  1. ... and perhaps it wouldn't have happened if historically there was much more respect for the Palestinian people (I don't mean hamas).
  2. Strange that trump hasn't declared wood houses not allowed.
  3. QUOTE: "... (do not take too much pleasure or time doing this),... If he enjoys it good for him. and can do 20 times a day if so inclined.
  4. Just your very ignorant opinion. You ever heard of PTSD? Many war veteran soldiers have PTSD for life.
  5. Yes, I recall watching the proceedings on TV news when the paymaster 'bought' the very large piece of gov't land that his then wife wanted for her. The paymaster was all big smiles. The several very senior ministry officers present all looked very concerned. It seemed to me they were all thinking this is totally illegal, because by serious Thai laws politicians are totally banned from buying government owned land and property. In reality all countries have such laws to block politicians from buying the country. Very understandable.
  6. Does this clan have any values or ethics?
  7. ...and can involve commercial agents / customs staff playing many games. I imported a small amount of furniture and many boxes of my teaching / subject textbooks. I had found documents which gave import duty rates. but when I went to the airport (with my commercial agent they showed me bound booklets quoting rates which, in every case, were 3 times the rates on the documents I had found. And a bit naughty but i stole one of the bound Thailand Customs Rates books. The unI i was working for instructed one of their admin staff to check the rates, she discovered (as I had) the rates books were fake and the rates were 3 times the official rates. The uni admin lady challenged the customs staff and I was then given a new customs duty bill one third of the original bill. Un lady challenged again threatening to contact the prime ministers office. New bill then reduced by 50% and quite reasonable. But later the uni lady discovered that I should not have paid any import tax. We didn't challenge any more.
  8. quote: My provincial TRD (CM) confirmed verbally with my District TRD that Govt pensions, and in the case of aussies receiving the aged pension, that they are not assessable Very interesting for Aussies living in CM (me).
  9. I wonder if any charges were levied at all.
  10. But please note, the 1506 staff will give you good information about the policies of the SSO but they don't take action, that must be done by the local SSO office in your location.
  11. Contacting the SSO 1506 hotline. There's an English language option. If that doesn't come up it just means that there's no English speakers on this duty at that time. Don't give up try again later or the next day. Worth it to keep trying because the English speaking staff are very helpful and very polite. I suspect many / all the English speaking Thai staff are the SSO lawyers.
  12. Excellent question. A similar situation; the pension fund (Centrelink or whoever) send the fuds direct the Thai bank. questions have been asked numerous times re both scenarios, yet to see a clear specific authentic answer.
  13. But there's other possible deductions / reductions on the total taxable income. In some cases health insurance costs / medical expenses can be claimed and reduce the total taxable income. Also, in some circumstances school fees can also be claimed for own children and in some circumstances for grandchildren.
  14. There's been more reports / statement about general aspects of this subject but no real answer on the social security / old age pension aspects.
  15. Just one point, Expats are NOT the backbone of the Thai economy. Yes some families get some financial support from expat husbands etc., but they are NOT the backbone of the economy. Many millions of Thais are in paid employment and they support their families.
  16. Not surprising since Hat Yai is also very popular for Malaysians for girls.
  17. That should cover about 10% of the costs of the paymasters stay in their luxury suite.
  18. There's another item that still needs clarification 'income'. Previous answers seemed to suggest that (for example) Oz old age pensions transferred automatically to Thai bank accounts are not classified as 'income'. But we still wait and see.
  19. Your deliberately twisting my comment.
  20. Nice for you but each to his own / personal choice. I never had pleasant / enjoyable times with any of my 5 cousins, all male. They all went to very expensive schools and reminded me often. All were arrogant and lacking in basic common sense. They had never been taught right and wrong.. acceptable behavior and not acceptable behavior (by their dads or mums). They were just too old for compulsory national service. Soon after I finally returned from Vn there was a whole family gathering for the uni graduation of a cousin. I went to the party, I got invited into the bedroom of one of my cousins. As soon as I walked through the door he fired a rifle and hit a target on the wall quite close to me. everybody laughed. The cousin who fired the rifle called his dad into the room and told his dad about firing the rifle / hit a target very close to me. His dad (my uncle) grabbed my hair and arm and said "not so brave now soldier boy". I was shocked and upset, I quickly found my dad, explained what had happened and dad immediately took me home with no discussion with his brother (my uncle) or the uni boy. Dad spent the rest of the day chatting about life with me, making sure he was listening to my comments. The next day uncle called my dad and accused him of being rude at his son's graduation. And insisted that I explain why I had told my dad. I shared with dad that rifle fire and a round landing so close to me really and the loud rifle fire sound shook me up. (Later I was diagnosed with severe PTSD). Dad told his bother about this. His brother responded with "what total bull<deleted>" and laughed at dad every time he saw dad for years. Dad and I and mum deliberately ignored them for the rest of our lives. A question: why would/should we try to make any effort to gain pleasant relationship with them? 25 years later I got a call from my cousin and he apologized for the rifle shot in the bedroom. I said 'thanks' and hung up.
  21. Just wondering? It is possible they need the not small fee, so they forget their past statements, past comments indicating their values and ethics, for the cash. Who knows. Trump has done the same thing hundreds of times, the cash wins out.
