You will certainly need a re-entry permit before leaving to keep your PR valid.

If normal flights are not available when your return you  would need to contact the Thai embassy in the country your are in to do an application to enter the country.

Can I please add; if your current PR Exit/re-entry stamp needs renewal soon, please note that if you cannot get back to Thailand before the stamp expiry date the Thai government has already issued an order that in the COVID situation PR holders have an additional 12 months to renew their Exit/re-entry stamp.

But it must be reissued quickly when you do get back to Thailand.

If you want, please PM to me and I'll share a copy of the government order Thai and English.

    Good luck.

    1. Thai Nationals had to pay normal flight cost on the repatriation flights so I don't think they would be happy if foreigners were offered reduce cost flights

Good point. I recall that on the regular live update on facebook from the Aust. Ambassador in Bkk regarding repat flights for Aust. citizens from Bkk to several locations in Australia, he mentioned these are charter flights and significantly more expensive than scheduled flights because there are no returning passengers.

  3. I just read a report on another site saying that the Thai government is quite surprised at the low numbers of foreigners who have registered to return; around 2,000 foreigners married to Thai nationals and small numbers in other categories.

I wonder if this relates to the costs of the 'alternative quarantine hotels' for foreigners, around 40,000Baht for 14 days and up. Plus in some cases costs of Covid 19 tests during the quarantine plus tests to gain documents to fly, Transport to and from the quarantine hotel, laundry etc.

Also costs of airfares (one way only) on repatriation flights is mostly above/well above normal commercial scheduled flights. Plus I noticed a comment that the fares on many repat flights doesn't include check-in luggage, all extra cost. Plus ground transport costs to get to the departure airport

I could be wrong but I wonder if these costs are a deal breaker for some foreigners, meaning that they just can't afford the current repat costs and must wait until quarantine days/venues relaxes, perhaps some will be eventually be allowed to quarantine at home but with monitoring, etc., and overall costs reduce significantly.

This post is NOT in response to any other specific posts in this thread. And it's not about Chinese tourists. is not what this thread is aimed at.

Your thoughts about repat return costs? Please share.

Are you asking for my opinion? I can't see how would my opinion matter...

My reply was simply to point out to another poster that the 2000 wasn't a limit put by the government, but actually the number of people who applied for permission

Sorry if I have caused confusion or annoyance. My post/question is just an open question not aimed at you or anybody specific. And I would appreciate your broad/open response to my question.

    Sorry if I upset you.

  5. I wonder how many schools have a good supply of acceptable hand sanitiser in stock and easily available all day to the Kids.

My granddaughters school gets the world record for never getting ready / following solid rules on many things.

I can just see my Thai son taking his 3 kids to school on 1 July and asking 'where's the hand sanitizer?

With some probability the answer will be 'no budget', 'director says not necessary'. Leading to 'well where's the soap'? Answer ' no budget', 'director says not necessary'.

All leading to my son and a few other parents quickly doing a shop up and all delivered quickly to the school.

    Hi Micky Mouse,

FYI > IO does ONLY accept IO-approved health-insurance policies from TGIA associated thai insurers ( https://longstay.tgia.org/home/companiesoa ).

Content-wise most of these thai IO-approved policies are worthless, so - if you go that road - you might as well opt for the cheapest one, which is the LMG Insurance Plan 1 with a 200K deductible (annual premium of 6.000 THB to 11.400 THB in the age bracket of 51 till 75), with the additional advantage that no medical exam is required when subscribing to that LMG-policy.

When you subscribe to that policy, you will receive the required Health-Insurance certificate by mail within 2-3 days (after approval and payment of the annual premium).

No need for including an 'overlap period' when subscribing, so - in order not to lose any days from the 1-year permission to stay - have the policy start on the day after your current permission to stay expires.  Also make sure that your insurance contact person at LMG confirms that he has uploaded your policy details on the TGIA insurer database, as that database will be checked by IO to verify whether your Health-Insurance Certificate matches with your policy details in the TGIA database.

Alternatively - once the borders are open again - you could also do a border-run and return VisaExempt, and then apply at your local IO for the 90-day Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement and in the last 30 days of that 90-day Visa apply for a 1-year extension.  The requirements/conditions when applying for the 1-year extension of that Non Imm O - retirement Visa are identical as for the Non Imm O-A retirement extension, but do NOT require the thai IO-approved health-insurance scam.

    >> I did PM you a comprehensive guideline document outlining all options/details to apply for that Non Imm O Visa for reason of retirement (also addressing the option of the 1-year MultipleEntry Non Imm O retirement Visa, that can be obtained at the thai consulate in Savannakhet).

So I guess if this policy covers COVID 19 tests (if ordered by a doctor) and COVID treatment and has a minimum overall cover of US$1,000,000, then it could be used by foreigners trying to return to LOS, e.g. Work Permit holders and others? Thanks. And do you know if the company also covers folks 75 yo to 80 yo? Thanks.

Seems to have a track record of failure, as commerce minister, his escape plan and his attempted suicide. Clearly he is qualified as a potential PM.

IMHO it's very likely his actual police track record is very scaly, lacking in fairness and balance and not according to the appropriate laws, and very likely banyan and his hangers on would be the main beneficiaries. Which also brings up, how come guys like him don't get monitored and punished quickly  (if guilty) by their immediate supervisors.

But of course this is the LOS...

Every hotel room has a phone.......... Most people have a cell phone.  Call reception or 1669....if you can.  Personal Emergency buttons hung on a necklace can be got in Oz,  my mum had one for the last several years of her life. Would imagine same here.

Yes there is technology which can help, my Thai son bought a clear plastic pouch with a string which hangs around my neck, and it hangs on a peg within the shower cubicle, phone is never across the room etc., it's always well charged and I check frequently that I haven't mistakenly turned it off or cancelled the ring tone or similar.

Due in court today and it's already revealed that if he doesn't get release there's a plan to kidnap a prison officers wife as a bargaining tool to get his release.

Finish all the cases against him (and his lo-life gang) as fast as possible, put him in solitary forever and all of his gang on permanent hard labour and throw away the keys.

Then focus investigation (the money trail etc,) how this creep ever got a ministerial position and charge those involved and long-term jail sentences. Then investigate how he ever got into the police and got a senior rank and punish those involved with long-term jail sentences.

Seems to me until something like the above happens we will continue to see many scaly incapable immoral ruthless folks in the police and in all institutions.

Yeah I know, this is LOS...

Good question, there should be doctors on site IMHO. Also enough is being paid for this so it should be more then just a hotel for quarantine with nothing more.

On the other hand in your case you might need to pay extra as you would be a special case (no insult meant). I mean if this really is something that could realistically happen with a high degree of chance.

Maybe some kind of panic button or keeping the phone close.

Thanks, actually I have tried to discuss these points with the Thai Health ministry (administers the quarantine activity). Total waste of time, and not a language issue this department has plenty of advanced English speakers but of course speaking directly to anybody close to policy making etc., not available.

I would consider it, but I would want much more detail. I would also put a limit on it. For example, you will help until she finishes this school, but if she wants to go to university then you will review her progress before you say yes or no to helping with uni fees.

Also pay the school fees directly.

Many schools & universities in LOS had serious problems with students paying and getting a receipt from the immediate admin. staff then later the student get's a request from the actual accounting dept., for the whole school 'please pay your fees, your overdue.

Proven again and again the local admin gave a receipt but they pocketed the money.

One uni I'm aware of had very serious problems with this, a few years back they started a new system:

    1. Every admin. dept had to give a numbered and fully itemized bill to every students just before the start of registration for each semester, and the bill had to have the name and number of a bank account with Krung Thai bank.

    2. Student or family member had to pay at the bank /bank transfer direct to this account quoting the student number.  Within a few minutes of payment the student gets an e.mail confirming receipt of the fees. Students told to never delete this e.mail. Students have to take a copy of the proof of payment e.mail to the uni book room to pick up books etc., for next course. Uni forbidden to ask students for extra money for books etc.

    3. Nobody at the uni / no hangers on allowed to approach students asking them to pay more or offering them 'extras', all totally banned.

    4. Students told to immediately write their names and student number on their new books before they leave the book room, security guard at door has to see the names / students, on all books. If they just write their nick name 'Doi' or whatever security guard won't accept, tells them to write full name / students number, every book. If they forget books in the classroom and maid hands the books to admin, the admin staff are totally banned from asking the students to pay a recovery fee.

The new system is not complicated, it worked and quickly made a big positive change to attitudes of staff.
