Another example; years back it was common knowledge that all employees / new employees of TG had famous family names. Others need not apply. And well known that absenteeism / late for work was par for the course and accepted, after all they are from famous families and it would not be appropriate to ask 'why are you late?' In that era (and perhaps even now) the airline had a rotating team of cabin crew on 24 hr standby ready to go to a waiting aircraft.

Perhaps by law they need special facial recognition or similar photos? Just asking for a friend. -
Perhaps they were snapped just changing their clothes. Just wondering if the complaints came from Americans who are well known prudes in terms of 'speedo ' costumes whereas same swim suits are normal / worn by a big % o beach / pool goers in Italy and other med. countries and in Sth America and Australia for decades.

Just remembered, some newer models on the market: -Solar powered with collection panel big enough / strong enough to accumulate power for normal 24 hr usage. One model I noticed (maybe others) comes with 2 'spotlights' to illuminate the gate / carport area. Lights switch on when remote engaged / switch off 2 minutes after gate is closed. And can be switched to grid power if needed. -Remote controls can be used for any model / brand. -Lower overall prices.

But who raised the price? -The manufacturer in Oz? -The exporter (not always the manufacturer)? -The importer inside LOS? -The retailer inside LOS?

Tax on Pensions
scorecard replied to rogerpattaya's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I've had a Thai personal tax number for over 25 years. My Accountant has handled it for me (she was my student for her MBA degree). For many years my Thai income put me just over the thresh hold, my accountant submitted my personal tax return (on line), quickly got a response of how much tax I had to pay (always a small amount. Tax paid on line and receipt received immediately on line. More recently my income went way down, acct., submitted my return and got a response that I owed no tax and going forward if my income was under the thresh hold no need to submit and further returns. Never heard from RD ever again. -
Move Forward MP denies involvement in extortion attempt

Agree, ongoing there will be many attempts to discredit the MFP party and individual members and many attempts will be less that valid, based on less than honest points. Many will be dishonest attempts to get K. Pita sidelined even jailed. -

Trump's Quest for Presidential Immunity: A Dangerous Fantasy

The bottom line is very simple, nobody regardless of how you define anything, assess anything, try any case etc., is above the law, nobody. Also, the US makes no secret that most / all justices on the supreme court are political appointments and there is an open expectation that each supreme court judge will vote in accordance with the beliefs of the party which put him/her on the supreme court. Therefore there must be a factor which ultimately puts a block in the system. Again, nobody is above the law, nobody. -
Around 1990 I was in my employers BKK office and moved to a regional position which required me to be in several offices every week. Hence regular day trips / 2 days trips etc., from Bangkok to : S'pore, HK, KL, Shanghai, Beijing, Djakarta and return. Had to use TG because of company policy from HQ in Europe (must use the national airline of the country where the staff member is located). I quickly realised that TG attitudes, service and behaviours were less than expected of a full fare international airline. And especially since we had a contract to use TG flights for all staff (total about 15). My Thai colleagues complained every week about poor TG service, failure to get any answers, failure to get even basic check-in, cabin service, arrival service. I also discovered that trying to complain was a waste of time: - Sorry we don't have a complaints department, we don't need that. - Yes my aunt is the complains manager but not here now. Please ask her to call back - cannot she has a personal policy she doesn't return calls. What time will she be in her office - about 12:00 noon because she has to take the children to school and have breakfast with them then she goes to the market to buy fresh food for her maid to make dinner. Travelling business class evening flight HK to Bkk- 2 incidents: No business class cabin crew available on boarding - they were having a birthday party in the galley and holding the curtains shut. Dinner served very quickly immediately on departure, and then a trolley placed at the front of the bus class cabin with drinks, mixers, glasses, ice and an announcement; 'TG has a new policy, after dinner finished in bus. class all drinks are self service'. Real reason - a birthday party in the galley and no response whatever to passengers pressing the overhead service button. Worst of all - travelling business class Bkk to Jakarta with my 18 yr old Thai son (I paid for my son's ticket, most expensive class of ticket to match my ticket - I needed to have full flexibility to change days / flights / dep. times etc., because of client requests. After dinner all served and everything packed away my Thai son asked the hostess for a glass of Coca Cola - the response, hostie just kept walking down the aisle and yelled back at my son 'Go and ask in economy class'. A lot more negative detail but not now. Two days later I was at a snr. m'ment meeting At TG in Bkk. I mentioned the Coca Cola incident to a director responsible for 'customer experience'. He laughed and said 'don't worry I'm sure it will be OK next time' and changed the subject.

"Out of interest, how large is your wifes extended family". Good question. And where is your wife in the birth order? Is she the eldest, the youngest etc. Why? My Thai daughter is law (DIL) has two elder sisters and two elder brothers. My DIL is reminded often by all of them that she must respect/follow whatever she is instructed to do by elder siblings. E.g. One of her elder brothers turned up at the almost completed house (5 bed, 4.5 bath) my son and his wife (my DIL) were building in Chiang Mai. DILs elder brother started to try to tell my son: - Who should sleep in each of the bedrooms. - That two of the bathrooms should be changed into Buddha rooms. - That the fairly big space assigned to be the indoors western style kitchen was a waste of space and should be changed to a bedroom. In fact elder brother give instructions on these changes to the building supervisor. My son quickly also spoke to the development company and made it plain that their contracted builder should never take any instruction from any other party even if it was another family member. Son called a family meeting requesting his wifes two elder sisters and two elder brothers attend. Son raised hell and warned them all off and indicating he would call the police (son realised of course that the police would be less than interested unless there was a substantial payment, this never happened). The two elder sisters and two elder brothers were insulted, son ignored their attitude and told them they were not allowed to visit the build site. Still today one loud older sister does visit but calls in advance and tries to tell her younger sister (my son's wife) and my son how to bring up their children. She is totally ignored.

Don't ignore your wife's concerns. There's a good chance locals at the market will say nasty things to her, and possibly put pressure on her to give them handouts. Plus, in your 'journey' so far have you have requests / demands from her siblings for handouts? Keep in mind that the 'mansion' you propose strongly reinforces the belief that all farang are extremely rich with no limits. The pressure they might put on your wife could be quite intimidating for her. And quite possible she won't tell you about this for fear you will get nasty.

My bank receives transfers in every 4 weeks labelled as old age pension payments coming from a foreign gov't department dedicated to pension payments. They can in a few seconds search and build a picture of such transfers coming in every 4 weeks for over 15 years. My Thai bank has never once asked one question re these funds.

and further... heard many times of bank managers telling the husband / the couple "don't worry I will ensure the surviving party gets access" (with or without death certificate). Further, it's been mentioned several times before that banking regulations (each Thai bank's regulations) place no emphasis whatever on death certificates, not mentioned in banks regulations.
