Re a safe, suggest you get one that's well (and discretely) attached to the floor or the wall. The less people involved in installing and the less people know it exists is important. I've read many times of folks who buy a safe with push buttons, like in hotel rooms, take it home, put all docs, valuables etc., in the safe and think 'all done'. But the reality is that someone could, if determined walk away with the safe. Not a good plan. Must be secured to floor or wall.

Fixing Thai education is not just a matter of money
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I know what I'm talking about and I don't appreciate your attempts at put down, in fact you're grandstanding is insulting. Yes Vietnam has many excellent universities and most/all have English language programs both bachelor and masters levels. Many are branches of highly recognised unis from many countries in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. These programs are always full. I've been an invited member of masters thesis committees in several VN unis, the thesis submissions all written by VN students in English. Some (as always) are nowhere near what is expected for many reasons, many are excellent and the English language quality quite good. Further, don't instruct me what I should watch. Bye. -

And I don't agree with anything in your post. Nothing. I've worked with my SIngapore colleagues and staff from SIngapore companies and Singapore government many times over many years. Always impressed with their insight, their intelligence, their ability to instantly analyse, their ability to express themselves well and more. And in recent years I've taught executive masters degree programs at a highly credible uni in Vietnam in English (campus in both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi). All students Vietnamese. They have impressed me and the other western professors in every course. -

Agree, they need to seriously change the foundations and methods (pedagogy) to ensure the end result is comprehensively educated kids capable of and well experienced in discussion, in analysis and in presenting arguments etc. Vietnam has done just that by copying the whole education system / methods etc., employed in singapore. Yes it would be a big long-term undertaking, but it must be done. And that includes very different training for teachers. It can be done. -
And "Move on" means clean up the judicial mess and get all offenders through proper fair judicial process and start their punishments if found guilty.

Prison officials say Thaksin eligible for parole
scorecard replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Why is the Corrections Department making the statement "He can take up political role." There is a government agency officially responsible for making appropriate statements according to a situation but it's certainly not the Corrections Department. -
You mentioned Parkinsons. You might need to check if the airline you prefer (or any airline) have policies which require that passengers with certain ailments/conditions must travel with a caregiver.

A further point, are there small children in your house? For older people at first this maybe quite fun but 24/7 maybe more than they could cope with. But every case is different and you are the only person who knows the answer. Maybe if there's small children this is another reason to try a 2 month holiday to start the process and discover the positives and negatives. Good luck.

Report give data about locations and levels of the dust count but zero information about how/what the air force will do. -

Can i keep my family in home country from knowing if i die?
scorecard replied to Pouatchee's topic in General Topics
Of course, there has to be a death certificate. But that's a totally completely different subject to family in another country being informed / not being informed of the death. -

It may well be that by international diplomatic protocols the embassy must be informed. However it's possible (case by case) that the embassy would then be the block in terms of respecting the wishes of the deceased that family not be informed. Seems to me that ultimately if the deceased has decided that he/she does not want family / others to be be informed then the wishes of the deceased should be respected. It's actually mentioned as a distinct clear paragraph in my will that nobody (except gov't agencies who need to stop benefits etc.) should be informed of my death. Separately his is also recorded with my embassy. Also mentioned (in my will) that my Thai adult son can inform local bodies of my death if he feels it's needed / appropriate. and I trust him to do that if needed. I know he will take this item very seriously, he has strong feelings about protecting the privacy of the family. -

That's not necessarily true. I'm aware of one embassy that will totally respect this request however they will (by law) send an internal notice to all government agencies who might need to cancel benefits etc. A twist, I'm aware of an American (quite unpleasant nasty man) who gave the US embassy in Bkk a written witnessed instruct to not inform anybody. The embassy respected his wish but did inform SS etc. A friend of the deceased (friend loves to interfere in everything) decided this was not right. He found on-line phone books for the state where he believed the deceased had come from and did find one person listed with the same but quite unusual family name. The Pattaya interferer called the number and the brother of the deceased answered. The interferer explained the death. The brother in the US said 'I have not recognized this man (the deceased) for 30+ years, he caused untold serious family relationship problems, money problems and misery for the family in the US and we agreed jointly, as a family, to disown him. We put notices in newspapers and in official state gazettes etc., saying that we had disowned him and we were not responsible for his debts etc. I have no further comment and please do not call me again, and he hung up'. -
Thai Government Debates Alcohol Advertising, Sales Hours
scorecard replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Seems to me the discussion should be on other very different factors aimed at reducing* / controlling* alcohol consumption and no parliamentary time wasted on logos on soda water bottles, except to just pass a law, quickly, to ban all alcohol advertising including brand names and logos. *In aware of one country where there's permanent breathalyser stations in several direction close to areas with pub, etc. In another state the licensee is responsible to ensure nobody over a certain limit (breathalyser tests conducted by the pub licensee) is allowed to drive away and the licensee is responsible to confiscate car keys and provide organized transport to get drunk customers home. This actually works well and got big endorsement from the public because drink driving accidents and deaths/injuries went way down. -

And my family, myself and others have bought from the Lazada site at least 100 times. Never ever had one issue or problem.

Most of the comment in this thread is from foreigners who bring large amounts of funds from their original country. Many are perhaps quite wealthy and therefore have little hesitation (perhaps for many past years) to bring in quite large amount of cash. What still seems to be lacking in fact is Thai personal tax treatment on state pensions which are transferred to the entitled recipient every 4 weeks. to be specific I'm referring to the Australian Old Age Pension (OAP). There's quite a few Ozzies living in LOS whose' only income is the OAP. Further the Australian laws on this (which govern Centrelink) appear to say that the OAP is not subject to personal tax. But that's of course meaning in Australia and in cases where the OAP recipient has no other income. But some other members on this thread say that "...OAP is not subject to personal tax." is not true" Confusion... For these folks it still seems to unclear how Thailand will tax these funds, and I've yet to read a specific conclusive comment on how Thai personal taxes will be affected by the existing double tax agreement Thailand and Australia.
