  1. Too simplistic , it would also be necessary to regulate their behavior , . to ensure their actions did not void their insurance. Its not going to happen is it ? Making insurance compulsory would only result in higher insurance premiums for everybody when the insurance companies have to pay out mega bucks for cases similar this. Better to let some people "self insure" with gofundme, there is less small print, there's often generous payouts, and no knock on price increases for the rest of us that's a win-win is it not.? (or more accurately win-win-win)
  2. pretty much , I guess many see it as a (un)calculated risk, I mean for every story like this there are millions who have an uneventful holiday, It never happens to "me " does it. ? Then again if you know in your mind you will be behaving like this guy , there would be no point in buying any insurance if that insurance would be voided by ones own behaviour That would be stupid. Nearly as stupid as riding a motorcycle when drunk
  3. There is no mention of any foreigners , The accused are 116 immigration officers, They will be Thais , so there will be no need to send any of them home, except perhaps to maybe change their uniforms if required, for an "inactive" post or to pack their bags ready for a transfer Corruption is indeed a way of life here, many seem unable to understand that. A shining example is the Elite Visa scheme pay some money, get a visa. This case / investigation in no way indicates that a serious or indeed any sort of an attempt is being made to put an end to corruption. Possibly somebody has not been handing over the correct percentage of the takings, or there has been some kind of internal change regarding which "dynasty" is running that side of things and a bit of a clearout was needed Either way with no mention of "Agents" (except by a few members ) and no reports here of anybody being questioned in relation to this case and furthermore no reports of immigration offices refusing to deal with agents one could be forgiven for wondering why anybody is even listening to a few sad people who seek to scaremonger those who they think are in someway less worthy than themselves
  4. I have no problem with people quoting me, I'm at a loss to understand why somebody would attribute one of their own quotes to me
  5. Absolute rubbish, british people nowadays have very little faith in the national disgrace that the NHS has become.
  6. A post from a retired teacher if ever there was one, but best of luck with the lifesaving crusade, if only people would read your posts eh ?
  7. You, like all the other doom merchants actually have no idea where this is going, therefore Its just wishful thinking on your part isn't it. What is it with you people ? Why are you trying to scare others ? Nothing better to do?
  8. All the wailing and self-righteous preaching on this thread regarding the use of Agents, and yet agents are not even mentioned in the OP. I really do not understand the scare mongers on here, relishing in trying to scare their fellow expats, with their own theories as to where this is case is going. Some people actually seem to "get off" on that. How sad ! Why do some people who make the decision to live in Thailand, then decide to wage their pathetic one man crusades against corruption, Do you really think you will change things ? lol
  9. Really ? care to give a recent example of this happening ? Are you actually suggesting that anybody using an agent should be put in front of a firing squad! That is taking things to a whole new level and no doubt that would make sanctimonious types like you very happy. If you think that removing the option for others to use agents will make anything easier for you when seeking an extension then you are deluded. Not only that, but you like many others in this thread seem to have difficulties integrating into the Thai style of life. Any foreigner wishing grief on others due to Visa issues is beyond the pale in my opinion, akin to a "grass" in prison.
  10. I would forget super markets and the likes of home pro Take a look around any large town, particularly down the side streets, you should find some shops that actually specialise in curtains. They will have samples of the various fabrics in different colours and will make them any size you want . I'm not familiar with Ubon but there's plenty round Surin and Khonkaen and I doubt Ubon is any different. Often, in typical Thai style, you may find several of these shops almost next door to each other, Just ask around or get the missis to. We had some made years ago, they weren't cheap at around 1000 baht / pair but they were really well made with creases like knife edges that are still sharp today and small chains in the hem to weight them down. If you were intending to use them during the day to keep the sun out it might be worth considering asking if they could add an additional UV resistant layer to protect from sun damage which can destroy some fabrics very quickly
  11. Aw come on now, surely you have been around long enough to know that there is no subject more guaranteed to bring out spiteful nastiness in the usual suspects on here, than other peoples' visa status, and, particularly, the use of agents to obtain them. This case has been ongoing for some time, and to my knowledge there have been no reports on here of anybody being summoned to immigration and questioned about their visas origins. That can only be positive. I don't use agents, but I have no issues with those that do, and I would be very surprised if it isn't business as usual already, People on here wishing grief on others due to any visa connected matters should be ashamed of themselves, and those with a chip on their shoulder about a bit of bribery and corruption should think about living elsewhere, and taking their western "morals " with them .
  12. I really would not like to be in the position where I needed to put that guarantee to the test,
  13. A somewhat pointless and meaningless article, Anybody with large amounts of spare money in the bank is suffering big losses due to inflation, I am having serious difficulty believing that 1023 savings accounts contain 500 million baht, who on earth would keep that amount of money in a savings account ? Is there an amount that would be guaranteed should the bank collapse,? In the UK its around £80k can't see it being much more than 1 million baht Now that the daughter has left home my mrs recently started sorting out and chucking out all her boxes of Junk. she found about a dozen bank books from different accounts all with next to nothing in them, I imagine that to be a common scenario. Many Thais will buy gold rather than stash money away in the bank
  14. Not sure where you come from, but I can assure you, that where I lived in the early 1990's "The Sun" itself was not even a household name. at least not in the sense that you mean, and it is still despised, and regarded as unfit to be used as toilet paper to this day That's probably why Jordan was never very popular in Liverpool, that and her annoying Essex accent,
  15. Indeed it is, that's what they get paid for, and that's why they have an interest in peoples immigration status. You however........
  16. If she did bring him it wouldn't cramp her style very much. The kid would be dealt with by "others" most of the time, but would be brought out for carefully choreographed camera work to be used in the no-doubt forth comming reality tv documentary. Now that she's a bit past her sell by date she needs a new image and appearing to be the "angelic caring mother of a disabled kid" will probably do just fine for now I'm not sure how she would fare on a night out in Bangkok, Speaking personally I wouldn't be tempted away from the local offerings and I doubt any other western guys would either. The best she could hope for would be to catch the eye of a drunk Thai or a Japanese Businessman, neither of whom would be able to "touch the sides"
  17. I was thinking of him then another name sprung to mind, Will young? Then I started doubting that it was even Jordan as there was another one just like her but slightly lesser known called Jodie Marsh. I suppose I could google it but to be honest I can't be bothered
  18. She was bad news, towards the end of her "fame" she was involved in a relationship with an australian guy called Peter Andre he was a pretty boy "pop star" A one hit wonder who had enjoyed minor success in the UK in the 90's A fly on the wall documentary was soon launched on TV to boost their flagging careers. I was never a fan of Peter Andre's soppy pop music but he did come across as a genuine guy , albeit a bit naive, who was prepared to try and make a go of things with her. but as you might expect she treated him like <deleted> and he eventually <deleted> off, back down under, I think Now I may be wrong but I think there was also some controversy a little more recently, There was a talent show on Uk TV X factor or Britain's got talent or something like that, the first series was won by some young effeminate looking guy . Can't remember his name (what a surprise) but I'm 90% sure there was some sort of story in the sunday papers about how this young lad lost his virginity to her at or just after a showbiz party ,and then had a breakdown when she dumped him, can anybody remember that?
  19. Maybe the Kardashians aren't dim but there must be some real halfwits involved, somewhere, in the process that has made them billionaires
  20. Its expensive enough if you haven't got 4000 baht, considering she's facing bankruptcy that is a strong possibility. For those unfamiliar with the subject of the OP She is the epitome of the British version of "trailer trash" the very personification of council estate scum, However she does actually deserve some credit, her "business model" was years ahead of its time. She was a relatively unknown soft porn "model" calling herself "Jordan" who underwent a ridiculous amount of plastic surgery on her breasts ( 16 operations according to the OP) in an attempt to be famous, not sure of the exact statistics but she went from something like a normal 34 c cup to something like a 48 gg and back again , several times !!. This did gain her some fame but she wasn't satisfied, Her stroke of genius whether intentional or not, was to " accidently" allow a video of herself having sex find its way onto the internet. Amid the outrage she was taken on board by the british porn industry and became a household name. There was a cheap perfume released in her name and a range of tacky "lingerie" And she was the subject of a few fly on the wall documentaries, I think she made quite a lot of money. The same business model is still working well for the Kardashian clan. However it all went predictably wrong in the usual ways, Toxic relationships , Trips to Rehab , and no doubt some serious financial mismanagement, combined with a basic lack of any real substance in the product itself (her) all synched together and she was over and forgotten as quickly as her initial rise to fame, She still manages to get her face in the papers now and again, normally when she's up on drink / drug driving charges, or appearing at bankruptcy hearings, and of course , the now rare occasions , when she gets her tits out
  21. " Which is a very serious thing " ???????????? You sound like another retired teacher I'll never understand why people like you get their panties in such a bunch about other peoples' immigration status. Unless you work for the immigration department it really isn't something to concern yourself about at all, is it ? Or are you indulging in a rather perverse form of virtue signalling?
  22. I get the feeling cannabis "normalisation" is and will be permanently on thin ice for the foreseeable future. Although that is completely unjustified . It's been what ? 9 months now ? and the predicted breakdown of society just hasn't happened . All the doom-mongering so called experts have been proven wrong Surely somebody somewhere can see sense? I mean the facts speak for themselves A country was plunged into unregulated cannabis availability and usage , no draconian restrictions have been implemented re driving for example and it all seems to be working very well. If this was a social experiment it would be hailed as a total success (apart from that guy who cut his own cock off lol)
