No one mentioned  this but you need to be over 50 to apply for the non-o retirement extension. Just a question but what went wrong  with the Phillipppines that you now want to return to live in Thailand?  If you are ex-US Military you can get a lifelong visa in Phillippines for a depost of $1,500 in P  bank and $1,400 application fee.

I have a Philippine SRRV visa.  The country is just totally messed up.  There is next to zero law and order. People are begging all over the place.  In the bigger cities there are slums that are unbelievable.  Internet is hit and miss.  Very difficult to go between provinces, it can be done with some local places being easy but most being a nightmare.  Corruption is much worse than in LOS.  They have a mismatch of rules that change frequently without notice.  We still must were face masks everywhere and face shields in all public places.  Although it doesn't apply to me, COVID vaccinations are way behind. Where I live, Angeles City, people are dyeing do to to lack of hospital beds for non-COVID cases.

But the number one positive thing remains, almost everyone speaks some English with quite a few being very good at it.

Entering the country is allowed now but there several requirements to do it.

You can use the 65k baht option to apply for a extension of stay based upon retirement.

If from a country whose embassy still issue a proof of income document you can use that to prove you income. If not then you will need to show at least 2 months of transfers from abroad into a Thai bank from abroad.

Best to enter with a single entry non-o visa based upon retirement if needing to prove your income by transfers into a Thai bank.

If using proof of 65k baht income from your embassy you can apply for a non-o visa at immigration if you enter with a tourist visa or visa exempt.

I am from the US so embassy income proof is out of the question. I have, I think, an active BB account, verifying now, so I could make deposits ahead of time? The single entry non-O based on retirement would be done at a Thai Embassy, correct?

I currently live in the Philippines.

  3. I am a former holder of an O-A but I left Thailand about 1 1/2 years ago.  Assuming a time when travelers are allowed in, is there any path to getting a long term, like years, visa that does not require large sums of money in the bank and rely only on income?  I have ample income but not enough in the bank.  I would be ok with a few extensions before the long term visa.

  4. I moved from CM to the Philippines.  One thing about Grab that I like here better than CM is the app also shows the color of the car, which makes it easier to spot.  Also many of the cars have a led sign in the window displaying the Grab logo.

    unless it's through Lazada

I don't trust Lazada either.  I recently ordered a 2 meter charging cable (specific 6A 30W).  What I got was two 1 meter cables which does nothing for me.  The seller apparently has gone out of business and cannot be contacted. Lazada wants me to take pictures, get packaging and pack it up  for a pick up. Way too much work to make it worth my while.

    outdated religious attitudes

Unless you are referring to the minority Muslim community or the even smaller Christian community, that statement is incorrect. The 95% Buddhist community is not really a religion, having no God, and tolerates sex workers and believe they can still reach enlightenment.  Cheating people in bars would be a different matter.

Had the same problem with Aquarium Fish treatment from Amazon.

UPS wanted the same items from me.

I told them where to go and the item is still in customs.

Contacted Amazon who have issued me a refund.

Still waiting for that to turn up in the bank.

Exactly, I had the same issue with UPS and DHL.  It was three items, one of which was not even addressed to me.  I lived in CM and they wanted me to go to BKK or mail them my passport.  Both companies were impossible to deal with.  Their English was horrible.  I even escalated to UPS management and got no satisfaction.  The two items that were actually for me were like $10 each so I had no problem just abandoning them.  I did get Amazon to refund the money.

However, that was during the time when it was actually possible to phone Amazon.  I have a US number through Google Voice but the only way to contact Amazon now is by chat or ever worse, AI chat.

Interesting that I ordered over a hundred items from China and there was never a customs issue.

Speed 3 has been demolished. Have you tried the Saumpaa resort? Been to a few events there, in the past. Coming from town, Its before the x-roads with the ring road, on your left/opposite a building/DIY shop.

Are you sure you spelled it correctly, I can't find anything on Google?

  9. Anyone know of any dance nightclubs mostly for Thais in Surin that are open?  The two places that I was aware of was Tawan Daeng and Speed 3 Music Hall which I think is closed.  I am trying to find a place to have a birthday party with dancing.
