  1. Thanks for saving my sanity, I distinctly remember getting of the plane at Don Muang and the first thing I did was look at the rates on the exchange booths, I could not believe my eyes, I think it was around 80b to the pound double what I had been getting the previous year Happy days indeed I had twice as much to spend as I had the previous year. Still managed to get rid of it all though lol. Mostly on whores and alcohol at least I didn't waste it
  2. Thanks for the confirmation, I have just been accused of trolling by one "enlightened" member (presumably another "expert") I seem to be attracting a lot of them recently
  3. Do you even know what trolling means ? it appears you do not. I did not specify how long that exchange rate lasted for , but it was certainly more than a few days. some of the bars were even offering 100b / to the pound as an unofficial exchange rate and 50b to the dollar for a limited period. where you even here then ? The average exchange rate is actually irrelevant in the context of my post which you seem unable to understand, but being the patient guy that I am I will try again just for you . Read the title of this thread and then refer to my post again. The baht was not "surging" in 1998 it was seriously in decline due to the Asian financial crisis Maybe in your head a surging currency means a currency reducing in value, to me It means completely the opposite,
  4. Has bitcoin suddenly become non fluctuating ? It was worth $71000 back in march and was around $46000 just a couple of weeks ago, currently around $62000 certainly appears to be plenty of scope to be negatively "affected"
  5. Strangely I remember things a little differently . I was getting 90+ baht to the pound in 1998 but before that it was around 40 Am I "confused" or was I dreaming?
  6. No he's not , It was never his intention to keep any of his promises, And had he told the truth about what his plans were nobody would have voted for him
  7. I came in 1995 for exactly the same reason, I think back in those days everybody came for the same reason, and , people were a bit less pretentious. Thailand was a lot more fun back then and nobody even mentioned the words "family resort" it was sin city simple as that and I loved it. Sadly the world is full of puritans and kill joys, they don't like to see people having fun , some have tried their best to have it all stopped and the "family resort " was their intended aim, but they never quite managed to achieve their intentions so what's left is a bit of a sad hybrid , there maybe a few water parks and other stuff for families to do but there is still a lot of mongering going on, but its far from ideal and a poor imitation of what it used to be. It puts me in mind of "soft porn" narrow minded people don't like to watch it and neither do those who like hard core porn I haven't been there (properly) for a long time must be 20+ years but I did spend a couple of days there with the missis a couple of years before the covid scam, I was not very impressed, the bar girls all seemed to have got a bit fatter and more ugly, and the place just did not have the same vibe it used to have , I doubt I will ever go there again, and I feel a bit sorry for those who never really experienced it back in its heyday
  8. To become an electrician, plumber, carpenter or mechanic following the traditional route one would expect to serve an apprenticeship of around 4 years including studying at a technical college maybe one day per week to obtain a formal recognised qualification. Yet it appears anybody with no experience whatsoever can simply slip into the position of prime minister . easy as that. Its not just in Thailand either, we are currently no better off in the UK and have not been so for as long as I can remember. Currently we have a lawyer sat in the hot seat , before him it was some sort of an investment banker. I don't really want to look any further back in time. What is it that makes these people feel qualified to fill such a position? or indeed makes those that put them there feel the same way? I know she's " square faces" sister and he's pulling the strings and making all the decisions etc but it just seems a bit weird to me that totally unqualified people with little to no experience are not only allowed to hold such positions but that they appear to be accepted and taken seriously on the world stage by other politicians many of whom have been at it for years. Personally I wouldn't trust any of them to be capable of completing the most mundane of tasks even making a decent cup of tea. No wonder the world is in such a mess On the other hand I might just have a go myself, can't see that I, or anybody else for that matter would mess up any worse than the current lot
  9. You are joking right ? immigrants are treated as vip's in the uk it native brits who have become second class citizens in their own country.
  10. As far as I was aware Corbyn was put there as a joke, many true blue tories signed up as labour party members just to vote him in as leader, knowing full well that it would render the Labour party unelectable. They were not wrong either
  11. The first thing that struck me on my initial visit to Pattaya in the early 90's was the pristine condition of the drainage pies and the area adjacent to them . I am horrified that such an outstanding feature has now been disrespectfully soiled,
  12. I would imagine he has "people" to do that kind of stuff for him, probably the same people who collect from and return him safely to the day room
  13. well this timely clarification of the legalities should, at least , enable most of the A. N killjoys to sleep easier tonight.
  14. That's the only good thing he ever did
  15. He's a national treasure, just like Diane Abbot in the UK
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if his parliamentary seat actually doubled as a commode , that would explain why he wants it. No need to wake him up to change his pampers
  17. Many on here, for some reason seem to strongly object "in principal" to a military based government. Yet it is the non military "elected" governments that have been responsible for the increasingly onerous immigration regulations that we have to abide by.. As expats that should be our only concern, its all about taking care of oneself . that's how it works in Thailand , the woke political ideologies that some westerners carry with them is nothing more than a liability , worthless emotional baggage, that needs to be discarded. "Expats supporting democracy in Thailand" is just as ridiculous as " Gays supporting Gaza" and nothing more than vacuous virtue signalling by people who really have no idea what is best for themselves or indeed Thailand The confused emoji this post has received proves my point
  18. This reminds me of a bunch of geriatric rock stars reforming in the twilight years of their lives an attempt to raise a bit of cash whilst desperately attempting to appear relevant once more, despite most of their fan base having passed away. and little interest from the anybody else. I doubt he or any of his prospective political pals are short of cash , He should direct his efforts to the golf course, take up beekeeping, or perhaps occupy himself by posting rubbish on this forum like any other self respecting geriatric whinger
  19. There are plenty of very poor people, and not so poor people around the world who also think democracy is overrated. What does the word actually mean in real terms ? Seems to me it just means that one has the opportunity to vote once every 4 years . Not really much use in real terms, when , as in Thailand the results of such voting can simply be disregarded Or in the UK for example where one would cast ones democratic vote based on the declared manifestos of the various parties' manifestos that are quickly disregarded by which ever party is successful. Who then proceed to do whatever they want for their term in power. There is no democracy anywhere in my opinion, merely the illusion of it and it is certainly nothing to do with increasing the wealth of the poor , that would be the equally misrepresented illusion of socialism People are eventually getting wise to this now , hence the typically very low voter turn out in the UK which enables the likes of Starmer to claim a landslide victory despite only around 30% of the population actually voting This disinterest means the term democracy , in practice , is pretty much meaningless
  20. Certainly looks like a jovial easy-going sort of a bloke, I wouldn't pay to much attention to all these malicious rumours about him.
  21. Because its a fact that as one ages ones mental and physical capacity is reduced. Classing geriatrics as unfit for certain occupations or professions is not bigotry , its common sense. Just take a look at Mr Prawit, The guy can hardly walk, seems to communicate in grunts ( when he is not asleep at his post) , and is obviously unfit for the position he holds, all due to his age. Nothing bigoted about that it is just common sense. There are no 70 year olds representing their countries in the Olympics , Would that be due to bigotry or is it just common sense ?
  22. So great concern for the potentially tarnished image of Pattaya, but little concern for a very vulnerable , homeless woman who obviously has serious issues. Apparently some passers by offered her money , but what did the "local reporters" do other than stand and stare whilst taking photos of her on their mobile phones? What image do the authorities think Pattaya has globally ? and more importantly, how have they actually arrived at that conclusion?
  23. She was dosed up with a veritable smorgasbord of drugs courtesy of the hospital (and big pharma) yet cannabis gets the blame again Later in the article it states that a hot shower will provide relief but no mention of the hospital following that suggestion ! This was not a news report , just the usual propaganda
  24. Any articles from the daily mail should be banned from this forum , along with those who provide links to that rubbish as they are basically just trolling
