ridiculous... what next sue Bush and Blair? how about sue Thatcher's estate for the Poll Tax debacle? Let's sue Cameron for costs in Afghanistan?

it is incredulous that public service figures could be sued for decisions they make in good faith it would lead to know one ever deciding anything and no one standing for election!!!

hey WAIT is that the 'cunning plan'? no one ever stands for election here???

that might be a stroke of 'Junta Genius'

Rubbish, because what your saying is that there should never be accountability.

Your bias is so big that it trips you up.

accountability is by the electorate my junta loving friend

Accountability should be pushed, demanded by whoever / whatever, including the populace and the checks and balances in place on behalf of the populace.

Your bias is so big that it trips you up.

She will be a thorn in the junta's side if she goes and a bigger one if she stays.

Allowing the impeachment followed by a civil case was a very foolish move.

The junta have allowed her and her brother to dominate the news, again, no idea!

So your suggesting that this whole matter should have put into the too hard cupboard and the key thrown away?

    No further comment needed.

Members of the Thai government can be sued? Let me dream for a moment....lawsuits for the crappy roads, inadequate electrical service, non-enforceable traffic laws...all right, I'm shutting off before someone wakes me up.

IMHO your point is valid but is a crappy road in the same league as 600Billion Baht disappeared?

Ultimately one would hope that the time comes (and soon) where builders of crappy roads etc., are also quickly sued and severely punished and including any government / local officials who are found to be involved.

But there is a case to say get the big fish first to start to set some new and better principles, also hopefully getting people overall to be more moral and ethical, etc.

New charter to contain built-in mechanisms to prevent parliamentary dictatorship

It IS already (the political brainwashing system, which must not be named ), sponsored by our dear PM and former general....

It would be interesting if all these men now setting out the new charter, were made to declare their political leanings. See how many supported the Pue Thai and how many support the Democrats . I wonder ?

How is your 'wonder' about pt and the dems connected to developing a system which aims to prevent parliamentary dictatorships?

(And by the way, such a mechanism is a good idea - think dictatorship / think back over the last few years.)

Or you another member of the team whose job description is to turn everything to a negative?

This is the same political party who refused, threatened, and coerced any opposition from speaking the truths about them or from completing a job that went against them. I think they dont have room to talk about this to anyone.... They used it all burning coffins and blocking the justices and threatening judges and other very very bad things. They would not know what reconciliation was unless it freed them from the responsibility of facing criminal charges against them for their actions.

funny... just like the yellow thugs taking the airport? blocking elections? AHF (Amazing Hypocritical Farangs) who come from democracies yet support a junta and decry anyone who tried to find a pathway to peace and reconciliation

you think it can be achieved by controlling the majority of Thai's who vote again and again and again for what THEY want? and what THEY want is not what AHF's want

you think ignoring the majority, in the long run, will bring 'happiness' to the people? dream on

And you try to confuse by saying 'what they want' when in fact nobody really listened to what they want, they were told in no uncertain terms what they wanted in the red 'democracy' schools etc.

But the paymasters machine did construct a package which looks very attractive to the poor farmers but on deeper analysis focused more on building the wealth of the paymaster / his family and his cronies and at the same time strengthening the pillars needed to rape the country and to develop a dictatorship.

'Ignoring the majority'. Nobody would disagree that there needs to be strong long-term policies which provide fast strong sustained gains in quality of life for a large % of the population but gains through their own activity and endeavors not through handouts which have zero long-term benefits.

And binjalin who might like to remember that the paymaster and his red cronies, in their 12 or so years in power, have never once (repeat never once) mentioned, discussed, proposed any such long-term policies.

The man obviously still does wield a huge amount of power and influence, he has obscene amounts of ill gotten gains stashed away in foreign bank accounts, and he has the ear of many of his previous cohorts and accomplices.

Write him off at your peril as he is clever, resourceful and thoroughly without conscience, as he has done in the past he will sacrifice anyone and everyone to regain that which he thought was rightfully his, proof enough of his delusional and narcissistic nature.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is perfectly correct in his assertion that he cannot speak to this man, his advice is sound and TS should return forthwith to Thailand and clear his name, if his protestations and claims of innocence are correct it should be easy for him to do.

It may take years for his influence to wain but wain it will, while we should still be wary of him with every week/month that passes his rambling opinions will become more and more irrelevant to the people who mistakenly voted for him. He has had his day with only political oblivion waiting for him, do not underestimate how unacceptably bitter that pill will be to swallow for this tainted character.

While the process to remove this corrupt family from the political landscape may not be universally popular, it was the only option available with Thailand as a sovereign nation running out of time, something had to be done and it was!

Agree. But IMHO this man /family will leave no stone unturned to try to claw their way back to having Power and to return to their building of a dictatorship (and all the time falsely proclaiming that they are building / protecting democracy, all underpinned by providing access to the trough for the scaly incapable immoral cronies and 'footsoldiers', and without conscience taking advantage of power and access to convince the unaware that they are the saviors.

In the last 24 hours reconciliation / amnesty was mentioned by one of the senior guys in the reform teams, instantly the paymaster says he's willing to talk about reconciliation / amnesty, always the criminal opportunist and never once in all these years has be reflected on his illegal immoral actions and wrongdoings. Beware.

Returning to the topic of reconciliation

Unfortunately we do not live in a world that is simply black and white, right or wrong, the issues about reconciliation surround a balancing act , should it simply be ignored at all costs regardless of its outcome and consequences or is there a wider benefit to simply making compromises and letting bygones be.

    Absolutely.

Still somehow the bygones seem to be for a large part on one side, the side where a criminal fugitive has no problem creating chaos to get what he wants. A criminal who even 'democratically' skyped in into cabinet meetings of his sister to order his cabinet to do what he wanted.

So, let bygones be, mostly advocated by those who have the most to win from it.

    Rubi

If I viewed it about winning and losing, which I dont, then you would have to say that the criminal has won, living in exile , still wealthy , no signs of being extradited , perception to the outside world of being politically persecuted, and still influential in Thai politics.

However we are where we are and in order to move forward somethings just have to be let go no matter how painful , to keep past resentment just holds you back

"If I viewed it about winning and losing, which I dont, then you would have to say that the criminal has won..." You really think that's convincing?

Yes he's rich, but rich doesn't mean happy. He can't come home, he's tried some immoral / unethical attempts to get a whitewash, indicating he wants to come home which have all failed.

He has a criminal conviction which is yet to be served out, and he has some approx. 15 serious cases of corruption yet to be heard.

    'He's a winner'. I think not.

You need to try better. Or do some more research and get a more accurate analysis and understanding of his situation.

So rest assured folks that when you go to a certain self proclaimed international standard medical facility if your needs are spoken about in English you may well come out of that facility in a more serious condition than when you went in,you may even come out as a cadaver you know. !!!

    Medical tourism hubw00t.gif alt=w00t.gif>

English not spoken here, no TOEIC needed, one dreads to think what other languages are also somewhat lacking,

Can you sign up as a doctor but get training after you start?

What would make matters extremely awkward for the Government would be her wandering into the American embassy .

The US is making lots of commenst but would they really want the situation where she walked into their embaasy and put them on the spot to give her asylum?

If they did immediately bring her into the embassy and keep her in the embassy (grant her asylum) then they are basically saying her life is in danger and they are blatantly making a statement that she is innocent.

If they didn't bring her in and didn't give her asylum they they are saying she doesn't gualify for asylum, in other words she is not in danger, etc.

Either way a complex scenario and IMHO the US embassy would not really want either situation.

But will the US embassy continue to make it's holier than thou statements? Of course.

We keep avoiding the big elephant in the room when we talk about political reform. It's simply not sufficient for the existing political enemies to leave the scene to get out of this vicious cycle. The military is also part of the problem and need a paradigm change to their behavior in this modern times. The establishment handy men in the courts and agencies would also need to be depart voluntarily so there will be no more suspicion or sceptism from all sides. If you want everyone to understand democracy, leave democracy alone without truncation from coups and the people will grow to trust the system and confident that they have the penultimate decision and mandate on who choosing the best leaders. Look around in our closest neighbors like Indonesia and Phillipines on how their democracy have been strengthened without repeated coups. Add Singapore and Malaysia that never had any coups and how far they have progressed economically and democratically.

Many folks would strongly challenge your claims that both Malaysia and Singapore have made big advances in the building of democracy and for different reasons.

Look what just happened in Malaysia to Anwar. Now that's a real case of political interference with the justice systems.

The students are gradually ramping up the dissent. The parade last week, now this.

The junta will be having sleepless nights over what's coming next and how to deal with it!

Im not sure if its a joke or that you really believe it. The army is firmly in power and the only ones scared are the red shirts. Not a peep from them they are either scared or they did not get paid. Probably both.

A few students scaring the army. Real funny... if is was a big protest or nation wide maybe but just this is nothing.

the army can't even control a few taxi drivers in Samui

You really think the army should be seeing taxis on Samui as their highest priority?

You remind me of a lady in our village who tells the neighbors everyday she's very disappointed that the general has not come to fix her sagging fence.

You have anything more constructive to offer on the big picture overriding problems?

At the end of the day rubl it was still a democratically elected government unlike what Thailand has in place today.

    No it was not.

The democratically elected Govt was dissolved and what was left was 26 caretaker cabinet ministers all of whom had been appointed by a convicted criminal on the run.

You obviously have no knowledge of the democratic process, or are just being deliberately obstinate, or you would not make a comment like this.

In any democratic process, there has to be a mechanism for transitioning from one government to the next during an election. The caretaker government at the time was fully within the scope of the democratic process in place at the time, and would have been soon followed by the next elected government if not for the illegal election blocking by the PDRC.

Now, there is no democratic process in place, and the one that will soon be in place will be a highly bastardized versus of democracy.

And how does your attempt at diverting the discussion fit to the disussion and the points of the other posters?

    It doesn't.

His above claim was that 700 bn was stolen through corruption. 99% of the 700bn is still sitting going mouldy in the warehouse.

The 700bn wasnt stolen, it was in vast majority lost on paper so far in the system. It has gone into the economy.

How's that, I and I guess thousands of others Thai and non-Thai. would love to hear the details.

  16. <script type='text/javascript'>window.mod_pagespeed_start = Number(new Date());</script>

and along the side the best professionals are making comments on how much better it would have been if they had been allowed to continue their best efforts against like before the coup.

For a moment Thaksin was happy to have his amnesty, Yingluck to have her's too and then some pesky anti-government protesters came along. Utterly undemocratic, disturbing the peace of Amply Rich people. There should be laws against that.

Before the coup the Thai people had the option of changing governments through elections. Politicians who campaigned on credible reform promises had a chance of getting elected. The anti-democracy protesters and the military put an end to that.

"Before the coup the Thai people had the option of changing governments through elections" A little less than truthful.

  17. "KMITL has not obtained any documents indicating this and KMITL has never had such a policy [allowing documents to be signed retroactively]," he said."

That's one side of the story. What about the bank's policy on processing huge withdrawals when the withdrawal slips are not signed?

Reminds me of a recent case I'm aware of where a Thai customer went into a high profile Thai bank and wanted to open another savings account. Bank lady gives the customer an application form and says 'sign here'. Customer says he/she wants the document fully completed before signing anything. Bank lady says 'can't do it like that, bank policy I have to complete all the details (incl. customer name etc.) after the bank closes'.

Customer calls the manager who just keeps saying mai pben rai, it's not a problem we want to give you quick service. Customer also notes that the box to indicate issue of an ATM card is already ticked. Customer says she doesn't want an ATM card for this account, bank lady says, 'it's now compulsory'. Bank manager says, 'never mind, more convenient for you'. Bank lady now says, 'but I can't change it, and only allowed to use one application form per customer'.

    Customer goes to another bank.

With respect I suggest never sign withdrawal or deposit or transfer or payment slips in the bank until the clerk has processed it through the printer and all details are printed.

Uh oh. Watch it now. LINE Japan will now be forced on unencrypt their message system or be banned in Thailand. alt=blink.png>

Banning LINE or facebook would be massively damaging to them..

Thais may not care about much but take away thier chat or social media account.. Then theres revolution.

If LINE is banned here......there would almost certainly be a civil war......if Facebook was banned....there definately would be civil war.......& 90% of the population would go into severe withdrawal!)

Has there been any mention of banning Line?
