At least he is doing something ! Next to corruption this is probably the most serious problem facing Thailand

What exactly is he doing? He is not competent to oversee changes to an educational system. He may have the finest intentions, but he hasn't the slightest clue when it comes to pedagogy. This is like a chap who fancies himself a handyman deciding he will now take on the service of a B787.

So you think this guy is a one man band? What he is doing is leading a reform council with very many different departments surrounding himself with experts in their fields. A personal friend of mine who is a university chancellor and professor is one of several on the committee to reform education.Everyone knows the education here is terrible and the general is determined to fix it . It may take a huge effort but give the guy credit for putting the wheels of change on the road.

But if your friend is a university chancellor he is almost certainly part of the problem.Prayuth's comments on the sector are absurd and ignorant and not to be taken seriously. The two key priorities are to provide quality education for all the country's children not just the suburban middle classes - and secondly to encourage critical thinking at all levels. The latter is of course problematic for those who hate democracy.

    More of your twists.

But; but....he has so many jobs already. I mean; has he personally written the new soap shows he said he would do ? Has he stamped out corruption like he said he would do ? (Lol). Has he brought ''Happiness to the people '' like he said he would do ? Has he started building his Train Set yet ?

My word; he is such an expert in all subjects !

    More deliberately misleading rubbish.

He never said he would wipe out corruption in a few months.

Here's a question for you: ' Could you or could you suggest someone who could actually wipe out corruption in Thailand in a few months?

Serious question, I look forward to your esteemed advice.

Thailand is going backwards in time, entrenching the Elite.

i would have thought better of people in this Forum.

Perhaps you are happy with your freedoms curtailed but a lot of us are not.....put it to a vote.

Your wrong, do some deeper longer-term research.

If the government had done its most basic duty, and provided these poverty stricken people an education when they were children, they wouldn't have to move anybody.

This is all they know how to do.

In many cases very true, but not in all cases, there are plenty of vendors who have become very efficient at buying stocks etc., etc., and operate many stalls and drive their top of the range Hondas etc to Paragon.

My Thai sons uni buddy comes from a family who had taken all of this to the extreme, they operate multiple food stalls at night time food markets across several areas of Bangkok. One example around the Petchaburi Soi 5 area, both sides of the main road, they have some 14 stalls.

Their entire operation is based on a value chain model, serious processes to cut down waste and other costs, best prices to buy raw materials etc., including raw food vendors delivering large quantities to a central kitchen free, rock bottom wages, below the legal minimum wage, lots of stolen electricity, in several cases they pick up other vendors for a fee (those that don't compete with their offerings) and take them to the markets, etc. This family have been well above middle class income for many years.

Thailand doesn't ASK for US handouts - I believe it to be a paltry amount not worth worrying about anyway which should be refused the next time it is offered (unless it is given sincerely and with no strings attached).

If Prayut hadn't have intervened when he did then what would the 'red' death toll be and in what state would Thailand be in now?

He has created stability, happiness amongst the people, is getting things done across the board successfully, stamping down on corruption and other crimes committed by wrongdoers plus attacking a whole range of problems that were created by the previous abject excuse of a government.

Think about it, that shouldn't be hard, even for you.

Prayut has "created happiness amongst the people"....LOL. Something is very wrong when a country derives its happiness from an Army General.

"Is getting things done across the board" ...LOL. Govt budget disbursement rate has plummeted (only 15% of the fiscal year investment budget has been disbursed...), the 21st petroleum concession is getting no where, the 4G auction is getting pushed back to 2016, Education is going to back to the stone ages...

"stamping down on corruption"...LOL. What are your examples?

He is the most popular PM of Thailand there has ever been according to most/all opinion polls - there is nothing wrong BTW when happiness comes from an army general that has prevented an ongoing conflict from going on that was responsible for countless murders and deaths and was leading to the bankruptcy of Thailand. You should be thankful that he had the good sense and decency to intervene and put things right!!

If Thaksin had his way nearly 100% of the budget money would be in the pockets of his cronies by now. What Prayut is doing is getting the authorities to justify the spending to avoid waste and ensure that it is distributed wisely to where it is most needed and will benefit the Nation so he is doing it carefully.

It is not the idea to spend the budget as fast as you can as that is irresponsible to the extreme!!!

The petroleum concession and 4G auctions are rightly being done properly as there is a massive amount of money at stake (not the kind of thing that Yingluck worried about, admittedly) - I believe that Prayut wanted the process speeded up but there were protestations from certain organisations and committees and he listened to what they were saying (yes, LISTENED) and noted their suggestions and objections about certain aspects of the process and delayed proceedings based on those until a better and fairer way is worked out.

I don't agree with all they are planning on education but as far as I am aware they are simply plans at the moment and he can hardly blamed for taking education back to the stone ages as he hasn't really changed much, if anything yet on that front!!

How can you be brazen enough to say that he is not stamplng down on corruption. Ask (Thaksin's) police force if he is doing anything about it, or the last corruption ravaged government and their (chosen) corrupt political officers that conspired with them to commit said corruption!!! I think that they would beg to differ on your closing statement.

I'll add, ask around amongst a diverse group of Thais and I guarantee you many will say 'take your time dear general, don't rush, take enough time to get the changes and reforms solidly locked into place'.

Why is democracy ALWAYS assumed to be the BEST form of government....?

Germany 1933 - a democracy that allowed Hitler to come to power. Millions died.

USA 2003 - a democracy that allowed George W. Bush to start a war over false claims. Hundreds of thousands died.

Further, why has the Washington Post not given the same attention / similar comments in regard to both Malaysia and Singapore?

Well, I'm married to my Thai lady (married in Europe) and we live in Esaan since

a couple of years. My wife's sister couldn't take care of her kid and we couldn't

adopt her with me involved. You need some kind of form from your Embassy and

there is a cut-off age (I think something like 46yo) and I'm older...

The Amphur helped my wife to have the kid registered on my wife's name. Both the

father & mother signed documents and my wife was checked by a psychiater

and after some months the papers came through. She is legally my wife's child now.

She (the kid) lives with us, speaks great English (better than me), is smart en

very loveable. Soon we are going to apply for a passport for her and hopefully there

will not be too many problems...

So, although we are married (but not in Thailand) and my wife does not carry my

last name it seems possible to 'adopt' a child. The Amphur kindly instructed my wife

to let me stay home; it only would complicate matters,

    Regards,

    Nongsung

It seems there are rules (and there should be strict rules on this subject to protect children), but it also seems that exceptions are possible.

i'm well aware of a case where a farang man and his Thai wife applied to adopt a Thai man 18 years old, the 18 year old was not related but had lived with the farang and Thai wife since he was quite small. They applied to adopt when the lad was 18 because at that point both of the boys birth parents had passed away. Previously the birth parents were unsure what they should do and kept delaying any decision on this matter. Other family relatives (aunts / uncles) were contacted by the ministry during the deliberations about the farang and wife adopting, all the other relatives gave 'approval'.

Both the farang and his Thai wife had professional employment in Thailand (both doctors of medicine).

During the application process the Thai wife suddenly passed away.

The authorities did some further deliberations (the ministry of Interior also then came into the discussions - I don't know why) then all concerned quickly gave approval for the farang to go ahead and adopt. The adoption was completed and the family name of the 18 yr old Thai man was changed to the farang family name (during one of the interviews the Thai lad asked the officers if it was possible to change his family name to his new fathers family name and this was approved without further question).

If he is going to take personal charge of overseeing education reforms he has got his priorities right for education is one of the most important, if not the most important thing that needs urgent attention.

Not going to be an easy job though what with entrenched ministry, administration and teaching all having to be changed.

    And his academic credentials are?

The good general didn't say he will personally design all thew changes, in fact he didn't say anything even remotely like that.

    Repeated:

"So you think this guy is a one man band? What he is doing is leading a reform council with very many different departments surrounding himself with experts in their fields. A personal friend of mine who is a university chancellor and professor is one of several on the committee to reform education.Everyone knows the education here is terrible and the general is determined to fix it . It may take a huge effort but give the guy credit for putting the wheels of change on the road."

In business many CEOs realize that their company needs to change. They are personally not full experts at the areas that need change, they use / listen to those experts but play the role of change champion and use their power positional base to push hard / demand change as outlined by the experts.

Although the allegation seems plausible, is there any evidence to support the allegation? We do know that people are quick to make unfounded accusations , and sometimes flights are held for a legitimate reason, such as a bomb threat or other security related matter. The event is not necessarily announced to the public even when it occurs.

Ideally, TG,and the government ministry involved will provide a public statement. It would help clarify the matter. Until then, this remains a serious occurrence and further damages the military administration's reputation.

Thailand seems to be a nation lurching about in chaos.

You start by saying".....We do know that people are quick to make unfounded accusations.....". Then you finish with an unfounded accusation.

    Back to retirement.

But can he use it when he goes back to Australia, I doubt it will be recognised and only good for local use in Thailand.

'I doubt...'. Do you say that with any knowledge or associated experience?

I doubt that you are all that well acquainted with anything about Thailand.

After reading this, I'm reconsidering my decision of getting married to my wife.

    What did you say?

    They are already married?

    That can be fixed.

Don't think they can resist my hansumness.....as long as they don't look into my pocket alt=whistling.gif>

Well don't rush to think most of these so called power women, whether here in Asia or in any country (not specifically meaning those mentioned above) are sweet and balanced and compromising, etc.

Depends on the configuration of the cabin, and the number of exits. The standard is 1 FA to 50 seats (loaded or MT), NOT PAX.. BUT some Countries go up to 1 FA per 36 seats. Then there is the flight crew to be included.

Obviously, there was crew returning Home Pax. That is very very common, when allowable hours expire, or flights are cancelled. etc etc

Considering Thai wages are pretty low, I am sure, the wages bill on that flight is hardly a concern, as most people on here bitch about the high prices Thai charge. Thai, like Singapore, built it's business on service... that service isn't so great now, but is still miles ahead of other airlines I have used over the years.

It's no wonder they are losing money considering a flight with 227 people requires 22 Thai crew members. WOW.

Thai airborne staff, all of them, are paid very well and in line with Singapore Airlines, Cathay, etc. They made this a policy many years ago because if they were paid less then it would be just too embarrassing for the Thai staff to meet officially or casually with staff from S'pore airlines, etc.

    Thailands loss

Im sure other reputable universities abroad will be only too happy to have Somsak until he can return to teaching in Thailand

Not fact, just your attempt to spin the situation. Do some research re Thammasat, quite a few of the lecturers in political science and in law have opinions that are way off rational thinking.

Is this the police officer with a 350 million baht share holding in a newspaper on a policeman's salary?

I think I'll believe the special branch officer as he is going to look stupid if he is lying and I assume he has good evidence before making allegations against the top police officer.

36 posts, your intent is obvious. Try harder and please don't deliberately not include the already well broadcast details of where his money came from.

I say again, your less than inclusive balanced comment and intent is obvious.

Somehow the current gang here remind me of the numerous deliberate untruths and twists and spins sprouted with fire and brimstone and numerous times on the red rally stages.

If the evidence is conclusive then I don't think anyone will be unhappy about it.

I doubt that people will refrain from defamation, but who knows.

There's going to be a trial. I expect the 2 Burmese men accused of being the killers to be convicted. I expect the evidence to be conclusive. Finally, I expect some people to be unhappy about it.

Unlike you not many here believe the evidence. Far to many inconsistencies.

There is a man who has claimed he was beaten and forced to confess to being a rapist by the RTP. He is innocent.

The latest of many. Can you not understand why people have doubt ?

Another point, I have difficulty to see how there could be a fair trial when all and sundry were allowed to trample all over the crime scene, it took weeks to get any forensic police / forensic experts to the scene, the police changed the investigators several times, the prosecutors seem to be relying to some extent on a cigarette butt, given that all and sundry were allowed to trample the crime scene for many days, should there be doubt whether the cigarette butt was there immediately after the murders were committed or did the cig. butt 'arrive' some time later, perhaps cast aside by a later sightseer? And the local head man was allowed to basically supervise the police investigations and at the same time he threatened anybody who tried to mention his son. And there seems to be unanswered questions in regard to the so called 'evidence' that the son was in Bangkok.

  17. CNX process re-entry permits at international departures. Require passport/visa size photo and boarding pass.

BKK [suvanabhumi] have an excellent service [with 200BT fee] which includes photo taken and form filling.

I asume DMK [Don Muang] have similar service but I have no detail.

I guess means both single and multiple re-entry stamps.
