lasting depression. Nothing comparable to the come-down from stims.
  4. I've been in hotels in Pattaya where there are balconies with iron chairs and what have I seen upon one of the chairs? Almost invariable an ash-tray. That's a hint. Plus, if cannabis smoking was a no-no in hotels here why do I from time to time smell an unmistakable whiff of cannabis in the halls?
  5. Just curious, how do you get the THC out? Or do you extract from strains with very low THC.
  6. And the Thais upcountry eat raw vegetables, see them chewing on it like rabbits. Is it healthy or is it just lazy? Where I come from you take those vegetables and you give yourself the trouble to cook them into a soup. Carrots and lettuce are about the only veggies I can eat raw. As to the other ones I find the taste revolting and they would give me heart burn or a touch of diarrhoea. The OP certainly has something that is wrong in his metabolism. I surmise the docs covered every bug with their pills, including Amoebas and worms. Amoebas nearly killed me 20 years ago after a trip in Africa.
  7. Lazada is a hassle when it comes to delivery. However I'm not convinced it advertises more unreliable goods than other sellers. As a test, try searching for "minoxidil foam" on Shopee, then on Lazada. Minoxidil is a topical for hair growth. The hits on Lazada show realistic prices for a three-months supply (ie prices comparable to the price on Amazon.com). Shopee on the other hand lists suppliers with prices that are much too low for the product to be genuine. A three-month supply of Rogaine foam on Lazada: 2400 Baht. Same on Shopee: between 757 and 1489 Baht. I thought at first there could be confusion as to the quantity, but the instances on Shopee do specify "3 ขวด".
  8. I've been quoted less for such a trip by Bolt. Right now from LK Metro to BHP (3.5km according to Google Maps) Bolt is quoting 81 Baht.
  9. May have had to do with the fireworks in Pattaya over the week-end. Bolt fares have been abnormally high over the last three days.
  10. I hope this does not mean Bolt will soon get driven out of Thailand like Uber did, I don't want to be back to taxi rides no longer being available at less than 200 or 400 Baht.
  11. I use my motorbike driving licence as ID in TH. The passport I only use when I travel far from my base, and at hotel check-ins etc.
  12. I don't think the water in Ao Nang is clean enough for swimming though.
  13. No sex night life on Ko Lanta even before Covid.
  14. Given AirBnB is banned in Thailand, wouldn't filling out a TM30 be tantamount to turning oneself in?
  15. "Démocrassie" (= democrassy) is how French right-winger Charles Maurras spelled "democracy" at the turn of the last century. Democracies often evolve to be as bad as dictatorships, with the majority depriving minorities of their personal freedoms.
  16. Remember to deactivate the spam protection in your phone app. They will be calling you. I'd much prefer to give them my Line ID to receive Line messages, but there it is.
  17. I've been patronising Dentist@Beach (central festival) for the last three years. I have no plans to stop doing so.
  18. Funny nobody ever asks "Isn't it men who don't want to marry and/or have children anymore?.
  19. Every unborn life is a prey less for that suffering maximising machine we call "life". Time to say no to the tragedy of sentient life! Climate is a red herring. The Earth is not an air-conditioner for the human animal, surprise surprise. It will at all times and everywhere be either too cold or too hot.
  20. You can set up the other SIM as verifying number. But the best thing is to allow Google to verify on another device through Google services instead of SMS. Who doesn't have at least 1 fall-back device these days? You may also want to print out the emergency codes which work much like the old paper throw-away codes (TANs) used to work in remote banking.
  21. I don't think so. Once your devices are registered as "trusted devices", you're good to go. Unless you have someone using one of your devices AT THE SAME TIME 1000 miles from where you are, in which case Google might, I assume, require verification. What 2-step does is make sure that your Google account is at least as secure as your device(s). Remember too that if one of your device gets stolen you can "untrust" it from another device. Where it can get confusing is if your are using different Google accounts across several devices and you lose track of which Google accounts are logged in on which device(s). I do not resent 2-step on Google since I use Google drive for my docs.
  22. Once your device is recognised as a "trusted" device it's not too bad. It doesn't require you to verify any more unless you log out of your account and in again.
  23. Just curious, would the UK bank report the matter to the tax revenue service of its own accord? Even if you are registered with your UK bank as living outside the UK, ie in Thailand? In some EU countries banks do not report anything except when the tax revenue service initiate an investigation, and tax revenue would only do so if they have you down as a tax resident (tax-liable in the country). In other words, tax residency has nothing to do with where your money gets paid. This makes sense as the opposite would, I think, frighten off foreign account holders.
  24. Water-tight solution: have two accounts in the US. Account Nr 1 is where your pension is paid. Account Nr 2 is where you transfer money to "cool off" until the following tax year. In January of each year transfer to Thailand, from account Nr 2, the money that was "earned" (paid from your pension fund) in the previous year. This way you would stick to the letter of Thai law 100%. Few people I know bother to go to that extent. I myself don't have my pension paid directly to Thailand on a monthly basis though. I transfer a lump sum from time to time under the label "money for retirement". The transfer is also from my own foreign account, ie it doesn't show as coming from a third party like an (former) employer.
  25. I'm not surprised at the "veiled threat". I find it a bit stiff to go beg for refunds of tiny amounts of withholding tax in a country that kindly leaves your main revenues untaxed although its laws would allow for them to be taxed. Best thing to do is to let sleeping dogs lie.
