Thai Tax on Foreign Pensions
JackGats replied to nigelforbes's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
If I remember right, according to Thai law everything not earned during the Thai tax year (not transferred to Thailand the same year it was earned) is not taxable in Thailand. The recommendation is to have your pension(s) paid on an account outside Thailand, then to have one or two lump sums transferred to your Thai bank account each year to finance your retirement in Thailand. What you transfer to Thailand is considered "savings" from the pensions earned the previous years. Regarding your question, I'd say "the US SSc payment" should be considered to be disregarded income by Thailand if you transfer the US SSc money as savings from a previous year and not as a pension payment on a monthly basis. This is as far as Thailand is concerned. I understand some might prefer their pensions to fly directly off to Thailand so as to avoid drawing the attention of the taxman in their home country. -
How is it possible to stink the hallway? If the weed is moderately strong 1 or 2 tokes should be enough. If taken on the balcony few people should notice. Or is someone smoking weed instantaneously insensitive to the smell they generate around them? In my experience marihuana smell is strong but if I'm not mistaken it goes away quickly. It doesn't stick to clothing and furniture like tobacco smell. Then again it may be because 1 or 2 tokes are generally enough while a cigarette will burn away for ages.

Cabinet set to consider 4am closing for entertainment venues in Thailand

My testosterone drops off a cliff after 6pm. I'd much rather "night" spots were required to close earlier so that they would need to open early. Also, I don't need girls who don't wake up until 5pm because they've been merry-making until early morning. -

Why would you want to use hemp in seasoning? A better initiative would be to lower import duties on vinegar and olive oil in order to give tasty healthy cooking a chance. -

What about giving incentives to people who drive an electric car in the city? If taxis went electric it could make a difference (or maybe not?). -
One further reason to get a Thai tax ID: if your bank back home asks you for a TIN number in your country of residence (ie Thailand).

On-going Herpes Medication Available on Social Security?
JackGats replied to throwawayaccount's topic in Health and Medicine
Yes acyclovir, although generic, is not cheap. It's the only anti-herpes drug you can take for long and while doing so you should increase your daily water intake for the sake of your kidneys. I'm not sure taking it as a suppressant is recommended when you are free of symptoms. Taking it for some 2 or 3 weeks whenever you feel an outbreak is underway would be more logical. Taking the drug for months (or years) on end will, alas, not remove the virus from your system. It stays dormant in your body where the drug cannot get at it. -
You might want to soften the impacted wax with olive oil (or special oil from the pharmacy) a few days ahead of your visit to the ear specialist. Otherwise your wax could be too hard to flush out in one session.

It certainly applies to desserts as well. Thai desserts are revoltingly sweet. It also applies to many imported items like yogurt. I've bought some yogurts labelled "natural" only to throw them in a rage into the garbage can because they were full of added sugar. Many types of what passes for bread here has added sugar in it. The best side of food in Thailand for me is that it encourages me to eat little.

Same happening sometimes on my MacBook. I found out it was sometimes struggling while streaming. Resetting the browser helped each time but some settings got lost.

Has anyone had one of these successfully removed in Bangkok or Pattaya? It is very minor surgery but it requires some delicate stitching all the same so that a scar worse than the original cyst doesn't develop.

If it's just learning a couple of words (in their context), I recommend this channel. Words explained with pictures and used in simple sentences. Plenty of repetition for reinforcement.

One question concerning a Last Will and Testament
JackGats replied to Keith5588's topic in General Topics
I also have assets both in Thailand and in an EU country. Will the EU country be content to leave my Thai assets alone, ie to be taxed with inheritance tax in Thailand, then distributed to my heirs in Thailand ? I suspect not. The EU country will want to lump all my assets (EU + Thai) and levy an inheritance tax on the whole. And this will probably lead to an international legal mess ending up in all my assets being frozen for years. I've seen it happen between two neighbouring EU countries, it should be much worse when an exotic country is involved. -
The problem in the non-US west is not paying heating bills over the winter. Families will survive. Families don't go bankrupt. The problem is economy collapse and deindustrialisation. Zero own energy ressources. Not allowed to get energy from Russia. Not allowed to get energy from Iran. When continental Europe goes down, which should be only a question of months now, the savings of many expats will go to.
