Family Mart near us suddenly closed. They had no local customers whatever because of the seriously rude/abusive and unhelpful staff. Only customers were Sth. Asians staying at next door hotel. To these customers they were even more abusive.

You don't know that to be fact. Just more of your attempts to stir people up and frighten them for no valid specific reason.

Sure, I used the same Centrelink office a couple of days later to get a CRN (Centrelink Reference number) and to apply for the OAP. The staff I had contact with were all good listeners, quite knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and polite and keen to ensure all my questions had been clearly answered, and very small waiting time. I can also share that quite a few times I called the direct 'Older Australians Line'. Always answered quickly, good listeners, very focused. Twice (different calls) the officer said politely 'Your question is a little beyond my knowledge, can you please wait just 1 or 2 minutes so I can speak to my supervisor and get the correct answer?' I responed YES. Within 1 or 2 minutes the lady back on the call with a complete answer and checking that the answer was fully aligned to my original question and did i have any further questions. No complaints whatever.

In late 2019 I returned to OZ after nearly 2 decade out of country. I had lost My Medicare card and all Medicare records. I called Medicare and asked them if I was still eligible for a Medicare care, and to say I had lost my old card. A couple of quick questions and a confirmation I was eligible. Lady then she asked my addresthen gave me the address of the nearest Centrelink office and the bus numbers to get there, just 10 minutes away from my rented apartment. At Centrelink they asked me a few questions to try to help them search for my old Medicare number. They couldn't find my old number. They then did an online request for a new number. Two minutes later a new Medicare number. The Centrelink officer quickly completed a template letter, with my new number, which I could use immediately anywhere in Australia. She also mentioned 'your new plastic card should arrive at home within 14 days'. It came in about 5 days. I did use the letter the day after issue at a big hospital in Sydney. No questions asked, no hesitation to accept / use the letter.

Sure, I've heard similar things before. Not all Thais think exactly like this. I recall an incident where a murder was commiiited at an average suburban house in Phya Thai. The monks were consulted whether anybody should ever live there again. Head monk said: There would be no ghosts or evil spirits etc., if the house was closed for 6 months then all beds and bedding removed and burned. Then no reason why another family could not buy the house and live there happily. A Thai family did buy the house, put a spirit house in the front yard and had a quick chanting /white thread ceremony. They bought new beds/bedding and the room where the murder was committed was turned into a Buddha room.

But will he keep within some well structured obvious boundaries? Seems to me they need to stop and quickly make some decisions what the next objective is (in terms of using online technology) and aim/take action to achieve that picture quickly. Right now they are making too many changes and causing confusion and creating a picture of Centrelink lacking credibility...

Just remembered more detail. The case was a very senior ruthless army general who had a wife and children and several minor wives and had lived publicly full time with the final minor wife for 2 decades or more. The children (adults at the time of the generals death) barely knew their birth mother and saw her as an an unpleasant woman. They had grown to be very attached to the minor wife. Upon his death a will was found which had been written several decades earlier before any children were born and the will bequeathed everything to the original wife who hadn't had any contact whatever with the general or the children for decades, including no contct with the children from when they were toddlers. The children together with the minor wife approached the court asking to be recognized as recipients of the generals rather large amount of land and buildings and cash. They won.

The cases which, over the years appeared in the Thai medi (in full details) were very extreme cases. I agree the wishes of the deceased should be respected. What's also possible is for the siblings who did inherit and also thought ignoring one specific sibling was unfair, could all contribute to a fund (after the intial distribution of the assets) for the 'ignored' child.

The quote you mention is outrageously expensive for a basic will, perhaps that fee includes: - preparing, signatures and registration of a power of attorney and - also maybe includes a living will?

Yes it has happened in Thaiand and become public. In the couple of cases I recall there were very extreme circumstances which pushed the judge to amend the will. And in at least one of the cases all of the family members strongly backed that there was no valid reason why the sibling who was ignored by the mother should not receive the same benefit as all the other 3 or 4 siblings.

My many work experiences in Phils., put me off. By company policy mostly stayed in contracted '5' star hotel in Makati, overall very poor service, tips expected for saying 'hello', always seemed to be laundry problems, food in the hotel poor quality and seemed to be problematic. Wait forever at lobby counter to check-in and more. Mistakes with cars ordered through the concierge. My own office in Manila poorly run, female manager less than pleasant and abusive to staff and in one incident she abused several Snr. Japanese directors of the company (all spoke good English). She was asked to organize a big van to take me and the Japanese directors and 4 Japanese snr petroleum process engineers to a processing site 1.5 hrs from Manila. She ordered a van way too small then pushed for the Japanese enginers to sit on the floor. I pulled her aside and told her shut up and listen and reorganize the whole plan and be ready to depart in 2 hrs. She claimed it was not possible. I called the GM of the hotel and asked could he organize a bigger van within 2 hrs and with a quality careful driver. He confirmed. The van came to the company office 1.5 hrs laterwith a man from the hotel lobby to travel with us at no extra charge to ensure we were happy. Good trip, careful driver. I charged the hotel bill to the travel costs of the Phils. office much to madams annoyance. Within next 6 mnths she was sacked, mostly for her abuse of company staff and customers.
